Who's the best TV pool commentator

Danny DiLiberto is hilarious in some of the matches he commentates. Especially if he is working with Incardona

I believe I'm the "ONLY" person that has mentioned Bill "Weenie Beenie" Staton...

I watch only OnePocket dvd's but Bill knew the shot 99% of the time... He never tried to "out do" his fellow commentator and he had a great voice...

Am I really the ONLY person that really enjoys listening to "Weenie Beenie" call a match?

Nope.................................

Lets ALL vote for next U.S. Open to bring bad the good ol' combination

(Billy Incardona + Grady Mathews)

the commentating that they bring is so fun to listen to, and their controversy at times is just beautiful and lovely.

gogo email accu-stats if you agree ;)

Bob Guerrero

I agree! Sid is true words smith you never knew what he was going to say!! He also did a lot of matches with Jay Helfert and steve davis aswell! he was at his best when he did the mosconi, very loud and enthusiastic for what was going on, he commentated untill 2003 I thnk that was his last year.

I've heard earl commentate on a match before. he was also very good.

For hilarity (if that's a word?), you can't beat Sid Waddell. Another one who comes out with hilarious phrases and expressions, is the Filipino pool announcer and commentator, Bob Guerrero. He's also worked with Jerry Forsyth (no ending "e", ok JAM? :D ) on many international pool events.

Some of Bob's crazy analogies:

"Look at where the red 3-ball is! It's doing some heavy-petting with that 7-ball!" (Referring to a 3-7 cluster by the side pocket right after the break of this rack in this Alex-vs-Efren match: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RltFDJ_FO5E )

"He's going to try to break up the coffee clatch that the 4 and 7 are having." (referring, again, to a cluster of balls -- can't find the video link at the moment)

...and on and on. If you watch any match commentated by Bob Guerrero, you'll hear some very interesting (and funny!) analogies!

At the end when he says Ales's has 2 chances, slim and none.:D That was funny.

+ toss in an actor or athlete that loves pool and...............it might be more interesting for the viewers and the industry as a whole.

hmmm

There are many good ones. I think the problem is that some don't work or complement each other well. I personally don't like when two "experts" have to sit there are disagree about shot selection, and this and that.

One guy should do the commentary and other should be the color guy. Thus, the two never are tripping over each other tyring to get their point of view across.

I just watched the 1P finals from 2010 between Frost and Ochoa. Ochoa was shooting some tough shots and sinkng them pretty well. Then he suddenly lost his stroke, and missed some shots. Not hangars, but certainly very makable for his caliber and most good amatuers. And the balls were not "rattling" since he was missing them by a 1/2 diamond or more.

Neither one of them mentioned his stroke was completely failing him from there on out. It was so bad that I replayed it in slo motion just to make sure I saw what I think I saw. He was "poking" and not stroking and it was not pretty. They spent too much time saying he "dogged" it or arguing about the shot selection, etc. etc. Not to mention neither one ever knew what the score was. I mean, geez, just keep some pennies in front of you or something to keep track.

I like both announcers but they need to work more in tandem to really give the viewers a sense of what is going on. JMHO...

I think I was vaguely aware of this....thanx for putting it in words.
This is why I like Jim Wych or Sid Waddel as one half of the team.....
..I think they work well with other players...also Jerry Forsyth.

I like the Incardone/Dilberto hook-up..all those road miles make them
comfortable with each other...and I like the way Grady can crack Buddy
up.
..but, yeah..if they agree who is going to lead...it would work better.

ps
..I'd love to see Jay and Joey commentate together...
..they'd be digging and challenging each other and it would be hilarious.

Geez, I can't believe he doesn't toot his own horn.

Jay is a super commentator in a pool match anywhere in the World.
