Women in the open.. Other side of the coin

I wrote letters an shit below, yo.
Black Balled we usually agree and I respect your opinion. However on this one I have to disagree. I am not as good as Archer, SVB, Corey or any of those guys. Does that mean that all the B Players like myself should get a bonus? That would encourage me to play. Also to me it is degrading the talent of the women by giving them a bonus. Its saying "Look we know u r probably not gonna win so here you go just do better than the other women and we will throw you a bone.

I happily stand by my opinion. You apparently think you've won the day with your arguments. Good luck with that.
No Argument here. I have not won anything because I have pointed out the facts as I see them and given you the opportunity to respond and answer just a couple of questions that may make me see the light and understand better. I have been wrong before and I am sure will be wrong again. Please don't look at this as a argument, I think one way and if you have something that you think will help me realise by answering my concerns I would love to hear it.

Same pay for the same work. Right?

I think that as long as they are encouraging a group then it is OK.

As a solid also-ran in the tourney world...I want a bonus +1!!

Well I guess I don't think the bonus argument has anything to do with the important issue. I guess i don't personally believe there should be a bonus in the US Open specifically. But I see quite a number of bonus awards in pool tournaments in Arizona. Like the Desert Classic Tour offers a B player bonus. The senior golf tour for many years has a category for senior seniors. there are a lot of bonus tournament in various sports. And it's all for the same reason: inclusion not exclusion.

We see how that has been applied to ladies in all aspects of life. Right? Talk about "fair".... the ladies have been waging an uphill battle for being treated "fair" for hundreds of years. This tournament giving a little extra to the ladies being "unfair" to men who have had a distinct advantage in paydays forever seems hardly like a cause for concern. And it paints you and others who share your opinion as a wee bit too greedy and selfish.

Were this to be the case all the time going forward, perhaps you would have a case for the men not being treated "fairly". Right now, it makes you look silly.

That's kind of what i think.

Well not greedy or selfish. Its just my opinion and I think that there are plenty of ladies in these events that can do some damage and compete. You seem to think that the women can't compete against the men as you said "Disadvantage" I disagree. I know alot of female players both amature and pro and consider them friends. They know that I am not a sexist in any way so please don't think that. I encourage all my female pool playing friends and will go and sweat their matches and support them. Trigger for example I sat and watched her matches not too long ago in Harker Heights, TX so I really do not want this to be a BFDLAD hates women deal. I just don't agree with bonuses for PROFESSIONAL female players that have enough talent to win these event.

I agree with the OP's basic premise....

To take it a step further, whether women or other protected groups, I adamantly dislike the fact that people want to be equal to a point.....they like to be "equal" when it benefits them, but they prefer to be women or another group when there is an advantage....

Just sayin...

For the record, we have a few ladies on our pool team, and they are always seen and treated just like the guys......tons of great female players in the Dallas area that often like to put me in the losers bracket :D

I believe it was Barry's idea of giving the bonus, not the women asking for it. Johnnyt

1st place 2009 US Open: $40,000

1st place 2009 US Women's Open: $14,100

You call that equal?
Where did all the $$ go? they are on TV right? I just watched the final with Jasmin and Kelly on TV. I can't speak for the accounting or sponsorship dollars of the WPBA. That number does seem low for the ladies though and considering that they are on TV all the time I have no idea why it would be so low but thats not my point. I never asked what the ladies tour pays for each event. Not sure how that even comes into play now I think about it. We are talking about 2 separate events and I am only talking about bonuses.

Maybe it's time to end the thread.

Yes you are right it was his idea and it was also Mark Griffins idea to do it for the US Open 10-Ball. As I said in a previous post. I personally just don't think its right, I will see Kelly Fisher and Allison Fisher this week and I will ask them what their thoughts are on this subject. Obviously they are gonna like the idea but I will try and see if they think it is unfair.

I love pool, its a big part of my life. Look back at any and all other posts I have made on this forum. See how many negative things you can find, I am all about making things better. Some people on here already know how I have tried to do what I could to help the players and the sport. It does not mean that I have to agree with everything.

If the bonus for the ladies is good for pool in general then I think it should be in place. Not saying I like it but if its good for the sport then it has to be and thats all there is to it.

I believe the bonuses are fair until the ladies show they can win the event. Once equality has been established the bonuses should stop.

Do you actually have any kind of opinion that can enlighten me? If you believe in something then you should open up and say it instead of not answering important questions pertaining to the thread or just wanting to end the thread.

me this.

1) Why can Men not compete in top ladies events?

Because men aren't ladies.

The U S Open calls itself an open event, not a men's only event.

The financial reality is adding men to the wpba would add nothing to the event. Allowing the top women to the U S Open will generate a lot more interest in the event.

I think I and all B players should get a bonus too, just until we can show that we can win a event. Then they should stop, oh but that would not be fair would it??? Then again just my opinion.

Finally someone with a real argument. You are right. Thank you. That makes sense to me. Still don't like the bonuses though :)

Women haven't had the same opportunities as men to become the JA's, Mika's, & Thorsten's of the world, particularly here in the US, until very recently. They have to be afforded the chance to play catch up.
