Who's the most popular cue maker still making cues

I would try Joe Callaluca. He is close by just over the line in NH. I am in MA myself and have had 5 of Joe's cues as well as many others. He will work with you (as many of the makers already suggested) and make one to your specs. He makes great playing cues. You will like what you get. Feel free to PM me if you would like to get in touch with him. I can meet you maybe in Ayer and you can hit with one of my cues from Joe if you would like. I haven't played in a few years, but check in here to see what's going on and would be happy to help.

Good Luck

i am already working with joe callaluca i have a shaft made by him. he does awesome work and really isa stand up guy.

I guess I didn't word it right. Not so much the best but I guess in the highest demand someone known for making the best playing cue. Not for collection but shooting a players cue 500-1000 dollar range.

In that price range, you have a lot of options. And of course, everyone will give you their own opinion. That won't really help you much. I'd suggest to stick to local cue builders like Mike Webb and Joe Callaluca.

^^^^THIS^^^^^

Both great guys and great builders.

OP - If you have an unlimited amount of money and an unlimited amount of time and an unlimited amount of patience and an unlimited amount of unlimitedness, well.... maybe.... juuuuust maybe we can do some business.

Get a McDermott. End of story.
Best cue for the money for over 4 decades. Name another cue maker, custom or not that can come within a decade of that record.

McDermott... cheap, good, made in the USA and you can get as many as you want right now.

+1 to this guy

We have been making cues for 50 years and have learned a thing or two. Lots of beautiful options in that price range and can be customized to your liking. We don't cut corners. With the exception of the rubber bumper and weight bolt... every part of our cues are designed and fabricated in our shop from scratch.....and have a lifetime no warp warranty. Quality, craftsmanship, balance and durability....all good stuff!

That is interesting. 30 or so answers and not one of them is one that I would say. My answer would be based on the fact that I know I would want a stiff hitting big pin wood to wood joint cue (unless it was a lambros). That alone helps me narrow the field. Granted any decent cue maker and make that even if it is not their forte, but why go that route. Once my list is narrowed and I had a $1,000 max I would be looking for a used cue. If new was a must I might say Darrin Hill, Wes Hunter, a sneaky from mike bender, mike durbin or blackcreek.
If I liked steel jointed cues I would get cuesblue's steve klein. lol

If you're looking for a playing cue, Steve Lomax is my recommendation. He doesn't have a 'years' type of waiting list. He can probably have it done for you in months instead. He's good, well respected and can make you anything you want. He's also reasonable with his pricing and he answers the phone if he's in the shop, which he usually is, unless he's away at a tournament or show a few times a year.

If time is no concern, and you want to throw money around, try someone like Joel Hercek. His cues are works of art. Don't believe I'd ever actually play with one, even if I could afford it. They're just too amazing to do anything other than collect in my opinion.

Hard to beat

Ginacue
Schick
Szamboti

of the newer class

Searing
Barenbrugge
Hercek

All very desirable and sought after, now good luck getting them

I'd have to say Steve Lomax for the fact that his pricing is very reasonable, the quality of construction on any of his cues to include his playing cues, jump/break cues, jump cues or break cues is flawless and the wait time is considerably less than most

For a great player in the price range you mentioned, I'd recommend Cory Barnhart. Do a search on "Barnhart" to see some pics and reviews.

in my opinion there are 3 types of cues!

Steel joints/ Wood to Wood/ Ivory

steel joint= Bob Fry is best for the money! Black boar is expensive and #1
Wood to Wood= Capone is best! Southwest is too long a wait!
Ivory joint= Bob Fry

Plus, The above have never had any bad issues with customer services and all been in business over 10 years! Capone is hard to reach at times. But, man of his word!

i shot with Ted Harris cues. He learned and trained with Capone and others. Rather OCD type cue maker and it shows in his product. great reviews and seldom sold on here. Best of luck
