Willie Mosconi on ESPN Classic

Saturday afternoon on ESPN Classic, they seem to be featuring Willie Mosconi in the "Legends of Pool" matches from Atlantic City in 1982. I saw his opponants will be Arthur "Babe" Cranfield, Jimmy Moore, U'J. Puckett and Irving Crane.

Even though Mosconi (June 27, 1913 - Sept 16, 1993) and Crane (Nov 13, 1913 - Nov 17, 2001) were both 69 years old when they played this match, you'll still be impressed with the skill level that they retained, even at this late stage in their careers.

Try and imagine just how superb these great champions played in their heyday!

I'm running to my DVR now. I have it set to record all billiards matches on ESPN Classic in the 10 am EST slot, and never would have captured this.

Thanks Terry!!!!

KK9L,
I'm pretty sure they start at 2:00PM EST.
10:00 has American Gladiators, which is what all these famous pool champs were, but.....:)

Also, for those who haven't seen these yet, a very young Chris Berman and Allen Hopkins do the commentary. This was the first time I ever heard the word "Shhnookered", which is still how I try to pronounce it today! And "Champeens". It's gonna be fun to see.

I use to get ESPN classic. Haven't been able to get that station. Called Comcast and was told that is now part of the sports package. I am paying over $150 a month to them and can't get reruns. Think it is time to change providers.

Changing providers probably won't do you any good. The same thing happened with DirecTV. It was most likely a decision by ESPN.

I wish there was footage of Mosconi in his prime. I'll bet with all the exhibitions he gave that somewhere in a basement gathering dust there is an old 8mm video of Mosconi.

Fortunately the 1966 Crane 150 and out survived so we get an idea of how great he was.

I had ESPN Classic forever with Comcast when the same thing happened to me. I *****ed at them and was relentless wanting a supervisor. I told them it's one thing to add additional programing at extra charge, but it's another to take something away from me.

They gave me the sports package at no charge.

Yep, in 1966 I had the privilege of playing him a straight pool match to 150. I was just a 15 year old kid and didn’t realize he had had a stroke in 1957 and was just getting back in action.

That sounds like a plan, I have DirectTV and I went to watch pool in the morning like I do once in awhile and no ESPN Classic, was not happy about it.

I also had ESPN classic on Comcast cable, until they informed me it would be an additional charge to keep receiving it. I read them the riot act, but it did no good.
So my answer to them was, instead of getting more money from me I'm canceling Comcast all together. If more people did the same I'm sure they would get the message.
