He's got alot of knowledge & seasoning...You won't be wasting money or time if u got lessons from him..We ran around with him a lil over 10 years ago & made a few lil scores.

Wow! I haven't heard his name mentioned in a long time. I knew him and his wife some 18 years ago when they were in Southern California.

He's a veteran player with a lot of useful knowledge. Lessons from him could be vaulable.

Triple smart pool player. Always was. Please tell him Jay says hello. Buddy could play, right up there with the best hustlers. He won't remember but the first time we met was in a bar. I was beating up the game for a dollar or two a man. Buddy put his quarter up and waited his turn (maybe five or six ahead of him!).

When it got to him, I asked him what he wanted to play for. He said, "I only have tens and twenties in my wallet, is that okay?" I thought I had a real live one here. We played $10 Eight Ball and I won. Pretty quickly everyone else dropped out of the game and I was left with Buddy. He proceeded to beat me four or five games in a row before I got the message. I think he ran out every rack for ten a game. We've been buddies ever since. I even steered him to a few spots.

He's a nice dude. He runs a weekly tournament up there at Grady's pool room. A real gentleman from my encounters with him.

yeah i met him once and he seemed really nice and polite. i just wanted to hear everyones stories about him first before i took on some private lessons.

IIRC, and Jay and Freddie probably know better than me, Buddy Dennis was the original Baltimore Bullet. May have been someone else, but I seem to remember that.

Buddy Dennis is a great player and an honest one. I use to play him one pocket for 20.00 a game 20 years ago. He spotted me three "Advices" per game so when I got in a situtation I didn't know what to do he told me what he would do (and it was an honest answer). Three "advices" per game is a ton of weight and I learned alot about one pocket from him.

You will be hard pressed to find a better teacher also. Buddy Dennis is also a extremly intelligent person. I use to watch Wheel of Fortune with him and he would get the "phrases" quicker than anybody on the show. I asked him how he could figure it out so fast and he said that there were only so many combinations of letters and vowels that you had to reason with. Please tell him Bob Olson said Hi and that I still want my 3 advises per game in One Pocket!

I knew Buddy some 15 or so years ago. He hung around Dallas for the better part of a year if I remember correctly.

He stayed very low key and I never saw him in action, but I could tell by his stroke that he could play.

He and I had many great conversations watching others play. I enjoyed him very much!

He may not remember me, but tell him Royce from 8 Ball Willies in Lewisville TX says hello!

Buddy Dennis was known for awhile as Baltimore Buddy.

I don't thin so. Baltimore buddy I believe was bigger than Dennis. His name might have been Jerry but I might be wrong. I'ts been a long time. Eightballeinstein knows. Maybe he'll clear this up.
Dennis if I remember correctly played with a very soft and smooth stoke. He was an excellent player and I'm sure he is someone worth taking lessons from.

OK, here's the scoop. Buddy Dennis was known as Baltimore Buddy for many years. Baltimore Jerry (can't remember his last name) was another talented player who roamed around SoCal and was a large fella. Both were great players who tried to cash in on California and found out it was tough action.

(I can tell I'm going to go nuts tonight trying to remember Baltimore Jerry's last name. Someone help me out here.)

Thanks for clearing this up Ernie. I knew you would. You're fast becoming the Terry Ardeno of the west coast with all the info.
I did play both of the Baltimores and was fortunate to come up on top. Both were great players back then.

Buddy Dennis

I knew Buddy over 30 years ago and he was by far the best pool player in Balt.MD. He played Mike Segal 9 ball and had no chance but Mike never missed a ball for 2 hours. He is a nice guy and a great one pocket and nine player. His brother still lives in Balt.MD.

Scotty Boggs was better at nine ball, black Nate at one hole. Tell Buddy i'd like to have the $80.00 he owes me from U.S.A. billiards in College Park., "country" Bob

Buddy was the first pool player to hustle me in 1969.
$3 a game at guys and dolls in Suitland MD.

Couldnt beat'em so i joined him..lol.. and his long time partner
Gus Baroutas "the golden greek"
Buddy showed me how to play and Gus showed me how to "hustle "
(how to talk to people, how to clock speeds 'lettem have some shots '
he would tell me, then you know what " pattern " to play).

Buddy was a very good big table 9 ball player....but on a bar table, he was a GREAT player. He barred no human on a bar box. I was in on a lot of his action in the 70's and he rarely lost on a bar box...to anyone.
He beat players like Wade Crain (Billy Johnson ), Grady Mathews, Jim Rempe, Jimmy Mataya..etc.
Buddy was a very good straight pool player...played Bennie on a monthly basis at Jack and Jills.
You will like lessons.

I took a lesson from Buddy Dennis about 10 years ago. I had never had a lesson before and had pretty decent form. Buddy and I played in the same local Maryland weekly tournaments for a few months. After he had beaten me for the 5th time, he asked if I'd be interested in a lesson.

Buddy knew my "problems" from playing against me. He started the lesson by saying there were 3 simple fairly small things that would make me a better player.

1. Position of back hand was inconsistent since I never really looked where I put it
2. Practice stroke pattern in conjunction with where my eyes were focused
3. More attention to follow through

We spent the next 2 hours getting those 3 things right for me. It was a huge help. It moved me from the "seldom cash" to the "usually cash" in the weekly events in the area in just a couple weeks afterwards.

Tell him Andy Lincoln says "hi".

Andy
