We all know in a long race, the Pros kick our ass every day of the week. But if your at the standard where you can break and runout, doesn't matter who your playing, if they can't shoot, they can't win that game.

So who is the best player you have played against (friendly or tournament) and won a frame/game against ?

Buddy Hall in 1976 in Guys and Dolls in Shreveport La. Played 9 ball several times and he helped me along playing cheap. I won a few games as he was teaching me some things.

Earl Strickland in 1981 at Fast Eddies on the East side in Houston we played some for 10 a game and I won tow befroe loosing two hundred dollars. Learned a lot. don's play Earl with no kind of spot.
I had bet a lot on Earl at Cassidies off I-10 west in the early 1980's and like to watch him play and like playing him cheap. great learning experience. Back then I went by Richie..
Percy/ Knifemaker

Two of them

Allison Fisher at USA billiards back around 1993-1994 one a challenge game of 9 ball when she and Grady were touring the country together.

Max Eberle, I lost a double hill 9 ball set at a weekly tourney held at the Shark Club in Fairfax Va. This was in the mid-90's as well.

John Schmidt, several years back we were playing a race to 9 for the cheddar and i won a few racks but not the cheese !!!

I won 9-8 against Ralf Souquet from 2:7 down in European championship 9ball division this year. In fact Ralf never missed a ball but scratched 3 times while breaking, thats why I was able to beat him...I was so pumped-up from that match that I wasnt able to fall asleep 2 nights after that win.. :D :D :D

Mine was 3 games in a row against Charlie Williams at the Predator booth this past May in Vegas.... I broke... ran... broke... ran... broke... then played a great safe, pushing the one up near the nine and freezing the CB behind two balls on the rail. He tried to kick 3 rails and just missed the one.... easy 1-9 combo.

I've played and won some games against quite a few pros over the years but my best result probably was losing 9-7 to Parica in a bar table tournament. I felt about as good as if I had won.

I have had a few but lost each time!
Larry Nevel 9/7
Shannon Daulton 9/8
Wade Crane 9/8
Jennette Lee 11/10

Nevel

I double dipped Larry Nevel in the finals of a local weekly tournament. After the match I told him that I hope he does'nt mind but I'm telling everyone I know about this. He was real cool about it.

In the very first stop of Shannon Daulton's Great Southeast Tour at Mom and Pop Murphy's old dear place in Athens, Georgia. I had the opportunity to play Earl. I was excited but nervous. I think this was in 2001? ish? Anywho, in a race to 7 I actually got 2 games. One he scratched giving me ball in hand on the 9 and the other I vaguely remember getting back to the table and running the past 3 out. There were many peeps watching, I was only one of two or so women in the tourney. I knew I didn't have a shot in hell, but wanted to support Shannon and the Murphy's. Earl was wonderful to me and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to get to know him better over the years.

I was 16 years old living in Miami. I got the pleasure of playing Ewa Mataya while she was doing a demo for a local Brunswick dealer at the Miami Home and Garden show, this was like 1990 or so. I played two games against her, won the 8 ball game and lost the 9 ball game. Still have the signed photo of her with "Great shooting Brian" on it that she gave me afterwards.

I beat Tony Robles in a one game 9 ball challenge exhibition at SBE two years ago. Won a sweet poster!

finished even with Thorsten Hohman playing BB 8 ball at the lucasi booth in vegas...he won the first 2 I won the next 2 then he had to go....

I played Shane Van Boening exactly 1 rack before the Texas Open two years ago. He broke, didn't make a ball and left a perfect layout. I promptly made the 1 and 2 and then completely dogged a straight in 3 ball. Any other even remotely decent player would have run the remainder of the rack...who knows what went wrong.

For me, it was last year at the Derby.. I beat Rodney Morris 3-1 in the banks division.. Next round I drew Efren, that one did not go my way but I did not care.. I got to play 2 world champions in one day, how many of us can say that.. My most thrilling day of billiards in my 41 years..

I also got to play Nick Varner a banks challenge match and beat him 5-0 in one game.. I ran 4 from the break, played safe and then finished.. I would not like my chances in a set but it sure felt good beating another champion.. He is one nice feller too!

I hope I get to play a few more this year, hopefully in the later rounds this time.

Best Player

I beat Billy Palmer in the finals of a small local tourney (48 players) a few years ago. I was super nervous and couldn't give myself a decent leave to save my life. But somehow I kept managing to pocket balls.

I also beat Phil Sardo up in Reno one year (I don't think he's a pro but semi~famous at least). He had me 4-7 and I came back to tie it up... then sank the 9 on the break to win! Not the way I like finishing a match but I'll take it!

Definitely a rush. Wish we had more pros out here in Northern Cali.
