Who was the best pool player you ever played in your pool career?

Played Allison Fisher in Dallas at a charity event. I say played, really I broke and then she kicked my ass for awhile.
Again in Dallas, played CJ Wiley at Carson's. Got my butt handed to me again.

Does anyone know where Joe lawrence is now?

Last I heard, Joe is living up in Barrie, Ontario. He still has lots of gamble, but not a lot of takers there.
I played him a few times years ago, and he was always entertaining, whether he was coming a foot and half off the floor when he broke or ripping tips off his cue and muttering.

Back in the day, I played a few of the good Canadian guys, like Cliff Thornburn, Benny Onyschuk, Dwayne Benson, Brad Poorman, etc. I'm not much of a player but I was seriously schooled by Stan Tourangeau, Kevin Cardinal, and John Horsfall.

Luc Salvas let me rack for him, once.

I played Rempe in an exhibition. He lagged sloppy (on purpose) and broke sloppy (on purpose) I ran 28 and slammed a break shot which scattered the balls everywhere but left the cue ball on the head rail. Luckily there was a ball hanging in a corner pocket and I had visions of running 100 and out on Rempe in front of a crowd.

I missed the hanger. Rempe grinned and asked me "are you done?" I didn't know what to say and just kinda looked at him.

"You are done" is what he said and ran out.

100-29.

Jim Rempe was way cool and good for pool.

Played Hawian Brian 3 days worth back in the mid 70's on the end of the match on the 3rd day I was ten games down--I hit him with a ten and we were even--he hit me back with a 10 and I unscrewed--that was before I hit the road and crossed the country back and forth--that was good tutiledge
Best player I ever came up agaist was Wade Crane and there was some more good tutiledge--we were good freinds and still miss not hearing from that one--what times there were back in those days. Played and lost and won with many good players over the short time I was out there 4 years of the road was enough for me--but I still get flashes every once in a while which brings back another great player Irvin (Bill) Lawson--man could he play

Best I played

Tom Cosmo.
Circa early 70s. At this point of his career just a shadow of what he was. I don't believe he was at the top tear of his time but he was pretty good
I think he also participated at Johnston city a number of times.
Now by no means am I comparing him to Willie Mosconi but the players of that era had this smoothness of stroke as hitman22 says
"clean concise hitting"
the way the controlled the table. Guess it was all the years of 14.1 and Talent
Guys like Dallas West, RayMartin Etc were beautiful to watch.
Also played
Tony Robles a game of one pocket I was leading 4-0
And said i say to Tony when I win I am letting the word out I took you down
Quickly i Lost 8-4--- what a great guy and a good Sport Tony Robles is..
Not to forget a champion.

I was fortunate enough to play Steve Mizerak at a local exhibition back in the 90's. I also played the following pros over the years:

Corey Duel
Dee Adkins
Chris Bartram
Janette Lee
Johnny Archer

I bet you had a lot of fun! How many games did you win, and who from? Thanks.
Many Regards,

I've literally played them all from Mosconi and Lassiter to Sigel, Earl and Buddy to Efren and Bustie. Wish I could say I won one match against that crew but alas it wouldn't be true. The best player I ever beat in a tournament match was Jimmy Fusco when he was the reigning Eastern States champion.

I've gambled and beaten a few others but they might not appreciate my saying so. With a spot of course.

With a spot!

Hello Johnnyt,
You played a lot of great people. Very good. I like that.

Good question.

JR Rodgers beat me like a drum once in a tournament, as have Brian Gregg, Brian Groce, Marc Jarvis, and Breedlove. Paul Bowman (peru paul/tall paul) was pretty sporty for a long time, and I'd say he was about the best in his prime that I've played.

Males, Tony Ellin, Justin Miller, Brandon Shuff, Ron Vitello, and Eldridge Tucker.
Female, MARY KENNISTON. I've been her rack boy a couple of times, and she's retired from competition!

Wow!
You even played a member of the Mosconi Cup team USA. Great!

I like all of the good input in this thread. There are a lot of new people on AZB, they might want to see this thread!
