Truth be told, I think some players are able to make action happen, no matter where they are.
I have walked into some rooms that look like dungeons, dead as a doornail, and lo and behold, after a few back-and-forths, it was action jackson.
I went on the road with an action player one time who had the personality of a piss-ant, unless he was winning, of course. Then he was such a nice guy! :grin-square:
We'd walk into joints, he'd look around, and then turn to me and say, "There's nothing happening here. Let's go." Sometimes he'd walk into a pool room or a bar and say to the guy behind the counter, "Anybody here want to play some 9-ball?" I mean he had no knack for getting the action going.
Where I used to hang out, there was a large group of us who used to go into this joint every single day and play 8-ball on the one and only table for a dollar or a brewskie. I had more fun playing for that dollar. If I was able to make 10 bucks for the night, I felt wealthy. It was the win, though, more so than the monies. I really, really, really liked beating some of those guys, and they liked it when they scored the big "W" over me too.
When the place would shut down, we'd sometimes stay after hours. The bartender was one of us, a pool nut, and he'd let us play for 5 bucks a game or 10 bucks a game. We'd play until somebody went bust. Man, did we used to have fun! It was the comraderie, more so than the gambling, though, that made it fun.
I guess what I'm saying is that if you're looking for stone-cold action, with no friendship involved, then you sometimes have to make that happen, kind of like a hit and run.
If you're looking for a place to hang out that has action, like the experience I described above, then hopefully you'll find a place that has like-minded people who just want to gamble a little on the offs and have fun with it. Some of the best times in my life I ever had with pool was playing those friends of mine for the buck or brewskie.
