Why Shanelle should be given a chance?

That's funny. Five minutes ago I quoted that post and typed "What are you, 12?" and then decided not to hit send.

I don't know. If he was an online gamer (assuming "guild" is referring to World of Warcraft), he might have said "pwned". :D

To add to that Jay, I have a credo that I've tried real hard to live by...

Funny you should bring that up Dick. When I was a student at Oklahoma U. we had a vicious thunderstorm one night, and everyone was in a gloomy mood. On a dare I took off ALL my clothes and ran naked up and down the street outside, in front of God and everybody. It felt great! And liberating. That definitely livened things up that night.

Years later my daughter was having her 16th birthday party at our house in Venice, and it was raining. Every one was in a pissy mood once more. So I told the kids the story about my college escapades. Some of them dared me to do it again. This time I stripped down to my undies and ran out into the rain. Pretty soon a few of the guys joined me outside. They still talk about Heather's crazy dad down in Venice.

Please "outer space".....I'm located on the sunny and great state/island of Hawaii, thank you, come and visit anytime and talk to me face-to-face anout ANY of your "issues" you might have.....respect is earned in many different ways and forms, obviously you weren't raised right, and obviously you can't read either because my first post was clear and CONCISE. You just choose to nit-pick and try and stir up a fight.

As a "player" it is obvious respect is earned....you must not be a player if you STILL can't understand this.:withstupid: :scratchhead:

"Peas in a pod" ...hmm....um....yeah.....whatever to whatever you are trying to imply:rolleyes: *pointless* Again r-e-a-d p-o-s-t Marissa and I have had our differences/arguements.

And implying i eat puppies - you ARE OFF!!! I'm an American, who happens to be of Filipino and Korean descent. But you can go on your stereotypical/racist rant because you're on a computer, try it in person "big" guy - here in Hawaii we are actually pretty forgiving about that stuff....but you are the very one who said people deserve respect unless their actions prove otherwise........funny I never thought you were talking about yourself......such a kook (as we would say here in Hawaii)....so not worth my time anymore....see yah:kma:
If you would look below the A$$ you are kissings name [marissa] you would see that she has- puppy eating hypocrite -under it . Not a racist. Get a clue. Are you threatening me now?

Cuebacca...you're cool...like your post....always did. Glad there are some people I can converse with on an "adult" and "open-minded" yet humorous level:smile:

TO MAKE IT CLEAR SINCE JASONLAUS HAS A HARD TIME READING > I know nothing of the Austin-bashing "thing"

so stop basing your opinions on a controversy that I was neither a part of or aware of

I've said that Marissa and I have butt-heads before over previous issues - I am keeping my opinion focused on THIS thread.....I can argue and disagree with Marissa on other threads if it comes down to it. But my comments/opinions/beliefs are based from what I said I in my first post - I read this thread beginning to end before I even decided to add an opinion/post.

Since you can't understand english I will try one more time. Nevermind ignorance is bliss.

You're one neuron short of a synapse. Your analogy makes no sense. Here's an adequate analogy for you: Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner.

ah, now you are making an analogy about cameras. so if you buy a pool cue, it doesnt make you a pool player, that would make you a pool cue owner (since you are not a pro) by your analogy, right?

Do you not see puppy eating hypocrite under your name? How does this make me a racist? She wants to be like you so I figured she eats puppies too. NICE TRY but I think most of the people on here are smart enough to see through your bulls$%^. Some RED on it's way. knock knock- special delivery, Maam is this the RED REP you ordered? Let's call things for what they are...

No one will argue the fact that sex sells, but I do think that many women who actually PLAY pool will see a problem when a company is trying to pass off an amateur as a pro. Shanelle's current level of playing ability makes her more like a "spokesmodel" at best.

But let's not dance around the fact that she is just something pretty to look at, nothing more.

And since were on the subject of "promoting" Shanelle Lorraine, here are a couple of other product ideas that have about as much merit as implying her playing ability is what got her where she is...

this is true. but it doesn't mean just because you are not at that level yet, that it doesn't give you the right to play pool. Marissa played like shit when she was a banger, but nobody prevented her or said that she shouldn't play pool. see the irony?

Laying down the law on Marissa again! Someone keeps getting "pwned" by old Jason here. Shanelle gets the gold medal, Marissa and her henchman get a piece of scrap metal picked up by a bum near a dumpster in East L.A.

Yup, nevermind because you are obviously confused on what your point really is here. You have no clue on where to direct your comments, or how to stay focused and mature in your responses towards posters on this forum.

Implying that I am somehow "following" Marissa or part of a "group with her is ludacris!! Even "running to her rescue" is so WAY OFF base....in other past threads I have directly semi-bashed her because we didn't see eye to eye....get a CLUE guy!!!

I am my own person with my own opinions....you are the one choosing to put us together for whatever reasons. Why? Because I'm an adult that can admit that even with our differences I do agree with her on points about THIS thread??

Did you think it to be a threat? So be it, it was my way of wishing I'd had this conversation with you in person because you are reading everything in the wrong way and just coming back with rash and slightly weird replies. It was your decision to first, start personally attacking me, and second being completely disrespectful to me because either you didn't quite understand my first post, OR you have no clue where to direct your hate/disslike for Marissa. Just outta line period.

I don't believe I had your respect in the first place......you should learn from your own advice: that everyone "deserves" respect.

Never said she shouldn't, or didn't, have the right to play pool.

