After a long conversation in the pool room last night with one of the regulars about someone who owed him a ton of money, I thought an interesting to start this thread.
Who owes you the most money? Please keep it pool or gambling related, include the story behind why they owe you. I know there are going to be some funny stories. If you don't feel comfortable putting the person's leave it out, make up one, who cares, just submit your story.
I will start with one of mine.
I am a sucker for a pool player and their sad stories of being on the road and running out of money. So here it goes, in 2007 a couple of pool players from Ohio come to Raleigh to try and beat a local sucker out of some money. They don't have a place to stay and since they were fun to hang out with, I let them stay at my house. One of the guys, we will call him Vespa, is driving, very animated and always trying to get in action, decides that he wants to leave after a few days (he got me for $200 for a new tire for his car). The other guy, who I kinda liked, we will call him Jim, says he is going to stay and fly home. Not thinking that this would turn into me paying for him to fly home, I said sure you can stay here. A couple of days go by, he needs to go home, has no money AT ALL, not even any to eat. Begs me to put him in the local tournaments and I pay for his food. I pay for his ticket to fly home, he is supposed to send me the money once he gets there. What a joke that was. After chasing after my money for a couple of months and even paying for an out of town hotel and another flight as well as sending Jim money, his total bill added up to $2,000. He told me I wasn't ever getting my money and to **** off.
Now this wasn't the first time I had been suckered by one of these guys and I admit I am a sucker. I hope that every time I try to help one of these guys I will get paid back for my efforts.
Is it the gambler in them that keeps them from being honest? I bet there aren't many if any pool players that can spell integrity.
It will be great to hear the stories. I have more to add!
