Would you go to a once a year AzB Get Together in N.C. at Chandley's Chalk and Cue?

Depends

Depends,....

I really love the game of pool; all games BUT:

NC Issa 12 hr drive/trip for me so,.....

Throw some sand on the floor...........
Make the babes wear bikinis,..........
Plenty of cold refreshments,.......
Some of that good NC BBQ (you know: the vinegar type),......
ANYONE who AIR BARRELS faces a firing squad of tournament blue paint-ball !

oh, and make sure the "Trampster" shows up,................ :grin-square: :)

I'M THERE !

If the interest is there

Well this is an awesome place. I'm sure we can throw some shoulders on the grill, we have plenty to drink, great tables and if the interest is there we could definitely get something special going. They have bands, do dances its a great place to do something Pool there. All we need is some folks interested in doing it.

It would be a plane flight for me... If I were to fly I'd go to LAX and visit Hard Times in Bellflower, CA.

.

Such a Great Place

I might be down for that. I have family in NC.

I'm there! Name the time.

Its such a great big room, it really ought to happen, if people want it to, I'm sure it could. I happen to know the owner, he would gladly put something to together. It would be kind of cool to have some of these personalities in one place at least once a year! Would be a nice party.

As soon as I saw the pics of Mike C's new place I said to myself I gotta get there someday.

a very nice thought.

best,

Thanks, I think with some planning and some thought that something like this could go off really well and become something people would look forward to every year.

We could plan events, food all kinds of stuff....imaginations run wild!

Mark Griffins in Las Vegas or hard times in LA
would be more likely for me to go

I would like to see you guys, but I would also like
the environment of the other pool rooms

The Whole Vegas thing

Vegas and Pool have always sort of been together but it would be nice to have a Vegas Pool Type thing here on the East Coast!

I would. There are several groups from upstate SC that go up there already. They love your place. Can't wait to head up there myself.

Sounds cool and I would Def try to make it at least once. Looks like a nice room.

Whatever happened to the get togethers or the "" AZB Room " at Derby City? I never attended the AZB room and I think I heard it was done away with due to space, is that correct? IMO, Derby City Classic is by far the best event in the US, every year! Year after year there are always tons of AZ'ers that attend. I'd assume this event always draws more AZ folks than any other event with I'm guessing the Open a second.

I know due to work / family obligations many folks are only able to attend one big event each year, and for obvious reasons they choose DCC. With DCC'so centralized location it draws from all around but many fly in. With this place in NC location on the East coast, it may be more accessible by driving and there all cesarean plenty or Az'ers on the East Coast. Both are within a days drive for me so that aspect wouldn't matter so much I think the biggest advantage in NC would be better access to the tables for playing and matching up. Table access at DCC isn't the greatest and most of the time it is very late and that precludes a lot of people that are up there in age.

Any idea what time of year you were thinking or is it just too early?

Just talk at this point

Its just talk at this point, but I think it could come off really easily. The date Im sort of fishing for one if you know the truth. You can screw up a good event with a bad date in a heart beat so if you have any ideas lets hear it. Some consensus would be good and then we could talk about what you want to happen that weekend. I like sort of wild out of the box kind of ideas.

Well without putting much thought into it, the first thing that pops into my head is right around the US Open. I know too close for this year. It's within a few hours drive and you may get considerably more people than otherwise. Reason I say that is for those that make the trip to Chesapeake this would only be a short drive from there. Should already have a bunch of AZ'ers at the Open, weather would not be much of a concern, and wouldn't have as many family obligations such as during the summer with family trips and what not.

I agree some forethought would have gotten it together this year but with that being said. We could plan a big ass one for next year before or after the US Open but I'd like to do one soon but its family season and all the Thanksgiving/Christmas sort of things going on.

Do you think people would come before or after the Derby? or for a big Christmas Party or should we look for the first one another time?

I never could do The Derby I have obligations that I cant do that event around.

IMO, I think you are correct about Thanksgiving and Christmas with all of the family obligations. To me it doesn't seem like a whole lot going on between the Open and The Derby - at least not for me and I'm sure there is a reason for that. I'd guess before OR after the Open would be OK but forced to choose I would go with after. I say this because I know a lot of folks that go to the Open will wait and go for " the second half " of it because of one reason or another they can not do the whole thing and they prefer the second half because obviously the finals but also a perceived better value due to a higher level of play. It's deeper in the tourney, most if not all of the " dead money " is gone.

As to after DCC, not sure that's a great idear for a few reasons. For one, soon as the Derby is completed they are breaking down and getting the hell out of there. I'm really not sure, but the Horseshoe may not have any of their own pool tables. More importantly, with so much packed into the 9 or so days of Derby everyone is completely mentally, physically, and financially drained and also ready to get the hell home.

One event not brought up yet is the Expo. The Expo could potentially be a viable option as well. It's a great event too but same as with any of these large events I would be concerned about the availability of tables to play on. At the Open there is always Quote Masters but from everything I always hear is that place is packed every night and near impossible to get tables there as well due to all the action. I would guess though Mike has good pull and if need be he may be able to get a couple tables reserved just for the get together for a couple days???

As far as other times of the year-??? Summer always seems to be tough, I guess family vacations and what not. Your idea for a get together seems very cool to me. I could be way off but truth be told I just don't see a ton of people flying in or multi day drives just for a get together though. That's the reason I've been mentioning having it during one of these pretty existing large events. Seems to me everything you would need / need to do is already set up and there for you.

Just do it!

I was looking at your posts and thinking this is something we could just do from time to time just need to drum it up a bit for a nice get together. I'm going to put together and itinerary and post it. I think a nice Pool Blowout weekend would do some of us here some good every once in awhile and I think that Chandleys is the place to do it and it can be done without a lot of trouble. Dates can be whenever, there will be no perfect ones but if we do preregistration this way everyone would know ahead of time if the party makes decent or not and of course you could walk in if you find yourself free but preplanning would help.

South Carolina Players

All you folks from South Carolina have been awesome! A bunch of you came up for Chandley's Team Challenges and we hope to be doing those again this winter.

What I want to do with the Az Get together type thing is show that there is a way for not only Az people to get together and play some new players but to make friendships with people in other places and states.

I think it would be awesome of we could take this great room and show case it as a place to go and find a friendly game in which you can concentrate on the Pool, the skills for the Pool and nothing but Pool and pure enjoyment. Doing that over a weekend would be awesome and the way I figure it most people when rooming with a friend and can do it for around $200 per weekend.

That is entering all of the tournaments on Friday and Saturday night, food, room, board and matching up with a new found friend and playing all day on Saturday and part of Sunday! Now thats a deal and its a great offering to the player!

I think there are a lot of great players out there that would like to lock horns with new people in friendly and in action games. As something like this becomes more popular I can see the action coming with it! As the action comes with it, then maybe that will bring bleachers for people to watch the action! We have some action going on up there now, when all of the tables are Diamonds, the best in the business and they all play the same, finding a private spot in the back is a good way to spend a day!