However, placing Shanelle in so-called "pro" events (even if they were put on by Dragon Promotions), when she has not earned her way there on the merits of her playing ability, is a slap in the face to any of the women who have worked & trained hard to be able play at a professional level.

Sorry to say, but "paying your dues" with Charlie Williams does not qualify someone as a pro player.

Puppy eating? You are owned--FU? There sure is a bunch of juvenile garbage being thrown around in here. Grow up and learn to debate a topic with some intelligence. When you start to attack the person more than their viewpoint it makes you look like the "hater"--the very thing you are claiming that they are. It also makes it appear that your argument isn't strong enough, or that you aren't smart enough to be able to keep it to the topic and facts.

And before you think I'm one of Phoebe or Marissa's friends, I've never said a word to Phoebe in my life, and just finished strongly disagreeing with Marissa on almost the same topic in another thread. I'm just telling it the way it is--or at least the way I see it. Can we get back to some adult sounding discussion?

I think outta everyone on this forum I relate best with penguin. I agree and am very happy she at least plays the game and is hopefully looking to, and can improve. Even if she didn't I really could care less. I don't think of ANY girl a "threat" unless it's on the table...because I am a "player". Yet, it is a bit unfair on how she gets a "pro" status without even going thru somekind of qualifying process.....but like I said in my first post.....she's lucky to get that chance, can't hate her for it, and don't. But, I can understand where the unfairness aspect is quite damaging for other girl "players" and how it can be upsetting overall.

On the bright side, all the more prestigious, professional, non-CW events do require a player to be somewhat qualified to actually play and compete at a certain level. Whether or not Shanelle can get there to prove her worth on the table is just as powerful as her physical "assets" is all up too her.

For all we know she just might be fine with where she is at, and what she is doing right now, then so be it too.

THANK YOU GOD!!!! You posted what I was thinking all along, but was unable to do clearly and calmly- partly outta being a little bothered by my attacker.

And you are right, I've never said a thing to you either (except for now)...so hopefully jasonlaus will chill the fack out and lay it to rest already!!!

I think that people are semi-confused about what is being argued about.

Is it bashing Shanelle and being upset at her because she took a sponsorship that another could have conceivably gotten that played better?

~or~

Is it that we disagree with the company's choice in choosing her because she is promoting sporting equipment that she doesn't at this time play well with?

I think there has not been a "concise" argument about it because so many people have been replying to each other and saying these two separate things to each other, there by getting nowhere at all as evidenced by the eleven or twelve pages we are at already.

I don't think that Marissa, Phoebe, cuechick or any other female is jealous of Shanelle at all that she got this sponsorship, or is mad at her in any way. I have read all of this thread, along with the other recent one and I feel that the general consensus is that no one at all faults her for taking the free money and the opportunities afforded her by Charlie Williams. I do feel that Marissa got caught in a trap and convoluted her own argument (which *gasp* I tended to agree with) because she allowed her feelings about Charlie to be enter-twined with what she was trying to express. That added an unneeded feeling of being in jr. high school listening to an argument at recess.

Anyone in their right mind would take a hand up when trying to make it in this industry when they love the game. I do not blame or fault her for doing this! I never read anyone discrediting her character, and no one write that she isn't a nice girl.

I feel like the more valid argument is finding fault with the company for choosing her to sponsor. This forum is filled with pool purists, those who worry about the credibility of a sport that already has problem in the eyes of the everyday person. We are avidly trying to expand this sport to the masses for the good of all of those who try to make a living at it. It is better to these purists to look at a smart approach to long term growth for the industry than a company's short term gain.

They are merely voicing this opinion, not bashing Shanelle. Everyone understands that sex sells. With sporting equipment however, it is usually skill at the chosen sport that sells.

Most people want to interject Anna Kournikova as an example. The fact that she made the cut time and time again to play at Wimbledon, the U.S Open, the Australian Open, etc, makes her a world class caliber player. Although she never won a single's event, the fact that she could even play at these venues speak volumes of her ability. This is not to mention the many doubles titles she owns.

I myself have no problem if Cindy Crawford or whatever other super model wants to endorse a can of Pepsi. That's great! I would hate to see the soccer industry want to sell a soccer ball using Cindy instead of Mia Hamm. If I am serious about playing a good game of anything and am going to invest some of my money to do that, I am in just about any sport going to spend my money on what the pro's use.

It did really bother me when I was out in 2006 avidly looking for sponsors turning time and time again to ads in Billiards Digest or Inside Pool and saw industry companies using a model to sell a pool table, or a cue stick. Sponsorships are very hard to come by as a professional player, and it saddened me to see companies in our industry not supporting our professional pool players by endorsements, but instead give this money to a model that looks ridiculous bending over a pool table.

So, in the end, my opinion is that I disagree with a company using Shanelle at this time to endorse a cue stick. She is a spokesmodel at best, which as I have explained, should have no part in promoting a piece of sporting equipment.

There are many attractive women that have earned their way on to the pro tour that have spent countless hours practicing, held back on having families and going to school, and got looked over by their places of employment for advancement because of the amount of time they had to take off to even attend an event once a month. I feel these companies in our industry owe it to give these girls another look, to further support our sport in a proactive way, one that in the end, benefits themselves.

Tina Pawloski

Very well said.

A professional event should be for those who have truly earned their right to be there. Promoters playing favorites does nothing but discredit the sport.

But, make no mistake, Charlie Williams will continue to guarantee Shanelle a spot in his events (rather than invite someone who is actually qualified) for no other reason than he has a piece of her action.

(Feel free to interpret that how you like.)

But what else is new. :frown:
