Why music players are banned in most tourneys?

Does anyone know why music headphones are banned in most tourneys? I mean, I think they may limit the size of the headphones, but why they ban them completely? I have a lot more concentration when I listen to the music I like and it helps me to focus more.

Most like to rule out any chance of outside coaching/communication. A lot of music players are phones too.

Yeah because when I put my Barry Manilow and John Denver playlist on I can't miss a ball. Wouldn't be fair for the competition.

Lol

I know a lot of people that play better with headphones, but rules are rules I guess.

I agree this is lame but I understand why it needs to be against the rules. Wired or wireless doesn't make a difference. Every player would need to be checked to make sure it isn't a phone. On top of that a Apple MP3 player look almost exactly like the iPhone.

This and the fact that it can lead to communication problems between 2 players. Example, if my opponent was on 2 fouls and I can't get his attention because he can't hear me.

I have seen it happen and I can understand why people don't like it. Personally I don't mind either way.

Oh Mandy!!!....

I think there should be an inspection for the devices, and list some devices that you may use. i.e. Ipods nano, Micro mp3 Players and stuff like that.

This is a Sport

Pool is a great sport and we should treat it as such. In no other sport do you see this behavior. If we want our sport to grow we should start treating it with the dignity it deserves!

The best answer EVER!

No more music for my ears.:frown:

If there was a way to ban sharking I would agree with banning headphones. I don't use them but I understand why some people do.

This is a good point but what about a situation where somebody drops $10 in the jukebox and picks a bunch of shitty music?

Until they ban loud drunks and crap music from the jukebox then players should be allowed to use them. I can play with or without but I do like to have the option to use them when the background noise is difficult to block out.

As far as communication issues I never have any. I always make eye contact when after each 1/2 inning and push outs. I know when I'm on 2 and I make sure to look the player in the eye when telling them they are on 2.

I knew a guy who used to wear foam ear plugs while playing in tournaments. They did a decent job of blocking out all the chatter and young people music coming over the sound system. This would be a reasonable alternative if you were just trying to block something out rather than needing your music pumped into your head. That is, if they are legal these days.

I think it's disrespectful to your opponent.

It's sort of like the guy in front of you at the convenience store that has such a busy and important life that they can't get off the phone while he is checking out. They don't even notice the cashier. Or the guy in the drive thru that can't get off the phone long enough to even make eye contact with the cashier.

Life is short. Why not give these people a bit of your precious time and respect? Something interesting may just come out of this human interaction.

I've always considered the risk of drunks and bad music to be part of the atmosphere. I've always found it more difficult to play in a "sterile" clean and quiet environment. Unless it's head-ache inducing shitty rap, the bad music almost helps. It forces me to focus more on the shots I'm taking to block out the music. :) I figure all those distractions will eventually make me a better player - at least with the mental part of the game.

Like excessive showboating in football, or baseball or basketball or..........

But you are right, we need to treat our sport with the respect it deserves. Showing good sportsmanship would be a nice start.

Truth is all sports have evolved (or should I say devolved) into a bastardized version of what used to be something a person could take pride in. People are to blame, we tend to think to much of ourselves and care to little for the sports we enjoy to give back to it.

Thanks
