When to quit playing league?

I use to love playing league, go out with the buddies and have some fun but that was back when I was just an ok player. For example, APA I am a 7, and its got to the point where they put 2-4 up to play me because if they can get lucky and string something together they basically on the hill. Ive played the 6s and the 7s and they can only manage one win against me. for them its not fun and then for me you just find me hitting balls not really caring and thats a bad thing. I go to the tournaments around town and travel to keep me in shape but Should I keep playing league? I dont want to hurt my mechanics and everything else that I spent plenty of time on to be able to play great pool. Thanks in advance, I know it was alot of rambling but again Thanks.

Unless you're one of the beasts in Seattle, you should be able to find competition in one of the divisions up there. If you're going to the coast in a couple of weeks, you can really find out where you're at in the pecking order.

I think you should stop playing league when you don't like it anymore. There is something to be said for the camaraderie that can only be found on a team, and even if you're still smoking everyone you play there are still things you can work on. I'm sure you'd always like to bust out a 6 pack on some poor unsuspecting soul. I bet there's no feeling like winning the lag and never leaving the table, then try to do it left handed. Your friends, your team probably count on you to be the big angry dog. Every team needs someone that can be a sure win whenever they put them up. Someday you'll get tired of it and move on, maybe tomorrow, maybe a year from now or if they're good friends, then maybe not at all. Right now it seems like you enjoy it, so let it breathe

If you are playing APA why not just play Masters so you don't have to worry about handicap?

As for when to quit....when it stops being fun. Can't think of any other reason to play league. It's not to get rich that's for sure

You'll know

When matters become unrealistic/unfair and political....everyone's tipping point is different. Mine, screaming blonde headed Alpha drunk bimbos past their prime....and if there's two in the room at the same time, all bets off

When you don't enjoy it anymore its time to quit. I love to play league but refuse to play APA to be trapped to where you have to play 3 or 4 sessions to be able to go anywhere. The NAPA and the BEC are the best leagues I played in. For me being around friends and good people helps a lot but I still want to enjoy playing. Hope this helps.

I figured out during one of my many times when I felt "burnt-out" from leagues that I could probably spend about the same amount of money just about anytime I wanted to and find someone (of my choosing very often) to play a cheap set, race to 7 and still get in as many games as I would have during league. Always somebody willing to play cheap...and some days you will actually come out ahead and still get to play that race to 7. No commitment to a certain night...no league yearly dues...no handicaps (if you choose to play even)...no LO's to b*tch about...and no drama...just pool.

I quit league when I realized that the best part was getting drunk afterwards (or sometimes during).

Maybe find 7 like minded players and play some 15 ball rotation on the American Rotation Championship Series, I could use the help. It's like one big national event every 2 months and if you qualify its short, sweet and paid for. Check it out and let me know if it's an option for ya; www.AmericanBilliardClub.com

my answer would be tonight.

My original team that qualified for regionals 9 months ago now has a skill level of 31. So its not possible for us to even start a valid team at regionals. So if we have no chance at winning the money, why would we continue to pay in. Oh well I was ready to find stiffer competition as well. I hate playing 2's and 3's. Silliness. Well atleast I beat a good skill level 8 player on my way out the door. He has drug me pretty hard in the past so the revenge was nice! Screw the APA!!!!!!!!#

I'm not sure how it would hurt your mechanics by playing leagues. You should focused on the game not the player. I try to play like I'm playing the best player in the state. Play the same safes or shots you would no matter who is across from you. Maybe it's time you moved on from apa and played bca or acs where you play someone straight up. Do they have an apa masters division in your area ? I would like to give that a try but they don't have one in our area..There wasn't enough interest.

i'd say the same

you will know

i won my first league trophy, in 1967, i played for 43 years in the bca, bush, budwiser, twin lakes, and lake havasu leagues. At one time i was on 3 different leagues at once. i was on a first place team for 95 % of the time, played in the nationals in vegas for 15 or so years, then in 2010 i decided i had enough.

i enjoyed it while i was playing, but don't miss it at all. at 70 i still play in a few local tournaments, but my real love is one pocket.

Quit when it stops being fun. I would change leagues 1st before totally stopping. Infact I am looking to do that myself.

I sort of have the same issues with APA as the OP. I like APA because i get to play witth friends/family tho who aren't top shelf players.

OP, I would suggest looking into BCA/VNEA leagues. Tougher competition and no handicaps. I play that one of the 2 nights a week I play league and really enjoy it.

It sounds like you have out grown your league, time to move on. You said it was fun in the beginning but not so much now. If your not having fun playing a game then whats the point. I think you will find that if your not having some level of fun your game will suffer.
