Yea....That just happened

I believe these are two of the top players in the world and they both have many many years of great play ahead of them. I know it's probably a long shot to get these two in the box together but I would like to see what some people's opinions are if they were to play.
I gotta say these are two of my favorite players so it's tough to pick but I think Wu would win maybe 100-96.

I heard from a reliable source that the next person Shane plays (10 ball) in a race to 100is going to get "horse-fu*ked". I concur.

Yang beats both of them. Dennis Orcullo too. Another poll please...:boring2:

LOL. Yeah Shane has no shot. Probably need 20 on the wire :D

News Flash: Shane breaks better than both of them and no one has played more races to 100 than him. I am convinced Dennis is the best 10 Ball money player in the world right now despite losing two exhibitions tp Yang. If they get it on in a pool room where only one guy walks away with money it is going to be Dennis most of the time. That said, to think SVB has no shot in a format he basically invented is silly.

He will play Orcullo one day I am sure so we will get to see if it's boring. Yang also wants to come play when his schedule allows it.

Shane is a buddy of mine and I have been lucky enough to probably see him play as much or more than anyone over the last three years. Before TAR I was usually in on the action. Trust me when I say if he is in action he has a chance to win.

I don't know man. I think his opponent's have watched him play a lot too:D.

Dude, you misunderstood. First of all what you do with TAR is great, just keep it up.

I never said that Shane had no shot, even if he's your friend... I just think that Yang and Orcullo are slightly better, that's all. And no, they don't necessarily have to beat either Shane or Wu, anything can happen.

As for Dennis being better money player than Yang, well, he had two shots at home in Manila and failed. 9ball and 10ball. I don't know about classic pool room environment, but what would happen if he had to play Yang in Taiwan on those tables with extremely small pockets that they use there?

marathon man

Boris Becker said that the fifth set in a tennis match has nothing to do with tennis. In a 100 game race ( maybe 199 games) possibly Lance Armstrong would have a chance. :bow-down:

This ,of course, is coming from an old man who has a hard time playing a
measly 5 straight hours anymore without having 911 on speed dial.:(

Let's stop sitting around and guessing. Let's get this thing set up! This would be a huge matchup unlike anything before. Yang/Orcullo would be a close second though.

If it happens, I'm taking Shane.

I think you're wrong, Shane's break alone pretty much keeps him even money in a long ten ball match with ANYONE, not to mention he's got more experience in these long races and he probably has a better work ethic than any other player out there. And as far as Wu goes that kid has the ability to dominate the pool world for the next few decades the way Mika has the past few years. Yang is one of the best players in the world but he doesn't have to beat either of these two.

Too much talent...too much drive

These polls on who would beat who are some of the best threads year in and year out. Remember the Billy Incardona vs Allison Fisher thread?

Anyway, you picked a good match up here. I thought it thru for about 30 seconds before I voted. But it's asking too much to bet against SVB, especially in a long set like you propose.

When Chia Ching Wu won the World 9 Ball Championship and the World 8 Ball Championship, what a force to be reckoned with! But since then, his game has fallen off just a little. The visa problems and the move to Singapore may have caused the drop off and once he gets settled in, maybe he'll get back on track. When the Guinness 9 Ball Tour (formerly the San Miguel Asian 9 Ball Tour) folded, several chances for him to hone his skills against some of the world's elite players faded. Plus, I also believe that he's having trouble living up to everybodies expectations of him now. Jung-Lin Chang and Pin-Yi Ko are right on Yang's heels playing wise. Po-Chen Kuo is another monster player. Wu is still a dominant player, but his aura may have dulled down just a bit.

SVB, on the other hand, seems to have been born and bred to be exactly where he's at right now. How much of his identity is wrapped up in pool?
For him to overcome all that he has had to fade to get where he's at is really amazing. What kind of drive do you think a guy like he has? And to do it while living in South Dakota? That's not a pool mecca. And STILL, he got that good!

I don't see SVB giving up pool for cards or golf. He's what I call a generational player. Somebody who comes around once a generation or so. Think of Strickland. Or Archer. Or Mizerak. Or Lassiter. I think it was Jay Helfert who said it a couple days ago that "40 years from now, people will still be talking about Efren." I think that's how it's going to be with Shane.

You make some very valid points. I didn't know the Guiness tour folded and since Wu is having trouble getting a visa his game may fall off a bit, BUT if he still has the heart and desire that helped him come from behind to win the world title like that, he'll find a way to keep his game sharp.

I agree with you saying that Shane is a player people will talk about years from now. I've never heard of a player with that much drive and desire to be the best. He has shown time and again why he is one of if not the best players in the world. Sure there are many players close to his level but I can't think of one who flat out enjoy's playing as much as he does.

I think the desire to win displayed by both of these players is why I chose them when I made this poll. Maybe if we're never lucky enough to see this long race between these two we'll get to see them facing off in the finals of a world championship.

Depends on the rules they use to play ten ball. I think if they played break from the box and both can use a jump cue and finally Shane takes that dam mis cuetec and breaks it over his knee, Shane would win Imo.

I know how good shane is when it come to a long race but i cannot under estimate the young kid.He has good break as well.Maybe the experience of Shane will be his advantage but i still vote for Wu to win.

Am I missing something here ? Shane destroyed Dennis at Galveston 15-4. And that is their most recent match if my memory serves me well.

If you're gonna use the "100 race" argument, I believe that Shane has more of those races than Dennis.

uhm, no.

Yang beats both of them. Dennis Orcullo too. Another poll please...:boring2:

SVB is a monster. its not all about the money with him. it seems from watching him, that his drive to beat great players comes from something more. like the desire to be considered the very best. he has that extra gear, that alot of guys do not have. some do, but not all. and i like SVB's chances against anyone racing to 100. NOT that he will always beat EVERYONE...but he ALWAYS has a chance, and with that desire to be known as the best...perhaps an advantage? i think so.
just my opinion.

here's to hoping it wasn't YOUR leg i pissed on in tulsa,
BLS

SVB gets my vote as well....until he has a losing record in these 100 game sets....my $$$ is in his corner...

and I just don't see that happening any time soon!

as far as his playing cue/ jump cue.......dude!....he's getting PAID to use a certain pool cue!.....how many people in the friggin WORLD can say that?! :)

Touche' (LOL) .....

I picked Wu, and would bet on Wu, but this is virtually a pickem match. Both players break awesome and have an unreal top gear that can string a huge number of racks. Wu IMO has a slight edge only on the emotional level, the Taiwanese players are all emotionless machines that don't let anything get to them while in the middle of the match. SVB is an emotional player and if things don't go his way it can sometimes affect his game to the negative. If there is an edge I think it is there and in Wu's favor.

BTW SVB will win this poll in a landslide but if you were to post this on TWB.com (Taiwan Billiards) SVB would lose the poll by a landslide at least equal to the level he wins it here.
