Whitten cases made in china

JB- I 100% agree with the fact that you can not go with out using something made in china! My point is that I would much rather buy something from a company that made the effort to employ people here rather then go over seas because its cheaper(AIRLINES)!!!!!!!!! Think how many people here could be employed if they kept their call centers in the US!! As far as my predator shaft I didnt know they were made in China until I read it on AZ maybe a year ago, I woudlnt change a thing about it BUT if they moved to China to make them cheaper and offered a inferior product by doing so I wouldn't stand behind them

I would also pay 300 dollars for the shaft hell I paid 252 for it a year ago, I am as an American willing to pay more for something that was made here(not saying its un American to not) but thats just me. If a business moved to another state it is still here in the US so no biggie and just like the mowing example I would rather pay jimmy down the street more to mow then hector and his crew because its people(illeagal aliens) who have screwed the construciton market up by underbidding EVERYONE

Hi All,
I have many Cases from US Casemakers and one from Taiwan, but the BEST is the Case that is made in China:eek::grin:

to JV; chicken and JB and of course anybody who bothers to read my my bs...

John 1st and most important:

one fine day, long, long ago someone told me of a great book [in the 60's] and i lived in Manhattan so i went to my favorite book store - Brentanos and bought it. i was the kind of person [not really a nerd, but maybe heady] that would spend a day at Brentanos just finding a new great book.

it was true for me then that this book was great and i still remember a few direct quotes from this imo great book; and here is one of them:

"""TO ONE WHO HAS THE EXPERIENCE NO EXPLANATION IS NECESSARY, TO ONE WHO HAS 'NOT' HAD THE EXPERIENCE NO EXPLANATION IS POSSIBLE."""

just one mans opinion John, you have learned the 'basics' of China, and i am sure being married to a Chinese National has helped you on that road greatly. you have vested you life; and i will say again "Your Life" in China and really, you have far exceeded me in your short time there [me = someone 'i' think is pretty wise], but i can always speak from the heart and i am sure you have already, or, will soon exceed me. Great Job kid.

getting back to my books as a youth, and the CAPITALIZED QUOTE ABOVE, you will never ever find success trying to reason with JV or chicken [unless they one day are willing to open their minds - to learn from another with far greater experience]. kind of like; if you look for unhappiness in life - you will find it; and take for example my wife - she always looks for happiness in life - and she finds it everyday.

JV & chicken have a "Belief System" that they can not escape from. to me, and only to me, they have created the prison of the China they compose irrespective of reality and serious thought. and besides, their only experiences if bad briefcase locks and thinking they really know sh*t about lead.

and by the way boys and girls, lead is still present... and not only in paint, it is in your drinking water too; what a revelation, huh. i can tell you ppm and also ppB. i am an importer and i have to know and i have to test every fn thing, always!!!!

to chicken & JV:

we all have our hobbies and things we love to do in life and for sure as the inimical chicken said "WE ARE ALL POOL PLAYERS"!!!!! yeah, chick, that was the best line in all of this thread, hands down, without doubt.

if you get to vegas in may, i would love to meet you. you have a great spirit and no problem; we can agree to disagree.

but i want to add, i love trapshooting. beautiful clay targets against a beautiful sky and one of my great shotguns in my hands. trust me when i tell you how enjoyable it is. and also, just about 2 miles from me there used to be [but now gone] an indoor range i would go to at least 3 nights a week just to enjoy an hour or two of target practice with handguns before my wife made dinner. do you know how much "volatile" lead i consumed whether shooting trap or hand guns? lots and lots , beyond belief. that is pure lead dust, and even with jacketed bullets, but of course shotshells are just lead and not jacketed at all.

do you know why they put lead in paint? it was a preservative, and why they put lead in gas, also cause it was a preservative [or lubricant but that has the same meaning for both gas and paint.

further: when i was a child, i feared my grandma the most. maybe she was 5'3" and weighed 90 pounds, but heaven forbid i did anything wrong she would tell me how i shamed our family. well for Chinese, that is even more strong. to do something to shame your family, or, heaven forbid China, in the first case your family will feel you betrayed "all of your ancestors", in the second case, for sure you will be put to death!! no questions, done deal, and even the family of the perp will be made to pay for the bullet!! i kid you not. i kid you not!!!!!!!!

JB really tries so hard to express things you have no idea of. you should really try and trust him. i know you are great guys, and we all enjoy your presence here, but i hope you can learn some things that you are not as familiar with as John. that is my hope, truly. and again as chicken said: "WE ARE ALL POOL PLAYERS", right?

sri for this long post and now its time for me to go back to my pasture and shut the heck up. i'm on my way, leaving now...

and all the best to you all,
smokey

Smokey, I think you've been inhaling more than lead dust.
Seriously, I used to teach English as a second language and I have no idea
what point you're trying to make.
I think we'll change your name to Ramblin Man.
From China to guns to Grandma. Like WTF?
Are you on the Florida diet?

Never said there is anything wrong with a Chineese product, I do however have a problem with companys who go over seas because it is cheaper when they could employ people here(I have no idea about jb's situaiton so I cant coment on something I know nothing about)

Take another look at Big Tattoo's girls and bikes and tell me what his "message" is. Other than the fact that he is a nice looking guy surrounded by lovely girls and owns a cool bike.

On the other hand, Smokey made a rather eloquent (but long) statement that really boiled down to two lines, "If you've had the experience, no explanation is necessary. If you haven't, no explanation will suffice." That about sums up what he was trying to convey. I happen to think it is a very wise comment.

No one had any idea what this thread would evolve into, and it has been a long and complicated debate. One thing I will say, is that it has been both informative and educational, if you took the time to read the posts by JB, Classiccues, Smokey and others. All have put forth some good thought that took time to formulate. Thanks all!

Well my wife dragged me off to the temple for some much needed distraction. This thread of Whitten's which was supposed to be just informing their customers to beware of counterfeit versions of their product has taken a completely wrong turn, especially when my customers are posting pictures of my cases.

Smokey, thank you. Your advice and support have really helped me. Ralf, I thought of you today as I strolled through the temple.

Joe and Brian, you are entitled to you views and although I hope you can find it within you broaden them at some point I do respect both of you and am glad we met up at the Super Billiards Expo.

Now, lets bring this thread back to where it belongs and leave it there if possible.

I have known the Whittens for at least 13 years, Dan for sure that long. I have studied their product longer than that.

They make as fine a product as exists. Whatever you have ever thought about concerning fine leather goods Whitten exemplifies it. I cannot recall ever seeing any Whitten case with a visible flaw on it.

They have been copied in one form or another for as long as I can remember. Recently however in the past three years their cases have been copied nearly verbatim which to my knowledge is new.

Now it appears as if their brand is being illegally used by someone that they were talking to about doing some business with.

So the warning is to all of you who might be considering a Whitten case, do your best to verify that it is genuine before you purchase it.

i buy american when i can. i truly feel we get a lot products from china that they could do better in the production quality (ie. no lead in kids toys or poisons in the drywall or pet food or toothpaste) but we also get a lot of things they make quite well. i my lowly opinion a large part of the problem starts here at home. the unions ask for and get way too much. i am all for them organizing to get fair wages, health benefits, and decent hours. i don't feel people should get screwed into working 90 hous for sub par pay and no benefits, but i know some guys in the elevator industry that make way too much and can barely get fired even if they suck at thier job all because they have a strong union. there has to be a balance. our country could also do more to keep manufacturing here. instead of bailing out companies that are "to big to fail" maybe give some of that money as incentives to companies that choose to keep thier manufaturing plants here in the states. i am also sick of everyone else in the world bashing the states. when someone invades, when there are people starving, when they want help, often we are the first country they call. then they all say they hate us. we are the ugly americans. ok, fine. we'll take our ball and go home. starving in dafur, too bad. warlords in somalia, sucks to be you. so and so on. i am tired of watching my friends and country men die for others. help our homeless and hungry first. secure our borders first. keep our jobs safe first. and if we have time we'll help you later. and now back on topic of this thread, i am sorry mr. whitten that your getting screwed. counterfiets suck.

Joe and Brian, you are entitled to you views and although I hope you can find it within you broaden them at some point <snip>

JB;

I can't speak for Joe but I will say for myself that you are a real piece of work. You hope I can find it within myself to broaden my views? Give me a break! My views are my views and your rambling "see them from outer space" posts have not changed them.

Is that a circular thinking, red herring sliding down a slippery slope directly into the path of a straw man? They have all appeared in your responses on this thread in one form or another. You are continually obfuscating and word flipping. You can't win the minds of intelligent people with sheer volume - there has to be some substance mixed in.

A perfect example of bad logic: You asked me to look around my house and do an inventory of all of the items here that were made in China that haven't failed or harmed me? Your point being what; that since the majority of products I own from China haven't broken or hurt me yet, that there is no problem with Chinese goods? Are you kidding? That's like saying there is no murder problem in Juarez, Mexico because the majority of the people there have not been killed.. Try comforting the families of the hundreds already murdered there, just this year alone, with your flawed logic.

When I pointed out the problem I encountered with a Predator shaft, you responded that we, the end users, are supposed to measure our cue joints and supply that info to the dealer so we can get a good fit. That, JB, is pure nonsense. There is a standard joint-size and the Chinese made predators weren't meeting that standard on too many of their shafts. With all due respect to your vast experience, I must defer to the lady at Neillson who told me, first-hand, that she noticed a decline in quality to the extent that she has to use a caliper to weed out the odd-sized ones. At that time they had hundreds of predator shafts in stock and they are, as I'm sure you know, a fairly big volume seller. I guess there's a reason why many players seek out the 1st generation shafts.

You want to bet me lunch at next year's SBE that you can find a made in China wire stripper that is better quality than the US made Kleins. While I don't believe that you can, how does this help me or any one else here in the US? We don't have someone on the ground in China acting as our personal shoppers. What our stores are flooded with is the crap from China, not the better than Klein-tool quality items, if they even exist.

