These polls on who would beat who are some of the best threads year in and year out. Remember the Billy Incardona vs Allison Fisher thread?
Anyway, you picked a good match up here. I thought it thru for about 30 seconds before I voted. But it's asking too much to bet against SVB, especially in a long set like you propose.
When Chia Ching Wu won the World 9 Ball Championship and the World 8 Ball Championship, what a force to be reckoned with! But since then, his game has fallen off just a little. The visa problems and the move to Singapore may have caused the drop off and once he gets settled in, maybe he'll get back on track. When the Guinness 9 Ball Tour (formerly the San Miguel Asian 9 Ball Tour) folded, several chances for him to hone his skills against some of the world's elite players faded. Plus, I also believe that he's having trouble living up to everybodies expectations of him now. Jung-Lin Chang and Pin-Yi Ko are right on Yang's heels playing wise. Po-Chen Kuo is another monster player. Wu is still a dominant player, but his aura may have dulled down just a bit.
SVB, on the other hand, seems to have been born and bred to be exactly where he's at right now. How much of his identity is wrapped up in pool?
For him to overcome all that he has had to fade to get where he's at is really amazing. What kind of drive do you think a guy like he has? And to do it while living in South Dakota? That's not a pool mecca. And STILL, he got that good!
I don't see SVB giving up pool for cards or golf. He's what I call a generational player. Somebody who comes around once a generation or so. Think of Strickland. Or Archer. Or Mizerak. Or Lassiter. I think it was Jay Helfert who said it a couple days ago that "40 years from now, people will still be talking about Efren." I think that's how it's going to be with Shane.
