When you rack do you lay your cue flat on the table or put the butt on the rail?

Do you lay the cue flat on the table or put the butt on the rail when racking?

Actually, I do neither. I put my cue in the case. That's where I keep it when I'm playing. cue case that will accept the cue butt down, makes BEST cue holder ever.

I NEVER LAY MY CUE ON THE TABLE. WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT ????
 
For a moment there, I thought this thread was gonna be about something else, lol.

My response: If I just ran out and it's my turn to rack, I put my cue on the table. If I am sitting in my chair when the game ends and it's my turn to rack, I leave my cue learned against the table I was sitting next to. Only a few times have I leaned the cue on the end rail.

Most places won't let you "sit" on the table(s) -- if they find you with your butt on the rail, that butt soon finds itself skidding out the front entrance... :D

Flat on the table or on the Qclaw. I would think not only could a cue with the butt on the rail easily roll off, but I would also think it would put stress on the shaft/joint, maybe not though

Flat on the table from the corner pocket across the rack so I can get to the side of the table and pick it up before the person breaks.

As far as me I never break till the person has moved away from the table. PERIOD
 
I think I began putting the butt on the rail around the time I started
buying a lot of used cues. It was easier for me to tell if the cue is warped
or just has a taper roll that way. If it's rolls down the rail I sell it.
 
I see a lot of pros lay the butt of the cue on the rail and the tip on the cloth - a lot of them. It is not something I would ever do and I have wondered why they would even do this. I can only imagine that it's more one of attitude, that to a professional a cue stick is just a tool and all the parts can be replaced.

It never occurred to me that laying it flat on the table might get it dirty. I prefer to bring my cue to the table with me and lay it down rather than leaning over by my chair. First off it keeps some inebriated doofus from banging into it on his way back to his table with another pitcher of beer. Secondly, it keeps it from getting stolen. I never turn my back on my cue when I'm in a pool hall, it is always in sight - that's a rule. So it comes to the table with me when I'm racking. I'm not going to lean it against the table where it can slide away, so I lay it down flat. BTW, I'm always very careful when I pick it off the bed so as not to ding it on the table light - I hate when that happens.

At home, I tend to leave it in the cue claw. No danger of it walking off when I'm not looking.

On coin op tables I have always used the cue holder thats built into the end rail apron of the table...... I have seen cueballs come out of this area also after a scratch:rolleyes:.

After some thought, I do this more than putting the butt on the rail. I put it on the rail if I'm in a hurry, sometimes. Often when a set is drawn out and I just want to get it over, winning if I can.
 
I lay the butt of my cue on the rail simply because i don't want it to touch the cloth and all the dust, dirt, and chalk that lays on top of it.

Ever take an ebony cue and roll it across the table? The ebony really shows how much crap clings to the cue... it's pretty gross.
 
I laid mine flat until I read this tread today. Tonight I cleaned my Irish Linen and was surprised how dirty it was. Now I will put it in the cue cradle of the chair. Never on the table again. I always hold my hand out to keep from getting the Dizzy Dean break shot on my head from Fast Eddy.
