Who knows buddy Dennis?

Buddy and I played 9 ball for for several days in N. Charleston, SC about 37 or so years ago. Broke even as neither of us could get more than a game ahead. Thoroughly enjoyed playing him and I think he felt the same.

Buddy is still around. I talk to him every once in a while. He doesn't run tournaments at Grady's anymore. He got F%$ked out of that like everyone else who has dealt with Grady. He comes up to Stixx about every other weekend. His son just played in the last tournament they had. http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100002226073314

Please tell him I say hello. He's an old buddy of mine, one of the good guys! :)

Andam-Cigar Tom match

WERE YOU THERE THAT NITE AT BILL AND BILLIES,when andam gave cigar tom the 7,heres the story, they are playing race to 13 for 1000,tom is winning 9to2,andam and his crew ask tom if he wants to double the bet,so us guys with tom figure that was a no brainer(to us nobody could spot cigar tom the 7 and we had a 9to2 lead)so we all double the bet, then we all set there an amazement, andam did stuff u dont even read about, before we all knew it it was tied at 9all,of couse then tom loses 13to9 and that was the end of that game, set and match, andam is the best gambling pool player that ever pick up a cue in my opionon, things he did that nite can not be duplicated,i dont think vanovers won a match since that nite!

I was with the crew that brought Andam to play Cigar Tom. We heard of Cigar Tom after beating Bobby Chamberlain and steered us to him. I called and spoke to Cigar Tom over the phone and tried to set up the match. He said "Fine, I'll play with him if I can have the 7." I turned around and relayed the conversation to Andam, and he said yep, he got the 7, sight unseen..

So we got to the pool hall, and I started practicing with Andam to warm him up. There were a handful of patrons lounging around while Andam was warming up. In no time at all, the pool hall was jampacked.

Cigar Tom is an excellent player but Andam was better, and you're right, Andam played some shots that you never dreamed of. In closing, though, Cigar Tom was a complete gentleman during the match. He never whined or uttered any excuses during and after the match.

The last time they matched up was in Cigar Tom's pool hall, Running Out Billiards, in Dundalk, suburb of Baltimore.

Powerful stuff. I bet you can count on no fingers, the # of other folks that have given Cigar Tom the 7 in his own room and won.

Back on topic, baltimore buddy is a great pool player, helluva good man,and also a great teacher of pool, and i know he has many, many pool stories that he was part of,the man has been around forever!

Buddy is a world class human, a great legend of the game and MEGA KNOWLEDGABLE! I can't see how the average player wouldn't gain from a lesson with him...

I'm a Columbia SC resident and have spent the last 10 years around him and have never seen him the least bit out of line with anyone. A real straight shooter in both applyable senses

Kevin

oh yeah and Lee Brett is a joke

just wanted to bring this to the top...

ritchie, it's been so many years that I have forgotten some of the facts, too. I think that the match at Running Out Billiards was the last time those two gentlemen played. I should know because I drove Andam and my friends to Dundalk. And yes, at that time Andam shot great and kept playing like at that level and I can tell you that I never booked a loss whenever we put him to action!

buddy dennis

I was privilegded to know " Baltimore Buddy " Dennis well in the late 60's & early 70's. He got to be a strong player about that time. He always was
an easy going & happy go lucky guy. Glad to learn he settled down to enjoying a productive, successful & beneficial family life. I did not know he was teaching the finer points of a game that he excelled in. As others have said, he was a more than a joy to be with and was one of the nicest people both in & out of the pool hall scene. So if anyone can pass on my
best wishes & kind regards to Buddy, I'd very much appreciate that.
from Ocean City Ronnie #2.

yes, i was there for that match. Filipino Mel was one of the men with andam and an old friend of mine. Andam played great pool that nite. Most filipino players have many gears and andam just kicked into high gear. I had seen him play before and after that and he played just good enough to win, every time.

Me and this fellow went to atlanta last year and he and I both going through the winners bracket. He's trying to teach me what to say and not to say, my big mouth ya know. Well it rolls around to about 2 in the morn and he and i both are scheduled to be playing our opponents on the t.v. table. He's playing tommy kennedy and I notice that he is furious and never seen him like that. It's because they put him on that table and ruined his potential games later on or just in his nature ya know. Well, it becomes obvious that he isn't trying anymore and this older fellow sittin next to me says " what is that guys real name ? I've been in atlanta for a long time and I know that stroke anywhere ! " Of course I didnt tell him his real name and shawn puttnam was saying something about this old school guy being nervous on the t.v. table. Well pretty impressive considering his age guys. I want forget these times with a true legend and what Ive learned in a short time. God Bless ya Buddy,

Played Buddy ~1974. Enjoyed his game and his company. Was surprised to learn he is still married to the same gal and even more surprised that she remembered me when he apparently did not. :)

I don't thin so. Baltimore buddy I believe was bigger than Dennis. His name might have been Jerry but I might be wrong. I'ts been a long time. Eightballeinstein knows. Maybe he'll clear this up.
Dennis if I remember correctly played with a very soft and smooth stoke. He was an excellent player and I'm sure he is someone worth taking lessons from.

True enough,,aka, Baltimore Bullit!
