Hi all,
Since US open only streaming ONE TABLE ONLY! Would they allow us to take our home Camcorders to record matches, and distribute them via YouTube to us AZBer's ? from faraway without disturbing the match! we are not talking the main stream table stuff? Thanks.

No. Angel Levine was shown the exit last year when she came with her video camera, and she only wanted to video the people behind the scenes, not the matches. But Barry Behrman said no to that.

That is a very short-sighted view on Behrman's part.

1) No one is going to pass up attending the US Open "because I can see it on youtube one week later."

2) With today's technology every one of the matches is "part of history." There are bound to be some epic matches that take place away from the TV table. To capture those is only good for pool.

3) Any downstream video play is just more publicity for the US Open.

They gave up on recording bans at concerts and such since every phone is also a camera now. Don't see why they don't want matches recorded at the US Open. I recorded stuff at the US Open 10 Ball in Vegas, no one said anything.

Totally agree

Angel and Barry's beef was about more than just taping last year.

On the other hand, I don't see one person with a camcorder here. Usually there are a handful of people with them at pro events. I imagine part of the reason they are not allowed is that Pat with Accu-Stats is doing the ppv. Why pay for the ppv if you can watch a different match on YouTube an hour after it is over?

Only 1 TV/streaming table in tourney with 9 tables is not enough. About 90% of matches in early rounds are lost forever and not caught on tape
Just saying but maybe organizers should outsource streaming of other tables to more than 1 company ? Hate to compare but In W9B2014, they had something like 10 tables or more and Kozoom stream every table

1.) Bandwidth here and bandwidth in Europe are 2 different animals.

2.) Did you see the stands at the w9b2014? Empty. No need to go when you can see more from your computer than you could if you went. Bad idea. The stream should only be a sample of the many great matches that you miss when you don't go. I never want to lose the fun of getting together with my pool brothers and sisters and cheering them on. Let's get more people watching, live and online, and we are all winning.

3.) Many times you learn more from the commentary when there is a full production stream than you do from just watching. 1 table with expert commentary vs all tables and no commentary, I'd choose the one table with experts.

I would support video recording of all matches for historical purposes. I'm sure many would make it to the archives. Doubt it would be cost effective to do though.

Can't sell overpriced DVDs if someone puts it up on youtube for free.

Unless one knows the cost involved in producing high quality pool videos one cannot say they are overpriced.

Pat's videos are a steal. Take it from someone who knows. ;)

Barry must have changed his mind about such things.

Back in 2000 when I played last time,he had NO problem with my wife using our camcorder (pre-cellphone) to record BOTH of my matches, losing to Jose Parica and Hideaki Sakamura.

Neither match was on the TV table though. Tommy D.

Just record the good matches-for future sale/youtube-please, plus you can get as much as you want bandwidth with proper planning and $$ anywhere in the USA !!!
W9b2014 is international event, like Olympic, not many people can afford air fare to W9b2014 it made a lot of sense to stream all tables similarly US open must! , i am sure a lot of countries that wanted to see their players hate us because USA cannot afford it
at this level i bet 90% of people watching are almost a B-A level, knows a good shot when they see it, commentary is good when it has good educational comments, fun stories, maybe crack a joke or two and not explaining basic moves in 9 ball!! one pocket might differ a little

Are they recording anything besides stream table?

Back in the 90's when Accu-stats was getting off the ground. We had a pro tournament here at a local pool room called the Golden Cue and Accu-stats was there. What they did then was place a quality video camera over every table and it showed the playing surface of the matches. The matches were filmed on tape back then and you could buy any match you wanted (without commentary). One of my good friends who played semi-pro speed told me about Accu-stats and he advised me to buy a couple of the tapes so I could watch the pros and how they played. If they could tape every match in the tournament back in the 90's why can't they do it now. Just sell the copies at a cheaper price since the matches away from the TV table wouldn't have commentary. Or they could go back and add the commentary later. The commentary at this years event is coming from a room that's not even in the tournament room and it's being done from a monitor so what would be the difference in adding commentary later from watching the match on a monitor? Just a thought.......

Come on, man. You work...now how would you respond to someone who asked you to perform your job's duties for 12+ hours a day for a week, requiring you to furnish all necessary materials and provide your own transportation and lodging/ food?

Oh, but it is for the good of the_____. :barf:

You- and all the rest of us- would have something else to do that week, ga-ron-teed.

Fans would still pay for the TV table stream because 1) it has the primo matches, 2) it has professional production quality and 3) because it has good (sometimes) commentary.

Conversely, an amateur video of a non-TV table match will be shot from a distance and usually feature an unknown player. But when the unknown beats a champion, at least you've got it on tape for history. When two unknowns battle it out at least their family and friends get to see it. There's just no loss to Behrman or Accu-Stats of allowing video of non-TV table matches.

I agree, it would not be cost-effective for Accu-Stats to record/stream every match. But it cost nothing to allow a fan to make an amateur video of what might be an historic match. An unknown (who might win the whole thing) would probably play 4 matches before even having a chance of being recorded on the TV table.

I wish we had footage of Caesar Morales at Red's...even if it was an early-rounds match, shot by an amateur at a bad angle with no commentary.

Maybe, just maybe...it was because it was in Qatar. I don't get why people think it's so expensive to stream, honestly. You can do it with a decent camera and you recover costs extremely easily on that.

No, they haven't given up.

Went to see Dave Mason just last night, and signs on the door stated " Absolutely NO recording devices allowed, audio or video.

They announced before the show started to "turn off all cell phones as well". I saw 1 person snap a shot (cell phone) as the show ended, that was all.
