Who's the best TV pool commentator

My 2 Cents...

In no particular Order....

Jim Wych
Jerry Forsyth
Jay Helfert
Danny Diliberto

Also

John Schmidt and Jeremy Jones are great pro's that sound right at home in the booth.

Honourable Mention to myself doing one pocket commentary at Derby this year without fully knowing the rules.....lol.

I really like Rempe, Incardona and Grady. I've probably learned more from these three than all the others combined. Another guy who gave me a fantastic first impression is Jeremy Jones, but I've only heard him in one or two matches from the Galveston Tournament a couple years back.

a combination of

Billy Incardona + Grady Mathews

both knowledgeable, you will learn alot from them, and their controversy sometimes makes it even more exciting for my viewing pleasure.

Other favorites are;

Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, Johnny Archer.

Cardone is the best. It's hard to argue. All of the great players have such great excecution, sometimes it's tough to know who you can listen to because to me some of the shot selections are wacky. I especially think diliberto throws out some horrible shots when he commentates. Cardone is always on the money.... he is just more consistently taking the best percentages in my book. For me though there are only two at the top... cardone and buddy.

Billy Incardona+Danny DiLiberto=Articulate+Common Sense+Knowledge+Humor+Work Well Together=The Best

....or, Mark Wilson By Himself.

There R many folks to choose from. Jay's really good as well. Although I rarely get the chance to hear him call a match, living in the PI as I do. My point is it's hard to "desribe" how much I've learned from top-notch commentators. It's like a free lesson. IF U pay attention?

In addition to my vote for Jim Rempe, I have to agree with JAM -- the combination of Sid Waddell and Jerry Forsythe just has that magic chemistry that flows through to anyone listening. They play against each other well. And it seems Jerry's straight-laced nature seems to really pull the hilarious one-liners out of Sid!

I agree! Sid is true words smith you never knew what he was going to say!! He also did a lot of matches with Jay Helfert and steve davis aswell! he was at his best when he did the mosconi, very loud and enthusiastic for what was going on, he commentated untill 2003 I thnk that was his last year.

I've heard earl commentate on a match before. he was also very good.

What I find interesting about most responses is they are from pool players, not Non pool players. Maybe all this learning and instruction and such are NOT the way to go for the general public, who we need to get hooked on our sport and in turn help the pros and the mfg. Yes I do like Billy I., my favorite is Rempe, but I'm a player, and I wonder if a ball banger or someone that's never picked up a cue at home feels the same way about their commentary or do they even find it interesting? Personally the picks we have chosen here are good color commentators But one thing for sure, they are NOT professional TV front men, that's one thing we need for sure, but the money is NOT there to get a professional TV commentator. I always think back to the Camel Pro Tour and two things come to mind, I think it was Tommy? a true professional TV announcer that was in the booth and he did a good job of announcing while working with a pool player, also a great commercial came from the Camel Tour, where an actual pro player is down on their shot, and his Opponnent body checks him and takes his shot, I loved it.

I like all your above choices. I guess no one but me likes Mike 'the Mouth' Sigel announcing?

I've always said this, they should get Earl Strickland and Alex Pagulayan to commentate. It would be hilarious.

It has to be Danny DiLiberto with Mark Wilson.

Danny is the only guy we quote as we play bank pool...

"I think he can stiffen this one."

"That's in the pocket...Oh no! I guess it was a bit short."

"He sold out."

"When we have players of this caliber, they're supposed to make those."

"I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 and out here."

At least an "Hornorable Mention"..."BEARD"

How about Freddie "The Beard" Bentivegna. I know I am biased because Freddie is from my home town Chicago, so I know everybody he makes reference to while doing commentary but...you have to admit Freddie is pretty good and FUNNY

There are lots. Mark and Billy I. are right up there. At the other end of the spectrum is that fella whose initials are A.H.
