Why does it seem that I play better w a House Cue than my 2 own personal cue?

A good house cue is a super good cue.
I dare any cue maker to make one of their fancy multy-thousand dollar cues hit better.
It would be very difficult. And we're talking....what a 50 dollar cue?
I say that and I personally own quite a few cues that are in the 2 to 5k range.
House cues are stiff and you feel everything.
VERY!!!!!!!! opposite of these hundreds of dollars bs LD shafts that so many people
think they play better with and come on here and swear by them.
Mostly just an attempt to make themselves feel better for having spent 300 dollars for a shaft.
(yes I have several of those too)
Unlike what someone said not all house cues are 13mm. Not by a long shot.
House cues are hard to beat. Really hard.

The whole reason for two piece cues was portability, and that's a fact Jack!
Winner winner chicken dinner!I have my own twisted theory about this. LOL .... With an unfamiliar cue, your attention (conscious thoughts) are occupied by the specifics of playing with that cue and don't get as much opportunity to try to figure out how to miss.

Not a house cue, but I played a game or two with a straight old Viking I picked up for $10, and I played way better with it than I do with my old Meucci I've been playing with for like a year.
Not sure if it's because I'm better a less whippy shaft (but the Meucci's thinner 12mm shaft FEELS better in my hand than the Viking's 13mm shaft does), because I'm better with a metal joint, because the Viking's front-heavy weight distribution is better for me even though it feels weird, or because I'm actually thinking about what I'm doing with my hand, rather than just doing it, and overthinking the rest of the shot. I hope it's the latter.

My guess...you assume a house cue cannot do what your personal cue can do, so you try less fancy stuff...less english, probably play more centerball. Try limiting the fancy crazy stuff the next time you shoot with your personal cues, bet the results are about the same if you can mentally divorce yourself from playing with it like you own it and it will actually do what you tell it to regardless of difficulty...haha

The house cue might be a better cue then the fury .
IMO one piece should be a better hitting cue , only issue is you cant keep one straight.
A two piece cue was invented to be carried around , other then that its made to mimic a one piece house cue .in hit and or performance .
I am a firm believer that allot of one piece house cues play better or have better hit then most mid level imports .
The house cue might be a better cue then the fury .

What about a 2 piece cue being made similar to a snooker cue )with a longer shaft?). Or is this opening a can of worms for getting the weight/balance right?
Lots of reasons abide. Wood is wood & none of it is duplicated, same for a leather tip, It is leather.
"Similar" does not have the same meaning as "same". Humans are not the "same".
When you are paired up with a cue, that feels good, has a good leather tip on it & it plays well, you might play better. Change that combination up & the result may vary.
A higher skilled, different person might choose the same cue or a different cue & play better.

"House Cue" is a very generic term. A one piece cue that you pick up in a local back-woods bar with a slide on tip is NOT the same as a good house cue you find at a decent billiards hall.
Now: It costs money to cut wood, build joints and pins etc. A good one piece cue might run you $80 ... but when you start adding all the fancy stuff of a two piece cue .... maybe $200 min. for something decent.?
If you found something you really like - see if you can buy it.
If you don't like what you have - sell it, and put the money towards something you DO like.

Often it's because you resort to basic shots/position and cueing. By doing this you Simplify your game, and cut down cueing errors. Less is more in pool that's for sure.
