World 10 Ball Silence

World 9-ball for 2008 will most likely happen in February 2009, is the latest I have heard... So in 2009 we will hopefully get 2 World 9-ball Championships...

I can't understand that people act so different this time, compared to the IPT-situation. When a month had passed after IPT failed to pay in Reno the posters here on AZBilliards went wild.

Now it seems like it is me, bandido, sputnik, pro9dg, nostroke, fatboy, monski and a handful more that bother to read these threads.....

Not true Roy, I read these post and feel very bad for these players. And from the hits this thread gets I would say alot of people are reading this with the same discust as the IPT. I may not always post but I do read them. And have deep sympothy for the players involved.

I've been keeping up with this thread as well, just haven't had anything constructive to post.

I'm hoping that the players get paid out in FULL. It's hard enough as it is as a billiards pro to make a decent living!

Yeah, you are right, I stand corrected.

The "checks are in the mail" thread from September 2006 had actually fewer posts and 13 000 hits. This thread has more posts and 12600 hits as of today...

I haven't read this thread in a while - are the players still not paid?

WPA?

WPA?

...anyone?
...anyone?

Roy, that pic of Jasmine is amazing. I wonder...if there's a race between the players getting paid and me marrying Jasmine....who would win?

Just so sick and tired of reading about this type of stuff. It is really quite annoying.

Pool player ponies up the money, goes and plays, and gets shafted.

Promoters or organizations don't pay.

Nothing gets done.
Why does this continue to happen?

Just get a bunch of baseball bats and pistols, go beat the daylights out of offending parties or shoot them dead.

WRITE OFF THE MONEY, and never have to deal with these scumbags again.

Let it be a message to every potential scumbag of what will happen if you try to exploit the players.

I really don't care about the laws that are in place. Sometimes someone needs to get the $#!T kicked out of them and put in a hospital, or someone needs to die for people to understand that what they are doing is WRONG!

It's that simple.

Go find the people that owe, torture them appropriately, and VOILA.
No more issues involving players getting shafted.

Let me tell you something.

Back in the day, if i was a pro player and Mackey ripped ME off and ruined it for the entire pool playing community, Mackey would be on his dining room table, dead, with a bullet hole through his heart, and apple in his mouth, on a huge silver platter for his whole family to see.

F THAT BULL$#!T

Hire a hit man, hire a posse, go out and off them personally, i don't care.
Someone needs to get the job done.
This has gone on long enough.

Pool players need to stop letting the promoters and organizations constantly bend them over and give them the business.
If that means shooting them in the face, or beating the crap out of them in front of their families with baseball bats, then so be it.

If nothing ever gets done, it's gonna seem like pool players LIKE getting bent over and destroyed.

Wow Superstar!

Don't you have any radical solutions to getting the players money?

Why are you soft pedalling?

Yesterday and Today is Payday

Does anyone know if players got paid yesterday, or even today?

Superstar is absolutely right. It's so commonplace for the players to not do anything when stiffed that the having to pay them is merely a suggestion.

All it takes is one precedent and like he said, voila. The promoters' nuts would shrivel to the size of a poppy seed if confronted with the idea of scamming a tournament.

Although this may not hold water in court, the WPA acted as the "guarantor" as their assurance that all's well at Raya's end
just before the start of the tournament was the push the players wanted to hear before they committed themselves to play...

On the face of it there is absolutely no chance whatsoever of any court considering WPA legally liable for the $400k.....and even in the extremely remote contingency of any court ever making such a ruling it's highly unlikely that WPA have got anywhere near even $40k in their bank, let alone $400k.

The invited players entered into a contract with Raya Sports as per the document they all signed. Until the prize money specified in the appendices to that contract is paid to the players Raya Sports are in breach of contract and any non-payment of the prize money is therefore initially a matter that would normally be dealt with under a civil code and not a criminal code.

The possibility of players making a complaint to the police that they have been defrauded would be quite a different ball game and a whole lot of ducks would need to be arranged in a tightly disciplined row before even considering starting down that route. On the information known so far there's no reason to think that prospect is a straightforward one. Apart from several other things there may be a possible difference in the eyes of the law between invited players and those players who entered qualifiers in Phillipines with cash entry fees.

Just an IMHO.

