whose playing style do you like most?

Players whose style I can relate to... let's see...

Neils Feijen --- pre-shot routine and heart

Gabe Owen --- like his patterns

Buddy Hall --- like his stroke (although Mizerak's is probably the most beautiful) and patterns

Souquet --- consistency and pace of play

Varner --- safeties, two-ways, overall control of the table

I also like Archer's and Corey Deuel's standing address.

There are others, and please don't ask me to pick one. I sort of borrow from whatever player I like. Mostly methodical players. I really can't relate to any Filipino player with the possible exception of Parica. And I definitely couldn't even dream about mimicking Earl's or Sigel's style.

Heh, I feel embarrassed for not saying Max now. D'oh!

For overall "style" of game.

Max Eberle..

I just like his whole demeaner while shooting....and in between shots...He's got "flow"

I like Oliver Ortmann for his ultra aggressive style, he hits everything with ALOT of authority and certainly isn't scared to take on more difficult shots that other players would opt to play safe on.

I agree. I like him for precisely the same reason, and I'm happy to see him mentioned in this thread.

Not to joke or appear as a braggart, but I like my own style the best, when I'm in form, flowing and focused.

Isn't that what we are trying to achieve in our own games? The style that we prefer ourselves!

Granted, hitting that zone is not common for me these days, but when I do, that is the style of play I prefer. I could watch me for hours playing in that zone :p

I suspect some of you feel the same way about your own style.

IMHO, there are three players whose style stand far above all the rest.

1. Efren Reyes
2. Efren Reyes
3. Efren Reyes

.... the perfect blend of power, creativity, and innovation. Efren's wizardry over the glorious green felt has broadened the horizons of the game itself.

As for the women, I find Karen Corr's style to be the most interesting. Over and above her fine runout skills, Karen, in my view, uses defense, kicking and two-way shots to greater advantage than any player in WPBA history. She has ridden that style to many a WPBA title, and is certainly a future hall of famer.

Scott Frost is a great player to watch due to the extreme intensity. John Schmidt when he is on also makes the game look really easy always playing the right angles and splitting the heart.

Neither are the best but then this thread did not ask who the best was and I wonder if some people missed that... Alot of the top players dont have interesting styles and their styles are not what make them fun to watch so much as their talent.

How could anyone say Nick Varner....don't get me wrong he is one of the top 10 greatest players of all time, but he is just so damn slow.

Efren's style is the best...form, rythm, composure etc.

If I may sabotage this post, the 2 that absolutely
DRIVE ME NUTS are Johnny Archer and George
Breedlove. I'd rather watch paint dry. To me
they are much more painful to watch than
Kid Delicious.

I'll counter that, and say the player I like to see the least is Raj Hundal. He's just too careless. Luc Salvas shoots faster but at least he can pull it off...

There are so many but, what about Busty? he is so smooth that his nickname should be Silky, and there is always my tutor ,The Knoxville Bear.

Favorite style:

The "Miz"...the "Master"...Steve Mizerak. Most beautiful stroke I've ever seen.

I also REALLY like Alex Pagulyan's style. What a talent!

When I first started playing, I couldn't see the difference in people's styles. I remember Bustamante's style annoyed me and I like Fong Pang Chao. Then I reversed, and REALLY digged Busta's stroke, even started copying it a bit.

Since then I've learned alot about the game, and my favorite styles are definitely Corey Deuel and Mika Immonen. Their games are truly amazing, they have good rhythm at the table, and their fundamentals are flawless. If you look at Efren head on, you can see that his alignment is slightly off (elbow inside, cocked wrist), not that it hurts his game. But Corey and Mika are just the models for perfect stroke and fundamentals, and they ahve style.

He's the most aggressive player I've ever seen, I can't tell you how many times I've seen his opponents push leaving only safety options and Oliver walk up to the table study the shot briefly and kick the OB in with shape for his next shot and run out. I'll never forget his match in the 2004 WPC with Reyes when he ran a six pack kicking in 4 or 5 balls during the run, afterwards Reyes commented he was amazed at some of the kick's Oliver made, this is Efren talking about kicks....
