Ok,

Here's the "problem":
I've bought almost 2 years ago a Brunswick Goldcrown III with ball return.

Playing the GC for the past 2 years, I did not really noticed that the cushions were in bad condition till I recently went to a poolhall and played on a table with artemis cushions. Wow!!!

So, I've discovered the rails of the GC are dead.
I asked for some prices and found out that to replace the old cushions into Artemis would cost me a lot of money.

Now, I'm taking in consideration to replace the Brunswick and having an upgrade for either a Sam Ksteel II or a Gabrïëls Signature pro.

I know that many of you may think the Gabriëls is the table to go for but I like the stunning looks of the Ksteel more.
Both Tables are in new condition en technically almost identical.

I can buy both the tables for the same price. (2000 euro /2,632.19 USD + GC III)

Can somebody tell me why I should choose the Gabriëls above the Sam and vice versa?

I believe I would get 2 more prices on the work to bring the GC up to speed, although both the other table sound OK but no bargain. Remember you will at least need to pay for moving and set-up. Johnnyt

The price I pay (2,632.19 USD) would be all costs included.
- break down and take back the goldcrown
- setting up the Sam or Gabriëls including new Simonis 860 cloth
- including a 9ft pro table light

Note that both tables are in new condition.

Maybe it's not a bargain but it sure is a nice deal.

I didn't notice you were out of the US. ere we can get nice used GC's for $750-$1200 all day long. Moving, set-up, rubber if needed would still come in under $2000 and you have a GC. I have to admit with the light in the deal it make the price per table better. Johnnyt
 
I have played on both.
I agree, the Kim has a classic look...but the Gabriels plays better.
 
There is no question that the Gabriels plays much better than the Kim Steel. You're getting a good price. 12 years ago I bought a Gabriels Signature Pro 9' table new, for $4000, and that didn't include transportation or set up. Of course you're in Belgium, and this was in Vegas at the trade show.

Well, if the 2600 is easy to spend, get the new condition table.

the artemis cushions require major work to install, but you can get cushions that will fit on your brunswick without major work,,, you need k-55 profile and suggest the Diamond Black ones. I believe they are actually pretty cheap.
 
And why is the Gabriëls so much better if I may ask?
Did you ever played the new SamKsteel II already?

I have much experience with the Sam and it really is a very good but slightly tough table to play.

I was told that the Gabriël uses mdf wood for the skirts.

Playing my Goldcrown now for almost 2 years I can assure you that playing a KimSteel you have to stay very focused for every single shot or the pockets will not accept the bal.

For the Gabriëls, I don't know nothing about it since I've never played one.
 
I'm not a table mechanic, but I have a few comments.

A couple points of clarification...

1. Are the people in this thread talking about the Kim Steel tables that were availbale in the USA in the 1990's? And is the OP (Dubois) "Sam KSteel II" the same table? I don't know the answer, but if they are indeed differnt tables, that would be very relevant.

2. To the OP, are you sure you are not missing something in the prices? $2600 USD to remove a GC3, and install a brand new commercial quality table, and a light, seems almost too good to be true. Even considering you are trading in the GC, that must be at least 20 years old.

3. As another poster mentioned, you don't need to put Artemis cushions on your GC. The GC3 models, specifically, are known for having the worst cushions, that would become dead after a few years. This was not as common on older or newer GC tables. So you can replace the cushions with new Super Speed cushions from Brunswick that are made for that table, or from another company with the same shape, and you will have a table that plays the way any new GC table will. Some of the players and mechanics on this forum will insist that you need to spend 1500 USD to cut off the wood rails on a GC and install Artemis cushions to make it play right. But there are tons of us who feel a factory designed GC (as long as the rubber is not defective) plays absolutely perfectly.

My experience is with the older Kim Steel tables that were brought into the US around early 1990's.

The rails were made of some naterial (also metallic) if I remember.

They really hurt their reputation (with me) on the funky bar tables they made.
The rails hiinged and they did not attach very soldily.

I was a mechanic years ago abut have not worked on the Gabriels - but I do believe they have some MDF.

Howere, MDF is not all bad - it is much more consistent in thickness so the slate liners will be the same thickness - not so sometimes with wood.
Depends how the cloth is attached.

Either way, all of these tables will be more than sufficient for home use.

Do what you feel most confortable with.

@ iusedtoberich:I know the deal I have is a great deal but I think it's not so easy today for a dealer to sell a pooltable for home use when it's overpriced to much.

I've definitely made up my mind and I wil buy the Sam.
Mainly because of its looks and also because it's a new redesigned model from 2010.
The Gabriëls signatures are on the marked for a decade now so I don't think the new Sam Ksteel2 is the lesser table.

When my table is installed, I wil post some pictures.
