World Ten Ball updates

All referees are supposed to work in the same manner. And my guess is that there aren't any racks available at the tables.

There are wooden racks under the tables (at least there's one under the TV table)- that's why I thought it was optional.

Jeong Young-Hwa just breezed by Konstantin Stepanov, 9 games to 2 while the game between Liu
Haitao and Johnny Archer are headed the same direction, with Archer trailing Haitao, 7 games to zip...

Jeff "The Bull" De Luna is through to the round of 64 with a 9-3 win against Marco Tschudi...

It's not about the ability, the secret is in the dents. And even though it's hard for you to believe, the racks are perfect. Obviously, you don't know what you are talking about.

Wouldn't be the first time, or the last. .

I'll still match you rack for rack and see who gives up the most balls on the break. I know a few tricks myself, and I don't have to dent the cloth.

Now that I read the ablove posts, I want to learn about this template. I'm not too old to learn. I guess the idea of tapping dents into the cloth doesn't sit well with me. I haven't forgot the Sardo thing.

Jasmin played great! She beat a good player, plain and simple. She showed composure and heart. She IS the most talented women player. Her game looks just like a top man playing. She has all the weapons in her arsenal and she thinks good too. I even like her push outs.

I think it was great for pool for her to win like this on major television. If she could actually win a tourney like this, what a boost for the sport that would be. And from what I've seen, she is capable of doing just that.

Five Americans in the final 64, that's a pleasant surprise. Without the top five or six filipinos, this tourney is up for grabs. Bunny is calling me to dinner. She is a good cook too, a nice bonus. :)

So Corey is playing and has the 2 in the side with a sweet billiard on the 10. He wants to play both, but must play only one or the other. The 2 is certain so he calls it and makes it easily. The 10 goes too, and must be respotted. Sorry bad rule!

Can't he call both???

Jay, from my experience, the dents in the cloth interfere with the gameplay much less than a headspot sticker. We've all seen different trickshot setups where the balls have to be tapped lightly, to make sure they are really frozen. Well, there you go, that's the general idea behind the racking template...

Which brings up my question. Since they are tapping the tables, do they not use a head spot sticker at all? I can't see where it would be necessary, as you could simply mark the cloth with a perm. marker to indicate the location for the head ball. Or does the head spot sticker server other purposes as well, like perhaps protecting the felt from the downward force of the head ball? I wouldn't think that would be an issue either, though, at least not throughout the short duration of one tournament. So is the sticker necessary on a tapped table?

Does anyone know the story on Ronnie Wiseman? I noticed that he forfeited his matches. Seems that it would take something serious to keep a player away from this tournament.

you kiddin ? NA players turn down invites every year- It's real expensive and 18 hours in a plane is no fun.

Not to mention this tournamment has no tradition whatsoever. It's a whole new ball game.

Hey Marek. Sure I remember you and Harlequin :) How you're doing, when are you going to qualify for the EPC so I can rack for you as well ? :)

I know Jay is a good and knowledgeble guy but in this case he just doesn't know what he's talking about. I don't usually start arguing about things, but in this case there are many ppl who will just go with Jay here without knowing how the facts are. Nothing against Jay, and I liked his report on Bunny :)

Hi Mikko!
I am doing just fine, after two tournaments (8ball+9ball) of czech extraleague I am in the lead with two 1st place finishes, running racks like crazy... If I play like this the whole season (another 8tournaments+nationals) we will see each other in St.Johann im Pongau, Austria for sure... Also I was able to win straight pool nationals this year which was my first individual gold medal from nationals, also won silver in 8ball and bronze in 9ball and in team competiton. Recently (3 weeks ago) I bought a pool table home so I can practice anytime I want. Weird thing is that I dont have a room where I can put 9footer so the table stands in the corner of the room so I have full access to it from two sides. Funny thing is that it helps me to practice more responsibly as I cant just throw the balls on it and shoot, basically I can only practice drills on it. Another thing that has happened to me recently is that I FINALLY found big error in my fundamentals which hold me back, now I am just playing my best game ever. Oh, I almost forgot - I got on the national snooker team for EC in Lublin, Poland! Funny thing is I got on the national team in my first season playing snooker competition here. Lost all 7 matches in Lublin though, but some of them were really close, I lost to Lee Page 3:4, he is 21 years old and he is already FORMER profesional player as he had qualified for the main profesional tour in the age of 17! So I was basically happy I made it pretty hard for him...

I think that in a club environment, the sticker should be used to protect the cloth from tearing up. We tried the no sticker thing and surprisingly, it didn`t work. I see no reason to use the sticker for the short duration of the tournament though.
