What's your top 5 one pockets players list currently

Funny and true!

where would Gentile fit in on the list?

And purely out of respect, I'm inclined to agree with JoeyA on Efren until The South Dakota kid mows him down for a good pot.

I guess I have a soft spot fer the older fellas. 'Specially the real lethal ones.

best,
brian kc

In complete agreement.

re Respect-in the Billy Incardona post match interview after Shane's win-I noted a couple of things-

-in responding to the outcome-Shane spoke of getting the rolls. True. Many would not go there.

-when asked how he has progressed so rapidly-Shane responded that he has played Efren 1P several times in the Phillipines in recent years for substantial amounts. He said that he has learned much about creativity playing Efren. That struck me as respectful, and giving credit where it should be given.

-That statement from Shane about 'learning' from Efren brought a little smile to Billy Incardona's face. IIRC on BI's 1P tape, he speaks of learning something from all the great 1P players that he has played. I think Billy goes on to say that what he learned from Efren-was not to play him.

Of American players-Corey consistently can be very creative. Shane is catching up.

Appelton beat Frost 4-0. Not too shabby for a man known largely for his rotation game.

Frost to his credit-discounted the fact that he had two 'impossible' scratches, but despite that-Appelton played strong and deserved to win their match.

A lot of repectful comments from top players-we don't always hear that. Mutual respect among competitors is not seen often enough.

I think there are a several players that are on the bubble of the top 10 and trade spots depending on how the balls are rollin for them.

What, no Parica on this list???

Who cares about the top 5. Top 3 are Efren, Frost, and Shane. And you could make an argument for those 3 to be in any order you choose.

Great question and great responses. And I know these lists can be subjective but I have to very respectively disagree where you have Jeremy Jones. Corey maybe close, but John Schmidt, Danny Harriman nor Sylver Ochoa can't beat him. Just ask any of them. They will tell you. Not today....No way. I also think Joey Gray should be higher up your list.

Just my opinion.

Bring back the Senior Tour...............

Why don't some of these older guys enter the 1 pocket tourney in Vegas, like Varner, Hopkins, Sigel, Rempe, etc.

Hopkins played in the DCC one or two years ago but I don't know how he finished.

your right hungarian

jj is definetly top 5, my top 10 are efren, scott, shane,jj,alex, busti, sylver,js,corey, gabe. js needs 9 to 8 in victorville.

1. SVB
2. Frost
3. Efren
4. Alex
5. Gentile

Other names I considered for the 5 slot:
Ochoa, Corey, Daulton, Joyner, Owen, Gray, Busty

I am not a one pocket wizard but like I said before you put all the players on a tough table where the traditional one pocket game comes into play everything changes. Svb and daz are great shooters and decent one pocket players but can never out move what (IMO) are the best one pocket players. You put all those guys on really tight table (call me crazy) and in a long set those guys cant win. Then the list goes to frost, efren, busty, Alex,.correy, jj, and even put in gentile and ike. The diamonds at these tournaments (derby and us open one pocket) have new cloth with large pockets. IMO its not one pocket but more of fire at your hole and should be called 8 and out. I am not taking anything away from all the new players bc they shoot straight and take advantage of the equipment as they should. I just think one pocket is as much about knowledge (and always has been) as it is skill. Its not that way on the diamond tables with new cloth. For those of you who think I am crazy go dig a ball from a 4" pocket and then the same shot on these tables. When your spotting a ball and giving your opponent ball in the kitchen dont be surprised. :)

If they are all "in stroke" and at their best, I like Shane, Efren, Alex, Busti and Scott. Close behind are Gabe, Darren, Jeremy, Schmidt, Corey, Joey Gray, Chris Gentile and Sylver. The rising star in One Pocket will be Dennis Orcollo. Give him a year and look out!

You really put Jeremy in the second teir?:scratchhead:

My good friend, Rafael Martinez, can play at top speed
with anyone and offered to play Efren for Big Cheese ... IF a
30 second Shot Clock was agreed on by Efren. His backer had
deep pockets, but no response ever came from the Pinoy Camp.

I really wanted that match-up to take place and would have
paid for VIP seating anywhere in the World.
