Which wrap?

wrap

What kind of leather is that? Looks like black shark. If it is - could you tell us how it feels? I have been thinking about using sharkskin on one of my cues...

Leave as is... it just works so well👍

I like it as is. If you don't like the feel of that leather, I would stay with black. From my perspective, it lets the more subtle features of the cue to stand out. JMO

Looks like you found a winner. Paul makes great players. Congratulations.

For me as a player I like white with brown spec. I am not a big leather fan for playing.

I like black.

Obviously brown would suit the cue.

I'm a bit torn really.

But I love that cue.

If it were mine I would probably leave it alone for a long while and play it before deciding to change it.

Never had a shark wrap. Feels coarse but I am pretty sure it is just leather. I have always been partial to lizard but I think that either would look really good. I heard Pauls Ivory jointed cues played great and got an opportunity to pick this gem up. Absolutely love it. Will see.

Contact Martin, aka jazznpool here at AZB, and go with one of his Spanish Bull wraps. They are superb.

I have had a Shark wrap before. I didn't care for it. Spanish bull all the way.

Or

Since this is a Mottey, elephant ear would also be very nice. Looking at the wood in your cue, a really dark violin, or antique brown, would also be very classy, IMO.

The wrap is very important for the appearance as much as the playability aspect.

If you want a black leather wrap, Kangaroo leather is the best feeling wrap I've tried.
Picking a wrap with a color has to avoid becoming a dominant feature of the cue's look.

For example, a cordovan color leather wrap might look nice but the cue's design gets lost.
A black wrap would separate and highlight the design a lot more than a vivacious colored wrap.

It's for this very reason I struggled selecting the wrap for my last cue.......I am basically a Cortland
linen wrap guy and the truth is CL#9 is simply not a universal fit for every cue design. My last cue
needed a wrap and I couldn't use Cortland so leather was the only option.

Like I wrote, the wrap has got to balance the design and should never become the dominant first
impression when yu look at the cue.......it's a friggin' wrap.....functionally important and it simply has
to "compliment" the design, not take it over like some colored wraps that actually distract from the
beauty of the design. I recall a pretty Tascarella cue with a color wrap that looked just gaudy.

I think black is your safest bet in leather and like I said Kangaroo has the best feel. I didn't want a
black wrap on my design because it has an ebony sleeve and ebony points and IMO, a black wrap
would have been too much black. So I went with a gray elephant leather wrap because gray is
essentially a neutral color and should balance out the sleeve and forearm designs without diminishing
the design's look. Martin Bick at Superior Cues provided me the wrap but allow me to caution you.

My cue collection only has two leather wrap cues........my Prewitt cue and my newest Bob Owen cue.
The Prewitt has black elephant ear and my Owen cue uses deluxe elephant leather......big difference.
I hate the wrap on my Prewitt cue.....feels too pebbly and rubber like and reminds me of my golf clubs.

However, I really enjoy the wrap on my Owen cue, even though it is not Cortland Linen. So much so
that I would use deluxe elephant as a wrap again and intend to do so as I am working hard to get an
exemption from the CA ivory ban that starts in 2 weeks. Anyway, here's how gray deluxe elephant looks.
