Arguments have taken center-stage over pool, and AZB has a cavernous rift running through it. Common decency and respect are all but gone. On any given day, members are choosing up sides like they're getting ready for a school-yard brawl. As the du juor antagonists face-off...you can hear the collective chant of 'Fight, fight, fight!' echoing throughout. It's as if our once common love of the game has degraded to a blood-sport.

No longer is it 'okay' to have differing opinions, and to move on. It has become an imperative that there be a triumphant. The reality is, there are no winners in such actions...as the wounds inflicted begin to fester until eventually, the entirety is compromised beyond reversal.

In the past, I have looked to AZB as a respite...where I could share thoughts about the game I love, where I could research and learn new things, where I could find out the latest on the players we revere so, see new products and cues...and to share a smile. It is less of that now than it has ever been...and I feel like I am losing an old friend.

Lisa

I miss Smorgie too!!

Nice post Jam!!

I used to tell my daughter the same thing, that once she spewed those words from her mouth that she couldn't take them back. I wanted her to feel the wrongness of her ways when she spoke without thinking first.

One day, SUPERSTAR, not so very long ago, my daughter and I had words about something dumb, like cleaning up the laundry room and working out in the yard, doing household chorse. We were both angry. She left the room.

About 30 minutes later, she returns to the room, and I can see her in my peripheral vision, but I don't look her way, as I'm still mad. No apologies were exchanged. She just came over to me and kissed me on the cheek and walked away. It was the best kiss I've ever had in my life, and I will never forget it. :p

I think people can express apologies and mean it. It doesn't make their actions or words right, but I can forgive and even forget, though I've gotten more stubborn in my old age. :o

To forgive, or to be forgiven.................. two of the GREATEST things
in life!!! AND daughter's kisses are right up there too!!! :)

From the sidelines you seem to have a need to respond to those that want to argue. I'm sitting here hoping you find a way to let it go, and ignore them..... because your kind soul shines through when you do. And the posts and pictures you share are a treasure to the forum!!

Have a GREAT day.

Are you of the opinion that a "sorry" makes everything better?
Because i am not one of those people.

Just cause someone says that they are sorry, doesn't mean that they didn't say or do something that might have offended someone in the first place.

And one thing is for certain, sorry doesn't make people forget.

You might be genuinely sorry for the tone that your post had, which is fine, but that doesn't mean that you didn't mean it when u said it.

I just find it funny that you start this thread, when you yourself have done the exact same thing that you are discussing.

You can apologize till the end of time and genuinely mean it, but that still doesn't mean you didn't do it.

Well, for one, I don't apologize if I didn't mean it...why even bother, then?

So, let me get this right....how many times have I seen transgressions on this site, and later there is an apology issued...and follow-up posts telling that person that it was a big move to admit they may have been wrong and issued the apology...to the extent that I have seen bad rep removed back to good?!

Now, did I cuss the poster out?...no. Did I call them any names?...no. Did I feel their comment was off the mark?...yes. Could I have worded it differently?...probably.

I just find it interesting that with the 'issue' being addressed...that it was only my comments that were being posted here, and not the full exchange in it's entirety....which tends to make this exchange a bit lop-sided, wouldn't you say? Additionally...the entire thing would have likely taken little notice if you hadn't made it a point to attempt to make it a bigger issue...and still, with the exception of yourself and midlife...little notice was still taken, save for a few peeps who gave me positive rep for that post.

Lisa

Kind of ironic, isn't it......a thread gets posted about how everyone needs to chill out and stop being so argumentative on this forum.....starts out nice and by the end everyone is yelling at each other again.....lol.

Ask some of the pros who used to frequent these boards how friendly this forum is. With that said this is one of the most mellow boards I have ever frequented and you have to take the good with the bad and have a thick skin.

Thanks for the good wishes and kind words. :)

The most comfortable sideline on this forum is to be a lurker, I'm learning. That way, nobody knows you're around and won't drop your name into threads. It's the best of both worlds, I guess. :grin-square:

And you can keep that paranoid, self centered everything revolves around you attitude, cause i don't go out of my way to take any shots at you...that is unless your opinion is completely um, uh...how do i say this...WRONG.
In which case, i will point it out.

later

Wow...and yet, I did not feel compelled to stoop to this level with you. Interesting.

By their very definition, and opinion is just that, an opinion. Opinions are subjective to the validity of the facts. The facts must first be determined to be correct or incorrect, before an opinion can be deemed as right or wrong.

