According to http://www.poolcuenews.com/ there is alot of rumblings going on. The website has been down now a couple of days, and in one article on this website it eludes to PL promotions throwing it's hat back in the ring. This could all be very interesting over the next while. Also what does this mean for the players? It also says that Anne Craig has stepped down, I am surprised to read all of this. BTW found his blog by accident but what a great blog it is. Enjoyed reading his articles, keep them coming.:eek::eek: Just wondering if anyone else could enlighten us?

While the poolcuesnews.com website eludes to PL promotions being back in the ring b/c the phone # of the WPBA is similar to PL promotions, a comment on that blog by Anne Craig herself explains that the phone numbers have always been similar. So, just thought I'd explain that "rumor" is already addressed there.

Anne Craig stepping down is far from a good thing for the WPBA, or the players. Johnnyt

Anne Craig stepping down?!? Wtf?

I feel like I've lost a friend- and I never even met her in person!

Very very sad.

Another thing that makes no sense to me is having the Regional Championships at Hardtimes in CA 2/19-21/2010. Players that want to play(5 from each regional tour I believe) have to pay to fly across the country for a qualifier card for two events? I'm sure that trip for many will cost between $1000 and $1500. The WPBA has too many cooks in the stew IMO. Johnnyt

So what does it mean for women who just got their status, or women who want to fly out to Hard Times to try and get their status.

Is it really worth it, to only have 2 tournaments lined up this year?

I'd feel kind of ripped off if i after trying to break out on tour, i finally got there, and got screwed over on the number of tournaments i could play in cause for whatever reasons, the WPBA didn't have anything lined up.

If it ends up that there are only 2 tournaments this year, should WPBA 2010 status also include the upcoming 2011 calendar year? (That is assuming that the tour doesn't completely fall apart by that point)

Some of the ladies should chime in with their opinions on that one.

Be interesting to know what has caused the WPBA to stall at this point so that only 2 tournaments are lined up, what the board of directors has to say about it, and obviously, who will be pointing the finger at who if it comes to that.
I mean, OBVIOUSLY, something is wrong.

Guess it's safe to say that 2010 is not going to be a great year for the WPBA.
Kind of sucks, but oh well.

Don't quit your day job ladies!

Hey, it's no biggie, although i'm sure some some people won't see it that way.

It's in the players interests to know these things. (considering that they might be flying out there and spending a lot of money, and for what)

DISCLAIMER: The following comments I am about to make are MY OWN and in NO WAY reflect the feelings of the regional tour that I represent!!

As a player who will be playing in the RTC, I accepted my invite because I am always excited to play in the RTC. Not because I have any interest in playing in the WPBA, but because I really enjoying playing against all the different players. As much as I love how much pool there is here in Texas for women and how much I love my regional tour, it does get old after a while playing the same women tournament after tournament. So, I always look forward to the RTC.

I am fortunate enough that I have a good, stable full-time job that affords me to be able to travel to all these touraments. Yes, airfare and hotel and the entry fee has easily put me over $600. That doesn't even include rental car and food for the entire time. Not to mention anything else I might want to purchase or places I might want to visit while in LA.

I could only imagine this would be very expensive for the struggling pool player. But, its what you have to do if you want to get onto the WPBA. If I was someone who aspired to play on the WPBA, I would seriously have to consider the fact that the WPBA only has 2 stops on the calendar right now. Would it be worth it? I'm sure everyone is thinking about that.

Unfortunately, times are tough right now, and I would hope that the WBPA is doing everything it can to secure more stops for this year. Of course, it doesn't help anyone's confidence in the WPBA right now since their website is down. I know it had me thinking how it would impact the RTC in any way. The check I sent the WPBA with my entry fee and WPBA dues has already been cashed.

Anne's resignation was definitely a surprise to me. My interactions with her at my first WPBA event was more than I could have ever expected. She made sure that I was okay during the entire event and made me feel welcome. Her presence will be sorely missed. In my opinion, she was the definition of efficiency at the events. Good luck to Anne in whatever she decides to do next.

I do wish the new board luck in scheduling additional events and hope this does not impact the WPBA players for this year especially the new tour members. Hopefully, they will release a statement soon to allievate current concerns.

Anne certainly was capable and hard working but not irreplaceable IMHO. I think she was there 3-4 years?

PS_If they could replace Peg and that super businesswoman, Linda Chen, who can't they replace?

Thw WPBA should bring on Mark Griffin & tell the APA if they don't like it, tough s***!

Ditto. The guy knows how to generate money, loves promoting pool and that would be a great thing for the ladies. Would be nice if "pro" pool could actually mean the women play pool for a living & don't need to juggle jobs with their pool careers. I believe Mark could make that happen.

Ok, so I am going to play devil's advocate and I don't really know this Anne - I am sure she is a wonderful person.

But if she was there for 3-4 years, as an outsider, look at where the WPBA was 4 yrs ago to where it is today. The WPBA website is down so I cannot look up the exact stats so I looked at Karen Corrs stats taken from AZBilliards player page.

In 2005, Karen played in 7 WPBA events.
In 2006, Karen played in 7 WPBA events.
In 2007, Karen played in 7 WPBA events.
In 2008, Karen played in 6 WPBA events.
In 2009, Karen played in 6 WPBA events.

Friends in the know tell me that only 1 event has been scheduled for 2010 so far. Is that true? And there might only be 4 events this year.

If that is the case, as hard as Anne was working, she wasn't getting the job done and a change was due. Obviously, the WPBA needs to grow not shrink to be a viable tour.

Ok - all of Anne's friends, fire away.

Anne wore many hats on her job with the WPBA. One of them was to help get venues I think. There are over a half dozen on the board that take the hit for no venues to play at. The WPBA wants too much money from venues in this economy. Casino's are finished staking the tour. They have to think smaller. Johnnyt

No Johnny - they have to think bigger. In a different thread, I was told that at least 50 out of 100 people in this world would know who Jeanette Lee is. I quoted the number at 2 out of 100. If the general concensus is that the 50 out of 100 people is correct, which would be amazing, then people such as Jeanette need to get out and help promote the WPBA. This is the institution that gave her the notoriety that she makes her comfortable living off of today. If not Jeanette, then someone else who is a WPBA top well known player. Maybe everyone in Jasmin's country knows who she is and she can be the top promoter. If Jeanette and Jasmin can show up somewhere for a promotion and bring out 200, 500, or 1000 people - surely they can do the same for a WPBA event. This would prove to the venues that it is worthwhile for them to hold a WPBA event, charge admission and make the extras (either in a casino or elsewhere).

No offense to Anne, but until today, I had never heard of her. But I can let you know that if Jeanette Lee picks up the phone and calls a venue or a casino, it would be like EF Hutton calling. Or at least this is what I am told about her overall popularity among the American public.

Lee is a big name, however I'd say she's more 'Andre Iguadala' famous than 'Lebron James' famous. If she had that type of clout, she should just start her own tour up and make even more money. That's the american way.
