Which players irritate you the most?

With me, I guess it is players who give unsolicited advice, or have childish temper tantrums (although sometimes this can be amusing)...

Players who play good and go on about how lucky they are.

1) I can't stand players who can't run 2 friggin' balls trying to tell someone else how to shoot. I mean come on! What kind of advice can you give if you can't perform what you are telling someone else to do??
2) People who insist on talking to me during my game/match when I'm obviously ignoring them.

Good one Keith. We've got a guy in my pool hall who will delibertly give you a shitty rack every time. Some shitty racks are good(see Joe Tuckers racking secrets)however, the kind this guy gives sure aren't.I don't even bother playing him because besides bad racking he brings with them a whole package of other sharking techniques. Also when you beat him he never gives you credit and allways attributes your victories to lucky rolls or the fact that he hung you garbage.

Bottom line is, I hate playing cheaters (and whiners), because that's the type of pool player they really are.RJ

You know, the amazing thing about pool is that you can meet someone and actually like them and then you play some pool with them and the Mr Hyde comes right on out! That's why I tell people that they should take someone they're dating to a pool hall and play them some before you let the relationship get too far. It's a great way to clock someone's speed as a person.

I play for the enjoyment of the game and I cannot stand to play with someone who cheats, gets agitated easily, sharks, or is just a poor loser. They take all the enjoyment out of the game for me.

Hey Billy_Bob,

1. The players who take more than 45 seconds to shoot when playing "brain dead" 9-Ball.

2. The players who stall fiddling with a rack which isn't perfect.

3. As for the personal habits of the players, some of whom I know personally I don't care what they do as long as they don't spoil the tournament I paid to see.

I see Dr. McCready above inspecting a rack as long as it is 30 seconds or less I don't care.

Cheers,

"Gremlin" :D

The man who is luckies and call it skill ...And is know as the framers..

Oh I agree with that one big time! I once played a guy who insisted each of his 9-ball racks be perfect (he was racking for his opponent in league play).

The thing is, he couldn't rack just the 9 balls, he would rack all 15 balls, then remove the balls in the corners to make the 9-ball rack. Then while removing the balls from the corners, he would bump the rack and need to start all over!

Uggghhhh!

Spot on Rick.

You can learn a lot about people watching them compete, especially in pool if they are a keen player, and I should add if they are drunk.

Pool is an excellent schoolhouse for building character if one aspires toward self-improvement through tough personal tests and by learning from the flaws in others.

I watched a match, double elimination, and Kim Davenport was on the losers' side. The guy he was playing was so slow and methodical he was driving everyone crazy. He'd take 5 minutes to rack the balls! Kim finally went over and looked at the rack and said it wasn't right. The guy re-racks them, another 5 minutes goes by. Kim goes over and looks at the rack again and says they're still not right. The guy takes 10 minutes to rack them this time. Kim goes over and looks at them and says they're still not right so the guy asks Kim if he would like to rack them. Kim said sure and racked the balls in about 10 seconds. He breaks the balls and makes the 9 on the break. The other guy couldn't make a ball after that. I kind of thought it was justice because this guy was so slow that everyone was pissed at him.

I hate to play or even watch people who cheat{ Sharking, rackers, dumpers, taking obvious bad hits and arguing that you made a bad hit just to shark you.} and It also irritates the crap out of me to see people walking around a tournament bad mouthing another player about not having any gamble when they are being staked and not betting a nickle of their own money. Hi Rick,

Wasn't a very friendly Asian gentleman from LA by any chance? Sounds like a guy I played in Reno a year or two ago. "The Freezer" up and quit the same guy in mid-match.

Colin,
I totally agree that pool and golf both will tell you a lot about a person's character.

I do not however think there are any sports that build character. Sports reveal character, good coaches (or a good attitude towards self-instruction) can build character.

Some Students

I got a guy who wants to learn how to play one hole. I am trying to help him out. When it is his turn to shoot, he ask me what to do. This goes on during the whole game. Then when he wins one, he acts like he has really acomplished something. I do all the thinking, explaining, and how to make the shots and control whitey. Always wants to play for "bragging rights". What a crock of XXXX.

No he wasn't CK. I don't really want to say his name because I didn't paint a really good picture of him. I think he's a really nice guy but he just is so meticulous that he takes forever to complete a game. This guy would not be the type of guy that would up and quit mid-match imo. He's a stand-up guy he just takes a long time to shoot and rack.

Nobody but nobody is more irritating than a slow player. The really slow ones should apologize after every shot!

Slow players aside, though, the most irritating players are the ones that always blame their break when they lose, whether it's the reason for their failure or not. An extreme example once came at a 1997 PBT event at Great Gorge in upstate New York. A top pro, whose name I'd rather withhold as it's not my purpose to embarrass him, claimed he just never got his break going after an 11 - 1 loss. Duh.

It be OK though. The guy knows I will shoot his eyes out for the cheese. Let em win one or two and he is all mine buddy. Him and his wallet.
