my friend had a similar experience with ted harris a couple of years ago...

since posting this I have received several PM's from others that have been burned ! It is sad that he chooses to do business this way he honestly does good work and doesn't need to be underhanded. Some folks do not realize that being above board goes much further than being shady and low down. I gave him a lot of lee way prior to taking the legal actions I am now unfortunately forced to be a part of the Cue had personal meaning to me since it was won in 1988 at a APA city finals and was my personal favorite The collectors value and the money I gave him for the repairs were secondary

I have recently been through some very trying times both personally and financially due to the deaths of 2 family members so his timing was bad but I am now going to pursue this to the fullest extent that the law allows ! his ex partner has agreed to help me and for that I am very grateful since it will allow me to acquire a warrant for his arrest ! this time he will not get away with his thievery

.....here's some advice. Please don't let the actions of one person ruin your opinion of so many others. There are many super great cuemakers and repair guys out there that I trust immensely. I can tell you from exerience (having had a similar problem before). You'll probably get your cue back at some point. For me it was nearly a year later. In the long run, let your checkbook do the talking [nothing is more powerful than that] and always steer your friends away from trouble like this.

Best of luck.
Sean

A year later? That's a long, stress filled time to be without your cue(s). I would not be a happy camper sitting around waiting in hopes that I'll "probably get your cue back at some point". Ouch.

Tim Scruggs

Tim Scruggs. Back in the eighties, I bought one of his cues from a dealer in St. Louis. I don't remember the name. I had to do some traveling and I left it at home for a few weeks. When I got the opportunity to play with it again I noticed the butt was warped. Not much at first but it continued over the next few weeks. I called the dealer and they said I would have to call Scruggs for any warranty issues. I called him and he said "I do not warranty my cues against anything for any reason."

Over the next year the butt turned into a bananna. This cue was not exposed to any unusual conditions, heat, moisture, etc. And Mr. Scruggs, I hope you hear about this. I am still out here and I still think you are a scumbag.
First of all your beef should have been with the dealer..the guy that sold it to you may have done who knows what to the cue..I suppose you feel that if you sell it and the next guy sells it, Tim should be responsible forever.

Tim has a reputation as being one of the most honorable guys around, as well as being an incredible cuemaker. I have personally bought 8 cues from Tim, and have never recieved anything less than top notch professionalism. Your vulgar statement is totaly uncalled for and jsut plain STUPID.

For his sake I would like to believe that! but he cashed my checked 2 days after it was sent ! He will not return my Cue ! He will not reply to my calls or emails ! Based on those facts I have no other options but to believe he has no intent on giving me my property back ! There is no sensible reason that he could be well enough and alive enough to go to the bank with my check but not well or alive enough to go to UPS with my cue!
I have had problems in the past where I have had personal or business issues cause me to be delayed and could not respond quickly to a customer but I at least communicated with the customer !!!!!!

Mr. Lucky,

Can you send me pics again of your old Palmer, with details, story etc.? I've got a column going on my site and I want to feature your cue in it.

Here's the column:

Just Talkin' Cues (Palmer Collector)

Thanks in adance.

Good luck in this situation. It better not be the Palmer!

I have known Ted for a while now. I have also dealt with him building me a cue that he and I designed. Yes, he is very slow! And a VERY poor communicator. He does not respond to emails and/or calls at all once he gets behind. Probably a little embarrased to say he is not finished or hasn't begun working on your cue. But I will say that he will not steal from you. He is a decent man! I gave him a 50% down payment that was a nice chunk of change. He could not produce the cue in a timely manner for me. I cancelled and did not want it. HE REFUNDED MY MONEY IN FULL, QUICKLY. He was also apologetic that he could not complete the cue for me. His wife has had some health problems too that could prevent him from working as much as he would like. He would not just steal from you! Something else is up.

On a better note....Keith Josey is great a communicator! The best I have dealt with hands down. He replies to emails almost every time in the SAME DAY!

CUEMAKERS.....I know that we the buyers are a pain in the ass! We call all the time...is it done yet? You have to understand....we are excited to see your beautiful new work that we are paying you for! I don't know about anyone else but all I ask is for information about the delivery especially if it changes! How can you not inform someone that the process is delayed? Not good business. Way to go Keith...you get a big thumbs up!

Webb Cues.........

Mike is a fantastic person to deal with as said in many posts before ...........................

Ted Harris

I have met Ted several times. He has always rubbed me the wrong way.
Self righteous, yes. Conceited, yes. A- Hole, sometimes. Thief, NO.
Dishonest, NO.
Decent hard working guy, YES
I am sure there is something going on that we all do not know about. The last post I read of his was when he was looking for an electriction to wire up his new shop. Please don't slam the guy until we know what has happened to him.
Purdman

Mr. Lucky,

There are a lot of people on this board that personally know Ted. I'm one of them and own one of his sneaky pete cues (cocobolo - way pretty). I once experienced what you're going through with a friend that had a collectible Meucci (hey- what's that? - but seriously) that I handed over to Ted at the SBE to have work done on it. It had been over a year and my buddy calls me up panicking because he can't get a hold of Ted, blah, blah, blah. I get a hold of Ted's answering machine and about a month later, I meet up with him at a pool tourney in Philly and get the guy's cue back.

Ted does a lot of work. Okay, maybe he doesn't manage his time too well but he's the one that gets so backed up at the SBE that he works the whole show through without practically sleeping any periods of time. He does great work and personally, he's the only repair person I will let touch my Szamboti should I need an emergency repair and he's one of many available to do it.

He reads this board also so I would try to resolve this personally.

Believe me, I wanted to...but I didn't want to destroy his reputation. Whatever damage he recieves from my feedback or talking about this in public, he deserves. He lied to me twice and ignored me, all he cared about was making the sale. If that bastard has just replaced the shafts like he promised, I would have been happy, but he lied and pretended like he replaced them. I recognized the crappy wood grain pattern on both of them, and they are definately the same shafts. I cant believe he gave me the shaft back that was warped. Argh it makes me mad to think about it, but theres not much more I can do. Supposedly my cue retails at $1800. The quality of wood he used in those shafts would be suitable for an $80 cue, yes it was that poor.
So, you got the shaft, huh? :(

Two words....Kevin Carson.

He agreed to take a cue back...agreed to refund me my money after he received the cue. Agreed to the condition of the cue after her received it and to send me my money back.

Never received a dime from him.

Very dishonest.

Enough said,
Shorty
I didn't get butt-poled like Shorty, but......
