yet another coring & gluing question

I agree and anybody who doesn't think it's strong enough is welcome to try and dislodge one of my cores with a hammer. It's not going to move.

Tony you do not want to make that bet with me and my hammer......you may win the bet but sadly your core and its surroundings will be toothpicks lol.:p:thumbup:

For what it is worth, at my work, they put glue on both surfaces, then have a fine spray mist bottle of chlorine free water, and give a light spray of water straight onto the glue. Then quickly assemble. No atempt is made to dampen the surface prior to applying glue.

i wet/dampened a paper towel, wiped on core ,
then squirted glue onto core.
the glue was thick, kinda like cold maple syrup,
best description i can think of
much much thicker than the 20 minute epoxy i normally use

This was the problem, you put moisture on the dowel, then put the glue on the dowel. The moisture started the curing process/expanding process before you even put it in the hole. The proper method has been described above already, so I won't repeat it. From you earlier post, the clearences were fine, you just had a premature expanding of your dowel before inserting it into the hole:eek:
That's ok, you can just cutoff the protuding dowel and rebore the forearm.

no, they werent fine.
the .003" error of my calipers was just enough to screw it up.
brentster > getting new calipers soon

well said.slow setting epoxy is the nuts, way stronger and harder than poly.i realize that poly will work and is strong enough, but why skimp?
how is that skimping?
it's not like the gorilla glue is cheaper
i didnt want this to turn into another typical debate about glues,
there's been dozens of those already
the two issues/mistakes were wetting the dowel and my fkd up calipers
if i skimped, it was buying the calipers the day i broke mine
needed new ones fast, so i ran to rocklers

Has your dog been coming to Florida by any chance????????

DADADADADA......................

i guess i meant initial out of pocket is much greater for the good epoxy.certainly didn't want to start a glue debate, like you said it has been covered.i just think if you have been using the good epoxy you will be happier staying with it.

Hey brent tell him to try what my dumba$$ neighbor did, he's still in jail. The wild pack in the area was turning over his cans he thought so he laid down a 4 by 8 sheet of steel and set a metal can on 4 corncobs and ran a extension cord out there and hooked 1 wire to the can and 1 to the sheet metal. The first night he plugged it up a next door police officer let his German Shepard K nine partner out for a run and he saw his dog put his paws on the can lid and get electrocuted. The can was baited with fresh meat and it is illegal to set any trap for human or animal trapping which is lethal in NC, so his defense was he thought 110 V would just knock the animals out. Damn lucky no kids got there first--Leonard

Sounds like an excellent opportunity for a glue test to me. The bottom of one garbage can with epoxy, the other with gorrilla glue. If both hold up well, no more turned over cans. What's not to like! It's a win-win.

Next time your neighbor bangs on your door, answer it naked. Open the door like everything is fine. Throw in the occasional scratch of the "main event" and he'll never come to your door again. Since its your property and he came by his own free will all he can do is be disgusted, or aroused but I won't go there. Good luck!
