I sometime think people want some of your action and you shouldnt let them.

If you got the $$$ dont make them money...you freakin EARNED it.

Seriously, why would you let them have some of you? I can understand if you dont have it to bet but you always seem to have plenty...

No disrespect in any the above, just wanting to understand your logic.

Situations can get complicated....sometimes the game is made for you.
One time some people were arguing and a game was made involving me....
...I was not even in town.
So they called me and told me the game ($5,000 a game),,,,
...they said we know you like to bet so we're betting $800 for you and you
can take any part of the rest...I had $2,700 on me so I said I'll take $500 extra.
I get $1,300 for every $500 I'm up....not turning it down.
 
You can go ahead and add Rhea Brooks & Gene Albrecht to the list because 99% of the time we are betting our own money.

Absolutely nothing is wrong with that SJ. Could you imagine having to play against a phenom that doesn't care about the stakes? It is just an extension of the beads. Of course the point is that he only cared about beating his opponent into a coma. As for Dennie, he had a nice lady friend that took good care of him.

Sometimes the stakehorse finds, and makes the game. You just show up and play.

Thank you! Here's a guy who knows. Cardone always bet his own! Among the filipinos, I'd pick Alex, Dennis and Francisco as the guys most likely to have their own money on the line.

Shane is the best American today for sure. Wimpy did bet his own money against good players. Harold Worst was another guy who would bet it up with his own cash. He and Wimpy were the "Shanes" of their era. Allan Hopkins bet his own in many big games against strong players. So did Richie Florence. That's a few that I remember. Grady did as well, but his record was not so good like these other guys, who were stone champions.

Yes, I forgot Parica, maybe the best of them all.
 
Yep Kim bet his own money most of the time and Keith and Denny were two of a kind. They didn't care whose money was in there, they just wanted to get it on! Louie Roberts was the same way. He hated to not be in action. Greg Stevens would put it all in action any time he was in the poolroom. Bernie Schwartz was another great money player. These guys were all monsters at one time and so was Toby.

I always played with my own $. Granted I stayed clear of any bar or poolroom that had top players in it. I was a very low level hustler @$5-$20 a game. Anything more than $200 a set with someone even in speed with me, I would get a little case of the bow-wow's. But staying under the radar was easy back in the day...and that's how you made scores. Jack Cooney and Weldon Rogers come to mind quickly. also Denny Searcy. Many would bet their own when they had it.
In our youounfer years games and bets were made by the game and it was easier to get them stuck and parlay our money. They have wised up a lot since then. lol
 
Keith was, as has been written, a person who just wanted to be in action. One Sunday at the big monthly tournament at Hard Times he almost literally ran to the table Efren was playing on and slapped down a grand. Efren forfeited his match and off they went to another table. Both of them laughing and Keith never stopping talking.

Cooney was a warrior.

Hard Times was never as much fun after Mark Betor left. He attracted all of the "roadies" and generated action and fun.
