Is Gene the best playing instructor at this time? It would be nice to see video of everyone who teaches for a living playing. I know there are some who think a D player can teach, but I disagree. You can't teach what you don't know. Anyone have video of instructors playing?

Names that come to mind are Stan Shuffet, Tony Robles and Mark Wilson, all three of them fine instructors and players.

I think it would be hard to say at this time. There are a bunch of people teaching who can play. Also, playing at what degree, competing in pro events, regional, local?

Toss up between Max and Tony, not sure who wins but it would be cool to see them match up. Next TAR match maybe? :)

Let's have a tournament and each instructor can put up $2000. and play a round robin, that would be interesting. Straight pool, 9 Ball and one pocket. Someone can come up with a format and "instuctor qualifications" that are fair for everyone.

This would be interesting as a "change of pace" from the normal tournaments. We could get at least 8 players/instructors involved I would think.

I know some pool rooms that would like to host and I'll pitch in 2 Dimes to get some much needed tournament play. I've been on the insructional routine for so long it would be great to play again under pressure.

Translation......it's not me:eek:

Maybe, but Scott Lee is a professional instructor and an amateur player, while many of the professional players out there who call themselves instructors, are only amateurs when it comes to teaching.

These days, there are a couple of available organizations that certify instructors. Sure the programs are not that difficult to get into, but they have levels of advancement that are not at all easy to reach. Becoming a Master level instructor is probably as difficult as becoming a top-ten professional player.

In answer to the OP's question, however, I think Mark Wilson and Fran Crimi are the only two people who have not only played professionally, but have also reached high levels of instructional certification.

I couldn't pick just one so I would say Marty Herman or John Barton. Both have been around a long time and know it all when it comes to pool.Dont take my word for it just ask either of them.Im sure a pool lesson would be around $100.00 from most instructors anywhere.

Get it going there CJ. I'm in.......

I might even get off the road and practice for something like that.

I think they call it getting in stroke. Nothing like the road and teaching to wear you out and your game.

Got to go do a lesson. Imagine that.

I wonder what is the most pool lessons given by one teacher in a few years?

Add one more to the list:rolleyes::rotflmao1:

Wow, you have CJ willing to put up 2000 added money. Maybe it could be a handicap tournament, like pro, AA, A, B and C players. I've noticed that many instructors claim most good players are bad teachers. Who are these instructors who play top speed that are bad teachers?

CJ Would be considered instructor/player.
My money is on CJ, unless he is over qualified. I would think Gene would get in the box. Theses are 2 monster player/instructors

Yeah, I noticed most of the top golf instructors were HOF Golfers. Wait a minute, now that I think about it, I can't name a single famous instructor that even played on the PGA Tour.

Once again, I firmly believe the vast majority of the professionals in any sport are Savants. You can't teach what they have since God gave it to them. Pretty hard for them to relate to Joe Sixpack and attempt to teach them at the level that is needed to be effective.

I think (not sure) there may be a notable exception. Perhaps a rising star who isn't that far from being ready to play professionally may benefit more from some teaching from the right professional.

Great idea. Why don't you post a link to this thread in the 'Ask an Instructor' forum, just in case they [ahem] don't see this one.
