you gave them all the same components to work with. This is an offshoot of hang-the-9's thread about which ones work would fetch the highest $$$'s.

All parts being equal......wood, pin, joint and ferrule material, etc. Which cuemaker would make the best playing cue?

My choice may not be the most popular but I would pick Tim Scruggs.

Material selection is much of what makes the top cues play great.

If you start with the same materials, and build the cues with solid construction, they will all play about the same.

I think the choice of best playing cue is relative to the player. I do not like fat butts (and I cannot lie), so I don't particularly like a South West cue. But that is a subjective preference, as would be the choice of best playing cue.

I ordered both my SW's with slim butts. No problem.

First of all, hit, feel, and playability are very subjective terms. What works for me may not work for you and so on. So I would have to say that this thread is based on a question that is kind of impossible to answer.

HOWEVER, if you were to base it on popular opinion, the answers most commonly given would likely be:

Searing
South West
Kersenbrock
Scruggs (I don't get that one)
Mottey

IMHO there is no 100% correct answer to this question, just opinions.

I think Cocobolo Cowboy has it right. You could get as many answers to that questions as there are people you ask for an opinion. GF

Have a cue makers shootout? Id like this, and it would push inovation... Most would proboly just build what they knew, but id suspect some would be creative enough to make sure they were on top...

The annual Cue makers "SHOOTOUT" Id limmit it to 100 cue makers, with 30 days build time...

the thread said best playing cue so,Kersenbrock or SW.i have had Searings and SW and Kers' and SW and Kers' play better, imo.

also SW cues are not considered fat butts.i believe the SW standard butt cap is 1.24" whcih is skinny by most peoples standards.

So you believe that the cuemakers individual construction techniques have no bearing on how the cue will play?

hmmmmm.........