I saw that "Fastford" came on this thread in a one-line post stating his opinion that he prefers not to do business with companies who use Chinese labor since it takes away American jobs. He was met with a nearly fifty line response from you. :bash: I say,Easy Tiger! ;)

Since you kept alluding to it, you were asked how many times they (unscrupulous/corrupt Chinese) got a bullet to the head. Your response started off: "Let's look at a hypothetical". Your answer should have been something like '4,627' or '3' or 'I don't know' ; not "Let's look at a hypothetical". There ain't nothing hypothetical about a bullet to the head. The man asked a fair question - he got a pretty story instead of an answer.
Posted by JB Cases: Now, lets bring this thread back to where it belongs and leave it there if possible.
Finally, is it good etiquette to practically dominate a thread with seven nearly back to back "see them from outer space" sized posts in the last 24 hours and to then declare we should get back on topic?

Just wondering...

Kickin' Chicken would you buy a Pool cue Case of the quality of big-tattoo's Case made off shore, or are you a BUY AMERICAN ONLY kind of guy?

No way. There is an expectation in manufacturing and purchasing that the manufacturer is using safe building/construction/material practices. This is as universal as your "global" economy.

Responsibility falls on both parties IMO. Having blind faith in the manufacturer and doing zero legwork in assuring quality control as a importer leaves the importer with alot of blame as well. If the importers and buyers were more dilligent in finding this stuff out and snubbing products that are unsafe then the few unscrupulous manufacturers out there who make products that suck and rely on lazy and ignorant importers to not have due dilligence would be unable to sell those products and cease to exist.

The idea of leaving it up to the manufacturer is absurd when you consider that an estimated 1% of our species is psychopathic, they litterly don't care who they are hurting as long as their money is coming in and they are getting away with things. If they can get away with making things cheaper and possibly unsafe to turn an extra 20% profit they will.

buy american, and quit selling out to the commies:) if buying drugs is supporting terrorists, than surely buying chinese JUNK makes you a commy:)

5000 year history and they still suck balls:) China= teh suck:)

CC: I go out of my way to try to buy American, or to be more specific, to buy other than Chinese goods. Surprised? :grin-square: But it is nearly impossible to do this given the volume of imports that are here.

As for whether I would buy an imported case like big-tatoo's, there are a few considerations:

First and foremost, do I like the look of the case? I think this particular case is a real stunner. Absolutely beautiful. Very subjective, though, I'll bet a fair amount of people would say they do not like it, too gaudy maybe. But me, I'm all in on the way it looks.

Next, unless the casemaker has an established reputation, I would need more detailed images (info) of the assembly workmanship and the quality of the hardware. Also I would need more info on the interior design, materials, and quality.

Lastly, the price....

So, the answer is yes, I would buy this case as long as the price was right and all of the aforemntioned considerations passed muster.

And, to me, the right price means that the case would cost a bit less than, for instance, a well respected American case maker could do it for because they would be my first choice.

Best,
Brian kc

I will say this I think his case is an amazing hand crafted case BUT if the sole reason he went to China was because it is cheaper I wouldnt purchase it. Im not saying I wont buy any thing Chineese made but I will not support a company that went overseas just to save a buck

"""TO ONE WHO HAS THE EXPERIENCE NO EXPLANATION IS NECESSARY, TO ONE WHO HAS 'NOT' HAD THE EXPERIENCE NO EXPLANATION IS POSSIBLE."""

This reminds me so much of another quote (maybe not as profound but just as straight *maybe even straighter* to the point):

"A WORD TO THE WISE AIN'T NECESSARY, IT'S THE STUPID ONES WHO NEED ADVICE.” Bill Cosby

Probably, it would surprise you to learn that I am a business owner who works daily with issues regarding the National Sanitation Foundation and lead reduction. My sense is, there is a distinct possibility I know more than even you do about lead. Someone like yourself who tries to portray himself as a deep thinker, should, before spouting off, perhaps consider the possibility that the other person may actually "know sh*t about lead".
we all have our hobbies and things we love to do in life and for sure as the inimical chicken said
inimical = hostile. I'm gonna have to consider you a detractor. But you're a funny man. And deep, too.

We recently became aware of the fact that WHITTEN CASES are being manufactured in China using our NAME inside the top and also using our LOGO on the case. The company that is responsible is LONG CHEN CUE CASE FACTORY.

WE WANT TO MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR THAT:
--We did NOT authorize the production of these cases.
--We do NOT approve of the production or distribution of these cases.
--We will NOT be responsible for any repairs of these cases.
--We do NOT have a contract with LONG CHEN CUE CASE FACTORY or any other company in China to produce our case.
We had a one year contract with LONG CHEN CUE CASE FACTORY
which ended in June of 2009. During that year no cue cases were ever approved for distribution or sale. We did not continue the contract because of quality and communication problems.
We want the world to know that LONG CHEN CUE CASE FACTORY is using our NAME and LOGO against our wishes and without our approval.
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD
THANK YOU.
