I see these "Fire Sale" threads in wanted/for sale forum fairly often and when they grow to 3 pages and the op is still bumping it, I wonder, what did it mean when they said "Fire Sale".

Do any of you know?

Any clarification is appreciated. ;)

When everything must go, regardless of price.

Sellers will use that term to gain views. Especially on the AzB marketplace.

Many words tend to lose their 'currency' by blatant misuse.

if there's no smoke, there's no fire.

"Fire Sale" means "I want to sell this fuggin' cue, dammit!!" :p

All funnin' aside, Brian's got a point -- the amount of bumping and jockeying that goes on in that forum is over the top. I don't go there anymore for that reason.

I've yet to see a real fire sale here.

Maybe the few for sale posts that have had instant buys where the buyer said maybe he priced his item too low... But those we're fire sales.

To me, fire sale = 1/3rd or more off current reasonable sellable value. So if I have a cue that should sell for $1000 easily on the secondary market and someone puts it up for $650, I think that would qualify.

Or, said a different way - if you price an item to where any of the dealers will purchase it, chances are it was in that category.

Same issue, different phrase: Monster. I have a monster this or that for sale.... It's really marketing. Someone's monster tascarella is another person's player. The term is silly.

I totally agree with Buzz. I've seen cues here that were labeled " Fire Sale " that were
priced higher than similar cues not labeled that way. I think that the term " Fire
Sale " is pretty much relative. The seller may think he's giving the stuff away, where
everyone else doesn't quite think so. Shoot, I've felt that way before.:embarrassed2:

"Fire Sale" means selling a cue for significantly less than market value as opposed to significantly less than your initial asking price.

It means "open this thread"

It's secondary meaning is "if you're dumb enough to think this is cheaper than normal...call me!"

Brian came pretty close the other day...listed and sold a cue in less than two hours. (pd yet?)

Honest description of warts and all...and 'cheap'....everything but actual 'fire sale' ...similar result.

btw Brian..in the pics the shaft looked like many rings per inch....was it?

Fire Sale

From what I have seen the terms "Fire Sale" " and "Monster" when it comes to cue sales seems to translate to " I overpaid for this cue didn't like it so trying to get someone to overpay me for it "

Yep, Monster player. Hits a Ton. I'm Happy if they can hit just a half ton.

Well, in my small collecting venture, I have actually kept what I consider the Monster Players and thinned the Herd of the ones that we couldn't come to an agreement on.

Meaning, I hold you in my hands and you make balls go in the pockets.

If you can't do that, you can't be part of my collection. Why anyone would sell a Monster Player is beyond me.

Unfortunately we live in a world where words don't mean anything especially when it comes to marketing and money.

yes sir, that shaft did have lots of rpi's (good eye).

It was paid for right away and should be on the az'ers front porch in West Virginia sometime today.

A few years back, I sold two unchalked South West cues (6-points with veneers) on here for less than 2k each. Was that a fire sale?

A Fire Sale is when you have had a fire in your store, everything smells smokey and you want to unload all your inventory cheap so you can either rebuild or get out fast.
