WPBL - Bonus Ball Statement

WPBL STATEMENT

LAS VEGAS (May 31, 2013)

The World Professional Billiard League’s live on-site production has been a success. However, our live stream has been met with various difficulties beyond our control. As a result, the WPBL staff has concluded not to air additional matches this weekend.

The WPBL’s season will continue as scheduled, and all live matches will be hosted on-site at the WPBL Arena. Those in the Las Vegas area are welcome to attend these matches for free. All matches from the league’s opening weekend will be recorded and uploaded to www.WPBLtv.com for fans to view at a later date. As a gesture of appreciation to our fans for their continued support during this time, week two of the season will also be aired live online for free.

We want to thank the billiard community and fans who have come from all corners of the world including Indonesia, Australia, Switzerland and many more for their interest in the sport of Bonus Ball. For years, we have been working tirelessly to assure that all aspects of the WPBL represent the best of the sport. We are dedicated to creating a top quality production just as we have built a state of the art facility to host this historic league and we appreciate your patience during this time.

'The live on-site production has been a success'

What are they getting at? The Players showed up and managed to play on a table that didn't disintegrate in front of 13 other players, friends, relatives and 2 fans that got in free? Is this the accomplishment? Their best bet is to try to get a few more fans and then mug them in the parking lot.

The number one thing that shows they are clueless imo are the 3 &7/8" pockets, followed by the T-shirt Uniforms which dont even fit right. I hope whoever decided those was also in charge of the Arena Construction because if there are 2 high level brainiacs plus the broadcast guy, well............................

I just find it very unprofessional that they do all the work on the website, but they post all of their apologies and explanations on Facebook. You would think there would be the same announcement on the front page of the main website.
 
i dont get it... aprom. 30 threads about this new game.... i just watched a match on youtube to get an idea of the game.... imho the wonderfull game of pool is being raped! the players look like some nhl fans in a bar and the ball set.... horrible... pool was once a gentleman sport, this is circus!
and why do they call it the world bla bla... outside the US no1 cares for it.... and im pretty sure no1 ever will...

the budget should have been invested into 8 ball, the most common pool game for amateurs... but this made me cry :frown:

just my opinion... if you like it....

"Technical difficulties interrupted the live stream when the server became overloaded with fans trying to view the match. All issues have been rectified and tonight’s match will be broadcast as scheduled at 6pm PT. As a show of gratitude to our fans for their support, we are offering the remainder of this weekend’s matches for free".

This is all I found. Not the same as on Facebook.

I look at this as if it were a new restaurant opening in my neighborhood. Often it's best to let it evolve and be exposed to society for awhile before expectations can be met. This is NOT another Micky D's opening up, this is a newborn, hang in there Larry....tho I know U will, as you've put up with the ********waves for quite some time, hopefully the NON pool playing community will LOVE it, they have the fund$. Once the money and potential rise, all the nansaying, negative/nitty pool detectives will disappear, which I wish they would Anyway. But they, by their actions, make the good people in life even more noticeable and easier to find.

Not here to waste my time and energy arguing with people on the forums, will pass along info when I can. It is on the front page so just look for it and I am sure more info will be on the front page sometime today about what happened with last nights match. We had an issue once again with the new server which we upgraded after the first nights problem, it was fine all day until traffic reached us.

Ustream was a last minute last resort thing just for you fans online so it was not set up properly hence the low stream quality and other problems with it. It was decided after the trouble we had that we would work out the problems which were beyond our control over the next few days and everything that is being recorded will be released for you all to watch FREE soon and next weeks matches for all 4 days will be FREE.

You can look at Nathan's post on here for more information too which explains things. That saying about anything that can go wrong will go wrong is so true and sometimes it can be your own doing and sometimes you just get a bad roll.

There are many people that are responsible for many projects every day and if they told their boss that anything can go wrong and will go wrong they would be unemployed. Its always someones responsibility to make sure that things don't go wrong. That is why you plan things, that is why you test things and retest things and that you go over everything that can possibly happen. You cant tell me that this is the first time you thought that you might have a problem with high traffic. That should have been one of the first things that came up so if thats the case why wasn't it tested somehow? Why is your season 6 months late and you are coming up with problems that should have been thought of 6 months prior to going live. Lack of planning and this type of lack of control are major red flags when it comes to how an operation is managed, you can twist this all you want but anyone with any sense at all can see right through everything. Instead of blowing a big smoke screen you should be taking responsibility for it and more importantly making it right. Saying the weekend is free then trying to get it on Ustream isnt making it right, its trying to divert the problem. Then realizing you cant even do that and saying well its great live isnt fixing the problem. You can't have a finished product if the only way to see it is go be in studio in Las Vegas, NV. I haven't said much at all about this game at all leading up to the debut but after trying to watch 2 days of it and seeing the managements response to it I feel like its going to be a waste of my time trying to watch it at all. I am not going to waste any more of my time until you prove you have things right and are ready and even then you will have a long ways to win me over after what I have seen leading up to this point.

I think it's closer to a Broadway play in which the curtain rose over an hour late and Act I wasn't very good. Nonetheless, many of us on the forum, myself included, are not leaving the theater. We'll stay the course and watch Act II.

Still, at least for me, the "reasons beyond our control" excuse is wearing thin, and at some point, the WPBL's rhetoric will need to move in the direction of statements like "the quality of the product is our responsibility and nobody else's, we regret the problems that our viewers are having, and these are the steps we are taking to fix things."

It is time for the WPBL management team to hold itself accountable for the state of its product.

living expenses, Hell No, Why?, they are doing a job for a wage like everyone else. Just because it didn't look good on the internet doesn't mean they didn't play. They play they get paid, HOPEFULLY
