Bro, there's a difference between expressing reservation about an organizers ability to do a good job on promoting an event and publicly insinuating that a scam was being set up. As I said before, emotions run high in things like this and I can appreciate where you are coming from... just... well... I hope you see my point on this...
From how I've read Sputnik's post monski, the organizers weren't setting up a scam, but the total reverse,
they were hoping for a blockbuster, for their collective pocket's sake. Their first two previous tournaments
(WPC '06 and '07) was a huge success from all fronts; the sponsors were lining up, the extensive coverage
was worldwide, the audience' response was tremendous, and ALL the TOP players showed up. Their last two
events was a flop, and they obviously lost financially, and the WTBC was their ticket to get out of the red.
They weren't expecting the lukewarm reception they got from previous sponsors, even though they drew
almost all of the top foreign players to play, the sponsors were looking for the sure thing, the top dogs of
pool in the Philippines.
They were in too deep on this one and they probably thought that it was too late to back out, and I guess
pride played a part in it too. They tried to save face by pointing a finger and painting a rosy picture which
was obviously not, as we all saw a ghost town.
I'm still hoping for the best, to see all the players get paid, including the refs, the crew and the venue as well...
