Where is?? Question on Action..

I was wondering. Right now, Where's the best place to move for the action? Something that's steady and always around.. Just a good place to live where you can always at least get some $10 or $20 a game action daily and on up.

Currently where I'm at, I couldn't give up the last 8 and get $1 a game play.. It's unreal.. There's not many players in the small area to begin with and the ones who do play a little.. Forget about it.. It's a pool players nightmare..

So.... Where's currently the best place to stay and become a regular where players of all levels will always bet a little with anyone daily?

Thanks,

If you like One Pocket, it's the House Of Billiards in West Los Angeles. $10 to $50 action every day. Sometimes higher.

Tulsa always had action when I lived there several years ago, lots of local players willing to play and a few road players stopping by, I mostly hung at the Billiard Palace but their are other rooms as well.

It's a guess, a thought, but I'd move somewhere north, where everyone is inside most of the year. Why not try Canada? There always seems to be a herd of good players up there, not as good as the Phillipinos, but a notch better than your good players here in the northern states. Where to go I have no idea, but contact Pool School in Paradise/Paul Potier and I'm sure he would be of some help, good luck.

If you move to Manila, you can play all day and night until your feet give out. All new arrivals are given a "dance card" and you fill out ten names to play in order. When you've played all these guys, you get a new card with ten more names.

The truth is you can play all you want over there and with any level of player and for low to high stakes. Just ask Roy.

Get hold of Shorty he is in Florida and loves to gamble.

I think you may have missed the point to the thread but thanks for the word anyway.

Dammit! How are you gonna be a pool player if you are up at this hour.

Next thing, you'll be like Jay, posting at 6am.

Central AL

Not much luck on pool anymore, but you can play poker everyday here. Log on to the internet and play until everyone else wakes up, then go to one of the four poker games within 30 miles.

Action is dead everywhere and has been for years now and it is not coming back, ever!

Yes, there will always be a few hot spots and a lucky score every once in a while, but the day of the road player and consistent action is gone. There is too much information about all of the players, instant internet communication, speed knowledge, you tube. A few talented young players may sneek around getting some for a while, but they will be exposed in very short time. League play, technology, knowledge have killed the action. It's not coming back so my advise is to adjust to what the game has become, tournament action.

If you are actually thinking of moving just for a $10-20 game, your either retired, financially set, or just plain crazy. Good luck!

Unfortunately for the action lovers and fortunately for the pool purists, there is a lot of truth in what you say.

In my area, as just one example, there are not any pool rooms that are what I would deem to be a good environment for a pool player who enjoys the good attributes of a cool pool room atmosphere.

Years ago, there were a couple of them in area, and for the locals who may remember them and are as old as me, it would be Randolph Hills Billiards in Rockville, MD and Bill and Billie's in GLEN BURNIE (not Arnold), MD.

During the day at Randolph Hills, there was a regular crowd who were usually seen playing one-pocket, like Chester Morris, Ballroom Dancer Vinnie, and Old Man Mickey. They would always be willing to show the younger players a few tips. Old Man Mickey showed me a good break in 9-ball on the big table. At that time, I was more of an 8-ball player on the bar boxes.

They had a soda fountain counter with homemade delicacies. My favorite was the tuna fish sandwich, always fresh and tasty. The coffee was always brewing, and there was no alcohol served, which I happened to like in a pool room.

By night, the action would start, and we used to have a lot of local action men in Maryland: Cigar Tom, Geese, Fat Mike, Tom-Tom, Quick Vic, Bobby Hawk, the Shifflet brothers, Mamoo, Ralph, Rudd, Drug Fair, Bus Driver Ronnie, Reggie, Strawberry, Sterling, Korean Lee, Lawyer Robbie, Radar, Baby Huey, Hodji, and Mickey Danitelli. Those are just a few action players who I can remember. We used to sit back and enjoy the show each and every night, watching the games these guys woud conjure up.

Today, the pool rooms IN MY AREA are bars, sports lounges, and pickup joints. Pool is only an afterthought. Most of them would probably make more money without the pool tables, to tell you the truth.

I don't know what happened to those pool rooms of yesteryear, but if you can find one, that's where I'd be hanging my cue stick.

I wouldn't say it's dead everywhere. Even with the current player knowledge I see more and more of these guys giving up weight to the less skilled player just for the gamble.
If you want to come down to SW Florida look up James ("biggame her on the forum) the room owner of Diamond Billiards I believe he can find you a game from one-pocket to Straight pool and anything in between. I have seen people play for drinks to $1000.00's here.

I also said there will always be hotspots, but never will it be back to the days of yesteryear where you could walk into almost any joint and find action. Today you walk into any join and you are lucky to find action.

Its not even close to what it used to be.

Very true. I recall going into places wher the majority of tables have action games.

Now, it is a rarity to see a single one going on.
