I know of no one who has said he violated any rules, except for rules of ordinary courtesy and good grace.Earl did nothing wrong. He could have responded with ordinary courtesy and good grace, but he wasn't obligated to do so. He's absolutely right: it's not in the rules. Just don't mistake him for a good guy--that's not a requirement, either.

VTEC John, who I quoted, believes he did.He didn't even violate those, she did.
Yeah...Not much chance of that. Just write it of to Earl being Earl.Just don't mistake him for a good guy
In my view, I saw him get blown out by a young girl who then trotted over excitedly to hug him. Instead he chose to be an Earl, got pissy cause she just ran over him. She was just excited and all he had to do was give her a little hug and no one would be even discussing it. She needs to grow up? It’s Earl that needs to grow up. What is she 21? Hell she is a kid.,Who cares.. he did nothing wrong. She needs to grow up. You don’t need to hug people. If he tried to hug her and she turned it down you would be on here ripping earl for being a dirty old man and putting her in that position. When earl messes I’m fine to call him out. He did 0 wrong here. No one has to hug anyone …many or women. He shook her hand. That’s all thats necessary
He still did nothing wrong. No means no EVERYWHEREIn my view, I saw him get blown out by a young girl who then trotted over excitedly to hug him. One thing is sure, she won’t forget Earl or beating him on a big stage.
As for me ripping him if he tried to hug her , that is total BS. Earl has history of being a dick when he losses and that is only going to get worse for him. His best days are in the past. And he had lots of them and was one of the greatest of all time . That we all know.
So you see one Earl and I see another.
Total dick move on matchrooms partWay overblown.
And shame on matchroom for highlighting it with the No Hugs video.
The only thing out of control is all these opinions taking either side. Obviously not much of interest going on right now in the pool world for there to be 150 replies on this thread. After watching the match, Earl congratulated her, fist bumped her and the referee. As she tried to hug Earl, he stated something to the effect: "...you don't want to touch me, I'm bad luck..". Earl handled it like a professional. Now, if Earl tried to hug her and she rejected him, what would you think of Earl Strickland then? Exactly. This has gotten a little out of control.
Remember when the 2003 World Pool Championship “You shut up! Earl had to buy that bouquet of flowers for referee Michaela Tabb? This is the monster who attacked Earl…
I think Earl gets a pass, she should've just walked away when he indicated he wasn't interested in a hug. She didn't, and that's okay but it doesn't make it Earl's fault.
The referee telling her not to take it personally was for what then? Because he behaved like a gentleman and might have just a second to give her a little hug and wished her luck in her next match. He still did nothing wrong. No means no EVERYWHERE

No, instead it was don’t touch. me. Followed by his fist bump and walking away. No wonder she was confused and bewildered. The ref knew it instantly that is why he spoke to her and said what he said.
But it’s ok he is Earl, Kaci was another gifted by Earl’s charming personality after he lost to him. Remember his comments to him??
The ref is who you go to lmao. It wasn’t the proper time or place to ask for a hug. If Earl was her hero and and she really wanted a hug or to talk to him then do it away from the tournament area. Honestly a hug at that point is kinda like rubbing it in that she beat him. I’m not always the nicest guy after losing either, and probably most of us aren’t if we tell the truth. The referee telling her not to take it personally was for what then? Earl saying come see me later away from the tournament and I’ll take a selfie with you would have been good. The correct way to turn down a hug from another player is by offering a picture or selfie moment.
I think that going in for the "hung" is a little forward. Give Earl some time and a doobie and I'm sure he would accommodate her.Just caught the tail end of Earl's match with 21 year old Korean women's player Seo Seoa. She defeated Earl 5-1. After she shook Earl's hand, she went in for the hung and Earl shunned her. She was obviously elated to defeat a legend but should she have been more "professional" or should Earl have been more accommodating?
