Who are your top picks to win?

Even though he is already in the final match my pick is:

Mike Sigel.... other than "Capt 'N' Hook

He earned the name Mr. Finalfor a reason......JMHO

Here are my three... Jimmy M notice that Sigel is not in the list ....he has
a good shot at second though ;)

Bustamante -- big stroke ...shot maker...big break
Deuel -- great patterns ..will want to win the first one
Reyes -- always has to be there as a fav ... can get back in line and is
so creative

2 others to watch

John Schmidt -- will dedicate himself to practising and will show up prepared
Buddy Hall -- came through an 8 ball era on the slow nap cloth...still has a big stroke

I expect the UK 8 ball players such as Mick Hill and Darren appleton to do better than many of the famous 9 ball players. They have fantastic 8 ball, big money, slow cloth and even some big ball/table experience.

But looking at last years world 8 ball finals and there snooker background (just kidding ;-) surely Reyes and Manalo will go far.

PS
I'm going to win BOTH the open events! :D

My Heart, I would LOVE to see McCready, Hopkins or Hall

What I predict - Reyes, sometimes he's soft, but that part of his game is getting better every year and I'm not sure you can still say that about him. No question about his shot making skills, he is certainly one of the best if not the best and I sure hope he is out to prove he is the best.

But to all who think Sigel has lost his touch, look out. Sigel will be a serious competitor and has the strongest drive or will to win out of all the players. Even if he starts out on the bottom this time or the following match, he will be in the top 5 most of the year, and I predict he will win 2 tournaments. Of course with the stakes raised I'm hoping others like Hopkins, McCready, Varner, Strickland, etc .. all raise their level of play and really get down to some serious pool competition, I really feel we haven't seen the best of a lot of players for many reasons, and now the level of play will rise to a new level.

Here's my controversial pick...

1stly, I wouldn't go for Darren Appleton or Mick Hill coz they're not in it! But I'll give you 1000-1 The One if you fancy it! :D

In an 8-ball, slow nap, break-from-the-centre tourney, my desert island disc choices are:

Efren (uh really?)
Thorsten Hohmann
Niels Feijen

but my favorite, favorite choice of all is.....

Keith!

Are these all the players?
I wanted to go out on a limb and say someone, but he's not on the list. So, I'll say Marlon "Mint Mylano" Manalo.

T.

Hohmann, Immonen, and Archer are my picks.

The most intriguing player in the field to me is VanDenBerg, the youthful Dutch player for whom very big things were expected but whose came didn't truly come alive until this year. After VanDenBerg came up just one rack short of the semis at the WPC, finishing 5th, I still wanted more validation that he had arrived as one of the elite competitors. His 7th place finish at the US Open seems to suggest he's come of age, but we'll know soon enough.

my goodness this is 8 ball...not 9 ball

top picks to win...

1. Reyes
2. Manalo
3. Sigel
4. Bustamante

I like Efren and Duel. Anybody mention Jimmy Rempe? He's a former 8-ball and Straight champ so he knows patterns, and he's got a heck of a stroke for the slow cloth. Only thing is is he ready to get back on the big stage.

I heard a wild rumor -- and this is only hearsay -- that King James Rempe may be making the trek to Toledo, Ohio to compete in the upcoming Glass City Open, November 8-13, 2005.

The last time I saw him play was in October of 2003 at a Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour event in Upstate New York, Syracuse I think. He ended up beating Karen Corr in the finals, and the pool room [Salt City Billiards] served home-made Italian tortellini soup. Funny the things I remember! :p

The only other time I saw him compete in recent times was at the Trump's Marina 10-Ball Challenge in Atlantic City about 3 years ago. He came in second to Canadian Danny Hewitt.

I think I heard him commentating on a couple of ESPN or ESPN2 pool broadcasts earlier this year, but I can't remember which ones.

It will be nice to see Rempe back in the saddle again in Orlando at the King of the Hill Shootout. Even though I have only seen him play on a couple of occasions, he's still got that special look in his eyes when he's in his zone. He also has a couple of gears to his game which is quite exciting to see unfold, unless you're on the receiving end of it. :p

He's truly a champion to the nth degree! Picture of Hall of Famer King James Rempe taken in October of 2003 at the Joss event!

I predict that Sigel has a flashback and takes the cheese.(At least I'd like to see that)

His opponent will most likely be Efren. Just look at Efren's track record in tournaments the offer big cake. The cream always rises to the top and Efren is unarguably the creme of the crop.

Furthermore, I challenge anyone in the World to play Efren in any game that involves 15 balls. I don't care if I have to rob Fort Knox, I'm putting all my cheese of Efren. After all, he's the only player in the World that I would bet on spotting Cliff Joyner in 1 hole, unarguably the greatest rotation player in the World, and he won his first 14.1 US title at the first US 14.1 tournament he ever played in, the star studded 1995 Maine Event 14.1 Championship. If there's 15 balls on the table, I like Efren every time.

Me too. I hung out with Efren a little while and he would throw out 15 balls anywhere and start with the cueball anywhere so he could see the one, and run the balls in rotation in some of the most amazing runs! He could go 3 rails and squeak the cueball through 2 balls off the 3rd rail to get shape. Very rarely would he even be hooked by even a quarter inch! He is just phenomenal.

Ralf Souquet has to be ranked as one of the favorites.

He holds many 8-ball titles including a few European Championships.

He has also apparently made the final of the German 8-Ball Championships the last 12 years straight!!! A sign of dominance among some world class 8 ballers!

Classic Final

Most Likely, It Will Be Efren Vs Mike. Mike Because He Is Already In The Final And Efren Because Of The Additional Advantage Of Hall Of Famers Which Makes It Easier For Him To Get Into The Final Match.

my fearless prediction for this tourney is efren beating mike sigel in straight sets and running at least a 6 pack.

VanDenBerg certainly has had an excellent year, top eight in the US Open and the WPC is a pretty imressive accomplishment, I would consider these two tournaments to be the toughest of the year. It's ashame he wasn't selected to the Mosconi Cup team.

If they are playing 8 ball I would go with one of the old timers. I'd say Keith has a great shot at winning.

I think that

the tournament will have its share of surprises to it,
with some of the old HOF upsetting some other
current players. For this kind of money, you can
be sure they will be 'fine tuning' their game of
yester year. Perhaps the final rounds of this
tournament might be titled, 'The Clash of the Titans".