The only problem with not posting your feelings and questions here at AZ is; we, your fellow posters, will not get to understand how and why you feel the way you do! Don't like the flaming going on here. Sometimes though, the flamer accidentally drops a piece of information you might never had known about from any other source. Keep posting. Keep questioning. Keep playing pool and sharing your experiences with this forum! You and the forum are all the richer for it.

Kind of ironic, isn't it......a thread gets posted about how everyone needs to chill out and stop being so argumentative on this forum.....starts out nice and by the end everyone is yelling at each other again.....lol.

You're right...and the minute Superstar posted, I knew it would go that way, sadly. I was baited, and I bit the hook...like a fool. I have been told in the past to stick up for myself more, and I did, and it got all sideways.

Typically, I try to avoid these exchanges...and should have here. It will not hurt my feelings if Mr Wilson opts to remove this thread...kinda hope he does now. I'm off the forums for a while.

I sincerely apologize to everyone for my part in this.

Lisa

Arguments on AZB are a like a sinusoid. It ebbs and flows it's ugly head every now and then.

Then we get threads like this.

The arguments are nothing new - just sometimes we are at the top of the sinusoidal wave and sometimes not.

On the Billiards Digest board there was this guy "Bolo" who was pretty inflammatory and showed no willingness to suffer fools. He was downright mean at times. He also had a lot more knowledge than most of us about pool and cues, and players too - and probably played better than the others there. He obviously could play and built cues on the side.

Basically, I learned a lot from him after a 20 year layoff from the game, so his idiosyncrasies were acceptable to me. In fact, his input and ideas were invaluable and I still use them today. In fact, I wish I knew who he really was and what happened to him.

Lisa, I can read the hurt in your words. Hope to see you when you return. I do enjoy your posts. :)

Oh no it's snot!

Well, for one, I don't apologize if I didn't mean it...why even bother, then?

Honestly, i don't think you should have apologized. You should have just stuck by your opinion.

So, let me get this right....how many times have I seen transgressions on this site, and later there is an apology issued...and follow-up posts telling that person that it was a big move to admit they may have been wrong and issued the apology...to the extent that I have seen bad rep removed back to good?!

Typically, i don't care who is apologizing to whom.
That's whole big move thing is just for all the saps who are into that whole forgiveness thing.
That is not me.
Someone says or does something against someone, doesn't matter if they apologize or not, i remember it.
Personally, an apology to me, means that someone wants to be let off the hook.

Now, did I cuss the poster out?...no. Did I call them any names?...no. Did I feel their comment was off the mark?...yes. Could I have worded it differently?...probably.

No, but...
Typically, people always mean what they say when they say it.
Sure they can change their mind later, but when they are actually saying it, they MEAN IT. Anyone who comes with that line, "i didn't mean it" is FULL of BS. They meant it alright. They just didn't mean for it to SLIP OUT!

Don't care what you say, you wanted to put that newbie in his place.
No, you didn't curse, but that still doesn't mean that the point of your message wasn't received the way you wanted it to be at that moment in time.
My pointing things out to you, were more about you being wrong then it was about you ripping off a newbies head. Although i threw that in there to emphasize the point, that if you are going to go chastise someone, at least get your facts right

Already addressed what apologies mean to me and probably many others.
i.e. nothing.

Lisa

I don't think it's lopsided.
I'm sure that there are many who feel that your apology was genuine. I am not saying that it wasn't.
Just an apology doesn't change what you said or how you meant to say it.
And then people can be left to wonder, if i didn't bring it to your attention, i highly doubt you would have chimed in with any type of apology in the first place.

People are opinionated.
People don't agree.

It's a fact of life.
Get used to it.

Who's facts ! Your facts ! Your source is wrong !
I will cut and paste facts from my source to prove it !
http://mysource.is=better*than/yours
you are still wrong! You will always be wrong !
Therefore , I will attack your personal character !
Send you red rep !
Ruin your iTrader !
and tell mommy (oops , I mean Mr.Wilson)

"Common decency and respect are all but gone. On any given day, members are choosing up sides like they're getting ready for a school-yard brawl. As the du juor antagonists face-off...you can hear the collective chant of 'Fight, fight, fight!' echoing throughout. It's as if our once common love of the country has degraded to a blood-sport.

No longer is it 'okay' to have differing opinions, and to move on. It has become an imperative that there be a triumphant. The reality is, there are no winners in such actions...as the wounds inflicted begin to fester until eventually, the entirety is compromised beyond reversal."

I substituted "game" with "country" and your comments are still, sadly, accurate.
