ok, this is my all time favorite thread, easily. thanks to all for the cecil info, great stuff.

also loved the cooney stuff, would love to hear more. he has always been one of my favorite players.

one more name to throw out there that i always have trouble getting info on from the source..... al romero.
Lil Al in the mid sixties visited the obscure bowling alley where I shot pool dressed in dirty overalls and a straw hat - he looked lame. Took a cue off of the rack a proceeded to take all of the money.
Later I met him and Hawiian Brian at Gardena Bowl where they would be practicing, instructing and gambling at 60 cents an hour.

What is Parica like in long races?
Parica said back around 10 years ago that he would play Efren 21 ahead and make the game last for days to wear Efren down for Efren wasn't in the best of health - bad teeth and smoking.
When Parica was asked to practice for the sweaters, he said that practice was for those that don't know what they are doing - why we practice.

I've heard that before too. He isn't lying, is he?!

I need practice.

Thanks to all for the stories. This thread is better than BIH!

Tom from Cincy does it now!

Sorry to divert the subject. Jay are you going to run the Sacramento Jamboree in June? You do such a great job. I know RA usually is up there for it as well as some of the top West Coast One Pocket players. I got to play Rodney some one pocket up there and his game plan was 8 and out over and over again. This was after he told me "take it easy I am just learning (one hole) the game". LOL!!!!!!!

yobagua...My friend, Tom Suarez, is now the tournament director at HT in Sacremento. He ran the Jamboree last June, and did a terrific job. The players LOVE him...as does the owner.

I don't want this thread to die. If anyone here is in contact with R Allen and could get some of his thoughts in a post it would be a bestseller.

Anybody here know of Scott Richardson or his whereabouts? Jay?

He moved back East. I saw him at a tournament a couple of years back (BCA?). Can't remember where he moved to. Still playing though.
Good guy, decent player.

Two years ago at DCC I saw him lose 2 in a row in
the mini- 1 hole tourney to some guy who played
about like me. When I asked the guy if he knew
who he just eliminated he said, " Who cares? I'm
a pretty good shortstop with a lot of heart."
I always wondered what that was all about.
Nobody seemed to be watching the match but me.
I know anybody can lose but still...

I haven't talked to him for a couple of weeks, but he is in Vegas & is putting his stories together and talking with some of the other pool legends who have put out books about how to get it done. It will be a good one.

Do u remember?

A couple of years ago he was burglarized and boxes of memorabillia, tapes, writings, etc. etc he was saving for a book was lost, at least according to him when he visited that year. It seems he now a few years behind in catching up. He also was working to start a poker site with Harrpy Platis. Hopefully he can get something going soon. It is amazing to me how you guys remember so much. I gambled and traveled and had a lot of experiences but I will be damned if I remember that much.

I've heard from alot of sources that Lassiter averaged 40-50% break and runouts in 9-ball. Aside from being one of the greatest 9ballers, did he have a monster break, or was it easier to make a ball on the break in his days?? That percentage is unbeatable.

Sorry if someone already replied to this but I think they played push out on every shot back then, I'm sure that made a difference in the run percentages vs. today's players. Not saying he wasn't the best 9baller, lots of people agree, but it was a different game back then.

Yes they played push out on any shot but that wouldn't affect the break and run out percentage. If you're breaking and running out the push out doesn't come into play.

Wouldn't it still be a run out if he pushed, the opponent gave the shot back and he ran out?

It would be a runout but not a "break and runout" which was what they were talking about with Lassiter getting 40-50% of.
