Why do players say "I made a impossible cutshot to win"?

If you made it,it was possible.

I gotta know hundreds of players who have" given up the nuts".......
....and won

Who are they kidding? You either got a good game or a bad game

Come on PT, ya know that's not necessarily true. How many times have we all scene someone in a HORRIBLE game and still won because opponent dogged their brains out or whatever.

As to impossible, pretty sure everyone realizes that is often used in pool when talking about an extremely low % shot. With that said, it is often overused by many folks.

For some people, less than 1 in 20 equals impossible. Then there are the theoretically impossible shots that are possible if you know a better theory, like the 93-degree cut shot or Vernon Elliott's "impossible" bank. And for people who don't know about throw, their opponent is apt to make an "impossible" combination.

I think this thread about impossibilities deserves a quote of mine from ages ago.....

Anyone who doesn't believe in miracles....has never played pool.

There are makable impossible cut shots. Like putting a ball against the end rail on the middle diamond and making it with the cueball at center table. The cut is impossible, but it can easily be made by kicking it in with left or right (depending on which pocket you want it to go in) Looks like a cut but it aint.

Lots of shots in pool that "should" be impossible but are far from it. When you know how to take advantage of throw and or any kind of english transfer you can do many things that should never be. For example making a foot spotted ball in either corner when another ball is spotted right behind it. Should not be able to do that, but it's easy(ish) when you know how.

Gave a guy the break and 2-3-4-5-6 at six-ball....guy breaks like a homo...
...everybody at the hall said i gave up the nuts....
...the guy never won a game....it's harder to make a ball on the break at six-ball.

Maybe it looked like it was over 90 degrees and they had to use spin to make the ball? Just a guess

Overstatement. Commonly used in speech and writing out of desire by speaker/.author to heighten a reaction, it usually causes the listener to feel a sense of disbelief...and have a decreased reaction.

I like the the players that say ( i just left you a safe on the PRO side) then i just drill the shot and make like it was nothing.

Quite similar to hyperbole, actually, which has nothing to do with shaft nor butt taper:)

The answer is easy. The player thought the shot was impossible before he made it. He still remembers it in his mind as being impossible.

Fran, and Spartan, are correct.
We are all capable of great and wondrous things. At least we think we are.

Only with a cue from steamer cuesports ;)

You flatter me, sir, but of course you're right. A person does play his, or her, or it's best with a cue from Steamer Cue Sports Ltd.
Our Wonder model is a cue that is designed for players of all ages, and is gender non-specific.
Our Miracle cue, on the other hand, is engineered for the more discerning player who, on occasion, may want to shoot around a corner.
