Iowa and the Dakotas have some very good players. Scott Frost is from Iowa.

Also from Iowa is Jon Kuchero

Anyone who wants to go to St Ignatius, Montana and play "John "Get Back Jack" Madden any game that you can name for any amount that you can count, I'll be there to stake Madden. That would include Scott Frost!

I think its so funny that Shawn considers himself so good when he has ducked and ran several times from an even game with Bruce Berrong. I realize hes done pretty well lately in tournaments , but put up some cash or shut up! I mean come on, someone that fancies himself as a world class player should be able to play someone that never hardly plays and goes out several times a week in an even game.

Do you know if Bruce has any plans on trying to make the IPT or if he sent in
an application? I would like to see Bruce and Shawn play. I just think if BB played as much pool and was around the same guys that SP was around that he would be a super strong play.

I think it's funny how completely OUT OF F'N touch some people are with reality. I can't begin to count all of the threads on this forum that have the topic of making pool a better known, better paid, & more attractive sport than it currently is today. Part of the reason pool is in the gutter is because Joe Q Public has this image of pool being nothing but seedy low life gamblers in pool halls hustling people. The fact that Shawn Putnam ISN'T that is what MAKES HIM A "WORLD CLASS PLAYER". How F'n stupid can you be sometimes not to see this?!?!?!? The majority of the guys on the pro tour (not just Shawn) have done what they can to distance themselves from the seedy, low life, thieving sob's of yesteryear that helped put pool where it is today(great place huh? ). "Shawn considers himself good". LOL, YO MCFLY YOU IN THERE?!?!?!?!?!? What part of winning two UPA tourney's back to back do you find "not good"? How about getting invited to the WPC, the Patriot Cup, sudden death 7 ball on ESPN, THE MOSCONI CUP.... Let me guess.... He was invited to these events because "he CONSIDERS HIMSELF good."   Are you kidding me!?!?!?

People should be happy to see the guys on the pro tour dressing nicely, leaving the venue after tournament play & not sticking around to gamble all night. Believe me, I love to watch action games as much as the next fan of pool but leave that to the people that WANT to do that & don't call out those that don't. Shawn Putnam, and a whole slew of other guys on the tour are doing their best to be professionals and get sponsorship and make the world think better of this sport in general....why is that a bad thing? I don't get it. For every pro that's trying to distance himself from the dark side & clean up the image of the sport, there's got to be a 100 guys out there that don't give two sh!ts about the image or sponsorship or anything else for that matter. Go gamble or try to gamble with them.... there's a plethora of them out there. I don't understand why people are calling these VERY FEW guys out for not gambling or in some cases resulting to shark tactics to win or whatever else it is that some of you insist on claiming about people that you really don't know. Here's a little didya know... I was witness to a conversation this weekend between Shawn & Dave Hemmah. It seems Dave (another heckuva nice guy on the tour) is working on getting a project going in his area where pool will actually be a subject taught in the schools. I heard Shawn tell Dave that he would love to come out there & teach. Who do you think soccer mom is going to want teaching her kids about pool? Guys like Shawn & Dave who dress nice, play the tournament, & then head to the hotel to get some rest after the tourney, or the guy that just spent all night in the pool room gambling with no ambition to do anymore than just that when it comes to pool? hmmmm, bet I can make a pretty good guess at who she's going to want teaching her kid....

I could go on but no one will read it and/or give a sh!t so I'll finish by saying this. A) try having a little respect for the few good guys out there trying to do something right. B) If you or ANYONE else on this board wants to sit in judgement of the pro's or anyone else for that matter, HAVE THE F'n BALLS to sign your REAL NAME to the nonsense that you insist on posting. I notice you had no trouble puting Shawn's name in print... I also noticed that yours was missing. Talk about people with no heart & no gamble.....

Why don't you tell us how you really feel Miss Timberly. Sorry, just kidding with you. I read it all and you made some very valid points. I don't gamble much any more either. There are some people I'll play and there are some people, even if I feel they have no chance to win, I just don't want to mess with. Maybe that's part of the situation with Shawn too. I have seen him play, and I think he's got a lot of talent. Good people are hard to come by in this sport. So more power to him. I'm glad he's man enough to do what feels right to him. Sam

Sam,
I wholeheartedly agree. I am very tired of the usual "Well, he offered to spot Johnny Archer the last 3 for $10,000, and Johnny refused - he must be MUCH better than Johnny." It seems that players are judged often on who turns down their gambling proposals, and this is silly. The good players pick their spots, and pick their opponents. There is a LOT that goes into their choice of when and where they match up - they must consider their safety, their level of fatigue, and their bankroll. I applaud those players with the discretion to choose wisely (many don't).

P.S. - a bunch of local hotshots have endorsed you as a very worthy opponent, your opinion should carry some weight (that Hall of Fame thing isn't too bad either).

Add me to the list of people who endorse Sam not only as a great player, but also as a voice of reason on this forum. Nice to see you back posting regularly.
;)

Thank you both. I've been working out a lot the last few weeks after a slow summer. I find myself ready to play and visit all the friends I made here. It's funny some of the bickering is still going on, but it's different people now. That's what happens when you put a bunch of different opinions together though. For anyone close to Muncie, there's a $2000 GUARENTEED ADDED 9-ball tournament on11/5-6/05. Bar tables. If anyone from Az shows up, let me know who you are. Sam

I don’t know why you guys are raving about this, “Satman”. I tried to buy a satellite system from him and he wanted to charge me extra for driving a mere 1,500 miles, round trip. I told him I would find him some action while he was here but,,,,,,,,,,,NO. He insisted on more money. The guy might play well but I would watch out for the over charging on mileage.

You really are one of the good guys, Sam. Best of luck to ya. You deserve it, my friend.

P.S. Let’s try to keep the e-mails a little cleaner in the future, LOL

Really? Rob Saez should beat Buddy Hall, Mike Sigel and Nick Varner every time? I know none of them are in their prime any more, but they aren't push-overs -- for anyone. :)

Yes, I think Robb SHOULD beat each of them every time. When they were all in their prime NO WAY. Don't get me wrong, I think all of them are legends of pool, and by far some of the best faces in the pool world, especially Buddy Hall. I have spent hours talking to him. Excellent man, and a trip to talk to...but I don't think they all will beat Robb repeatedly. If Robb is on point, and so are they, it would probably be a hell of a match, but I think Robb has the upper hand.

Arnold you agree???

I agree for the most part. Robb is almost there in making a permanent mark on the pro circuit. He has changed and matured over the years that I've known him and great things are gonna happen to him. It's hard to say if he would never have beaten the GREATS in their prime, with equipment changes, and faster clothes, and tighter tables. We can say or argue this in almost all sports.
How about Ali vs. Tyson? Or how about Tiger vs. Nicholas? See what I'm saying? Different equipment, different training methods, different eras. The thing is, it's all speculation. We will never know...
