Where is the best Pool Room

The BEST? It's on the cover of the new issue of Billiards Digest...Fargo Billiards, Fargo ND. You will find everything you're looking for, and more. Others include Amsterdam Billiards in NYC, Ultimate Billiards in FL, and Hollywood Billiards in Los Angeles. Certainly there are others I have missed!

If you do come to the West Coast and you're interested in where you will find the best players out here, stop at Hard Times in Bellflower. It is not "upscale" by any means, but the competition available there is top notch. All the best players in Southern Cal can be found there. For sure the first Sunday of the month tournament always has a tough field. If you are looking for a game you should have no problem matching up there.

i can give you three here in GA. the pool room room in duluth, mr. cues 2 in chamblee, and marietta billiard club in marietta (of course). and from reading on this forum i can tell you colby's in AZ. sounds like it gets more than it's share of pro's, short stops and gamblers. all of these rooms also offer local and pro tournaments as well. as for up scale nice rooms the three here in GA - the pool room, marietta billiard club and last cues. all are nice, just the first two are a little more so.

I like warm, inviting, pool halls, places that have excellent equipment, comfort, and room to play.

I want to know that someone gave some thought to making me feel good the minute I walk into their establishment.

With the above in mind, my favorite picks are Amsterdam Billiards in NYC (been in and played in their current and former locations), and Fargo Billiards and Gastropub, Fargo ND (never been there but have seen many pics and videos and have heard nothing but glowing reports about the place).

good pool rooms...

you might not find a ton of great players on a daily basis...but caspers in san leon texas is a super nice place and right on the water....if you want action bogies billiards in houston is the place to play the 9ft setups are nice a sectioned off from 8fts and bar tables also 24 hour

Snookers in Providence RI. Especially on a Wendesday night.

World Class Billiards in Peabody, Ma. most afternoons.

I looknig for an upscale pool room where alot of the best players go to play. Anywhere in the US. Thanks.

Hi, Larry. Long time no see. Hope all is well with you. Here's my pick ranked in order from 1 to 4:

NUMBER 1 Because of location, this room may be where "players" play nearest your location. It is in Glen Burnie, "Big Daddy's Billiards." The guy that used to work at the pool room in Arnold (Bill and Billie's), Richard Molineiro, opened this one up a few years ago. You'd recognize him if you saw him. I do think they have a weekly tournament there. So you might want to call them up and find out what's happening.

Big Daddy's
7954 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd, Suite #2-G
Glen Burnie, Maryland
(410) 760-1332

NUMBER 2 My next pick would have been Snooker's in Providence, RI, but they moved. I have not been to the new one, and so I cannot give you a review. However, they do have some excellent players there. Driving north towards Yankee Country is not a pleasant experience, if you catch my drift. The air smells bad in Northern Jersey, the tolls are plentiful, gridlock traffic problems occur at any time of day, and the drivers on the road are RUDE and sometimes dangerous. It's every man for himself, literally.

SO, that said, I'd pick Q-Master's in Norfolk, Virginia. Anything down South, once you past Richmond, is smooth sailing ahead. In fact, there's two EXCELLENT pool rooms in Richmond that you can check out en route to Norfolk:

Side Pocket
2012 Staples Mill Rd
Richmond, VA 23230-3109
(804) 353-4018

The Playing Field
7801 W Broad St # 50
Richmond, VA 23294
(804) 755-7700

Norfolk is about a 3-hour drive, and this pool room has a long and rich history of happenings. I am sure they have weekly tournaments that you could check out.

Q-Masters
5612-A Princess Anne Rd.
Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462
(757)499-8900

Number 3 It is only because I have read so much hype about Mike Page's Fargo Billiards and Gastro Pub that I would recommend this to you; that is, if you feel like driving. This time of year, I'm pretty sure there may be a whole lot of snow en route. So pack up your wool socks and cap for warmth. The pool looks inviting, the food ambrosial, and the people seem genuinely nice. Here's an article about Fargo Billiards from Billiards Digest magazine: http://billiardsdigest.com/new_current_issue/nov_09/index.php

Fargo Billiards
3234 43rd Street South
Fargo, North Dakota 58104

Number 4 Of course, Larry, if you've got the itch get out of Dodge City to see pool at its finest and shoot some balls with "players," I suggest waiting until January and going to the Derby City Classic. I have a feeling you'll like it a lot. Ask Parks or Jennifer, Dennis or Mike Wilson, or anybody who's been there. I'm sure they'll give it a thumbs-up. After one week there, I think I can safely say that you'll get your pool fix and a whole lot more.

The venue for DDC is here:
Code# S01DPKG & S01HDER
Tournament Dates: Jan 22-30, 2010

Horseshoe Casino and Hotel
11999 Casino Center Drive SE
Elizabeth, IN 47117
1-866-766-2671

Here's a cute shot of Steve the Japanese media guy, J.R. Calvert of InsidePOOL magazine, and one of the nicest, prettiest, and fun lady players I've ever met, Rachel Abbink. Check out the intensity on everybody's faces at the Derby City Classic (DCC).

If you've never been there, you should go one time in your life, if you love pool. It takes me a week to recover from a trip to the DCC, but that's another story.

Ah, trip sevens is my lucky number. Later, gators. Until we meet again....

I looked at a Billiards Digest, and its a pretty new copy"not exactly sure which one though", but my pool hall is ranked 2nd "All American Billiards" , I am not sure which one was first...it was really nice though.

Most tables in the country.

My hometown happens to have one of the best halls in the country.
Also has "the ring" which is 4 tables directly behind the front counter
fenced off from the rest of the hall. If anyone knows of a room with more than 64 tables please let me know.

Shooters Billiard Club and Cafe

Yep.. you're right on the money with that one

Yep.. you're right on the money with that one. I still need to make it out to the Marietta billiard Club, maybe to watch or play in the next Gem City 9ball event.
Cheers, Mark

FARGO Billiards...randyg

Didn't you go to Champs on Gaston , late 80's- early 90's?Think it became CJ's. You look familiar to me. How would you rate Champs then to Fargo now.I always thought Champs was very good, action , tournaments and 24 hours.

Didn't think Clicks or any others could hold a candle to Champs. Been awhile since i've been around.