Hey Doug- Sure if the payments are made, all this delay will be forgotten but if everyone is stiffed, I guarantee it wont be forgotten.
Is that anything like a Raya guarantee

So is the WPC9 Ball offically dead? I guess i dont really understand what is going on. Why cant Matchroom do their thing? They are very good at it.
The WPC is not dead but it is in the operating theatre. Not much was done
for the 2008 tournam ent on the assumption that Raya Sports would be bidding to host it again. When Raya announced that they were going ahead with the ill fated 10 Ball and jettisoning the 9 Ball it left Matchroom in the lurch.
A valiant attempt by BMPAP to keep the WPC9 in the Philippines foundered.
They raised $500,000 and found a possible lender to match that sum.
But when they found out that the lender wanted a return of $20 million
then all bets were off.

It takes well over a million to stage the event to a Matchroom standard.
Otherwise you end up with the fiasco that we have just witnessed.

It may look like a scene from Flatliners now but the patient is expected
to make a full recovery.

A greenhorn hunter went up to Canada to hunt bear. On his first trip he spotted a bear and tried to sneak up on him but he snapped a twig and the bear was on him quickly. The bear happened to be a talking bear and said to the hunter "I haven't seen a female bear for a while so you will do" and the bear raped the hunter and left him bloody in the field.

The hunter made it home, recuperated and decided to go back and kill that bear. This time as he had the bear in his sights a fly landed on his nose and he flinched unloading his gun in the air. The bear came around and caugh the hunter again and raped him again.

Once more the hunter recovered and vowed to get the bear. This time he had the bear on the run and just as he was about to pull the trigger he tripped on a log and lost his gun. The bear swung around and pinned the hunter down and said, "you aren't up here for the hunting are you?"

A lender that expects 20 million return on a $500,000 loan is not a "possible" lender it's an impossible one.

I thought Matchroom used to be the producer/promoter of the WPC? Why aren't they just doing it all themselves?

The way the world works TODAY, people commit crimes like this, and hide behind expensive lawyers or the law itself. As it takes far too much just to get it to court assuming that court is even an option.

Fortunately, i don't really live in that world.
I live in my own self serving world where i make rules as i see fit for what i feel is just or not.

Of course i know my thoughts in this instance are not the higher road or enlightened path, but i know that it would be a solution to the problem. PERIOD.

It's kind of funny when i think about it cause I actually know a couple of guys i grew up with who you could say are "collectors" for white collar debt, where they are contracted to fly to certain town to go talk to someone, and either collect the money, or collect a signature that signs over a certain part of whatever that is a result of not coming up with the money.

Let me tell you, that if some fat cat is sitting behind his 16 foot mahogany desk, and decides that he's gonna mess with the little guys he owes money to, his tune completely changes when he has a shotgun in his mouth, or up his ass.

Then it's like friggin Christmas time, and gifts are abundant with debt being paid left and right.
But if they didn't have that incentive, nothing would ever get done.

I feel that the pool playing community has been ripped off enough to where some wild west action or flat out lynchings are without a doubt, an appropriate course of action.

The players that are owed money should just write it off.
If your willing to bend over and take it up the ass cause someone owes you a dime, then you really need to think about if you want to continue being a pool player or not cause it's not going to stop happening any time soon.

And for all you people that are gonna get all mushy when it comes time to bust a promoters head wide open and be like "no, don't hurt him, what about his family, or what about his little kid"

Um, NO!!

And it's not just limited to pool.

I happen to think that every wall street CEO that made a fortune ripping off the public should be shot in the face, and have all his wealth liquidated to try and make restitutions.
His family, wife kids and babies should be tossed out on the street to starve like the homeless.

"oh, but it's not their fault, they didn't commit the crime"

F that bull$#!t, i don't care if they rot on the streets or not. I'm not going to take it up the ass so that they can live some luxurious lifestyle.

Let them go sleep it off in an alley, and go look in a dumpster for some food.

Money. They only produce quality products and that takes sponsorship cash. So how about the JBC World 9 Ball Championship?

How connected is YM? Does he have any pull with the present philippine administration? How about the military? i know he probably has connections in the media.... is that the reason why this has not really been exposed in scandal-starved manila?

As of this morning, we have word from Yen that payment has been made to the players and all players that we have spoken to here in the states have verified that they have payment.
