Best Ever

Luther Lassiter. My father played in the same room as him in the early 80's. I believe it was the Golden Cue ( the jersy one) He told me that he was playing lassiter to "warm him up" for a tournament one time, and Luther proceeded to break and run 17 racks on him. He gave his scouts honor that the number was correct, and my fathers a pretty honest guy. I've never heard of anyone doing that, the closest I can come to is Feijen running 15 I think it was a couple years back while practicing. All the hall of famer's that I've ever heard way in on it concur that Lassiter was far and away the best at 9-ball.

Harold Worst

How would you like to have your operation money up, and have to find somebody to beat Harold Worst? If you had Wimpy Lassiter going for you, you would have a good chance for a cure. Anybody else, and you would be in bad shape. The best you could hope for would be a Visitation from St. Mother Cabrini.
Old school pool. Bank on, brother!
(Incidentally, Old school pool and Bank on, brother! have been trademarked by me. You will see them soon on T-shirts available at Derby City.)

Danny Diliberto when I was a kid I remember they use to call him Mr. NineBall he could run with the best of them and proved it many times over.

17 racks ? Wow ! On a 9-footer or bar box ?

For pure power, superb shotmaking and a great break, how can anyone argue with Earl Strickland.

Sure maybe some guys like Lassitter and Feijen have run 17 and 15 racks in a row during practice, however, Earl ran 11 in a row for a million dollars.BIG DIFFFERENCE!!!

Furthermore, Earls game came out when it counts most, in MAJOR Tournaments.
With six world championships and 5 or 6 US Opens, Earl is the Jack NicKlaus/Pete Samprass of nine ball when it comes to MAJORS.

Reyes , Sigel,Lassister and the rest of them were great, great nine ballers, however, when the big tournaments were on the line(for 9 ball) no one comes even remotley close to Earl.

hmmmmmmm......and why hasn't the BCA recognized this and put the guy in the Hall of fame?

IMO you have to look at the majors to rank somebody the greatest and given that Earl certainly stands out. However you also have to take into account Efren because he beat Earl for top dollars over a huge race when they where both in their prime. Also Efren has won the WPC and also I find his 4 US Open finals in a row and also his DCC results astonishing. SO not much to choose from between them both.

I think also it won't be long before we might be saying that young Alex is THE greatest ever. US Open AND WPC Winner and Runner UP in the last few years is an amazing acheivmet, not to mention all his other tounry wins.

As for the old timers I don't really know much about them so can't say.

Eddie Taylor & Jersey Red Said..........

Eddie Taylor and Jersey Red told me personally (one day over lunch) in Shreveport - That Buddy Hall was playing 9-Ball BETTER THAN ANYONE HAS EVER PLAYED THE GAME.

THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!
