If someone wants to put up $20,000---I'll put up $10,000 and bet that Grady comes back.
As a matter of fact, I will lay 2 to 1 that he does come back. He is just bitter and wants these people to beg him to come back. They will, he will come back. I just want to make some easy money on it.

Does It Count If He Comes Back Using Randi's (his wife's) Name ?

I would like nothing more than to hear some of those stories. Much of this kind of pool data can only be gleaned from those who were there via word of mouth or, in this instance, via fingers on the forum. :p

Great post, one which I hope is followed through on. :)

What a GREAT AVATAR!!!!!:D ;) LOL

You guys win, I have way too good a life to argue with nitwits. Goodbye. Please, no private messages. I won't look at them or answer.

Duuuh!

Nobody choosing to bet on the option that any poster "doesn't ever come back" could collect their winnings until god forbid, the poster concerned passes away, ceases to be, shuffles off this mortal coil........becomes a late parrot.

On the other hand, with a bet of say the 10k mentioned earlier it is quite likely the poster could be persuaded to pop in next week and say for example "Hi Folks" for the purpose of someone collecting 10k. Guessing that the fee for that appearance might be around 5k;) :)

The Whole picture

do you guys see the whole picture when you keep yourselves in the little nitty gritty details all the time, who's right, who's wrong, who gives a f___?

I have been playing 46 years, and I have heard Grady's name tossed around all of my playing life. Jay is right, Grady is a legend in his own right, and deserves to be respected in the Pool world. But, the Pool world, as cruel as it is sometimes, you are only as good as your last game.

Grady has a world of knowledge, probably a whole lot more, than some come lately administrators of so-called Pool organizations that enjoy being the ones in charge yet they don't even accomplish their own goals, short term or long term, and give nothing but excuses when confronted. Nothing ever gets resolved unless it is confronted and held accountable for.

I don't hold a high opinion of the UPA, and my past dealings with Frank Alvarez left a very bitter taste in my mouth. He seems to enjoy being important in his own mind, and I would be willing to bet a large sum of money that I could give him a game on the table.

If the Pool world is all Rose colored glasses, why are there so many threads started about making it better and more professional?

Grady has his right to his opinion, whether you agree or disagree with it, and considering his involvement and knowledge of Pool, it does carry weight with me. A World Championship by invitation alone is a subjective joke. Let's see, I could be a World Champion if I got to pick my competition.

If noone takes the time to point out the inequities or unfairness that exists in the Pool world, how is it ever to become better???

To hit you on a local level, what about unfair handicapping systems?

I, for one, hope Grady comes back, because we will be more with him, than without him.

I'm going back on my word

Okay okay, I finally got sucked into this thread and I said I wasn't going to do it. Like I said before Grady and I have had our ups and downs, but we are fine now, so that's good enough for me.

Grady is and always has been an emotional guy, who wears his heart on his sleeve. If he loves you, he loves you and if he hates you, look out! That's Grady. I've ALWAYS enjoyed seeing Grady in action, because he will be doing some talking. To his opponent and the crowd. He can be hilarious at times, funnier than anything you ever read in this forum. I know, I've seen him crack up a room full of hard core gamblers.

That's the Grady I miss, much more so than sullen E.S. I would LOVE to see him come back on here and forget about all this nonsense with invites. That tournament is OVER! I want to hear his stories about the games he made in L.A. and Colorado Springs and everywhere else. I mean the guy did gamble with all the greatest poolplayers of the last 40 years. A lot more than me, more even than fearless Freddie.

Grady is a living encyclopedia on the great players, more so because he played them, not sweated them like I did. No one on here besides Billy could tell us more about how Ronnie in his prime compared with Efren. Or how good Greg Stevens played or Buddy for the cash. Or Shorty, or Red, or anyone else for that matter. I'd love to hear his opinion on the all time greats and why. I want to argue with him about Richie Florence vs. Bernie Schwartz etc etc.

More than being a being a famous One Pocket legend, Grady is a true legend of the road. His road stories could probably fill ten books. EVERY pool player from the last three to four decades knew who Grady was, and if they gambled, he gave them action.

I don't know why that Grady hasn't showed up on here. He's far more interesting than the guy I see arguing with other promoters. Let it go and come back and let's shoot the shit. For starters, I want to know if you played Hopkins in the 80's. You two were the best before Efren emerged. I know you played Ronnie several times.

I swore I wouldnt take up for whatshisname anymore, but Jay's post was so sympathetic and on target, I couldnt help myself. I usually love to take an opposing stance against brother Jay's ramblings, but I'm forced to defer to him in this instance. I agree and feel the same way as Jay, and that's all I'm going to say.

Who loses? Help Grady please

Grady from your posts I feel you have other issues.
You just are opening a first class room, asking the top players to attend events and come to your place, then you leave the free and best place to publicize these events?
You are obsessed with being snubbed from a tournament and can't leave it , maybe this will help you. You won and lost big matches before ,and you did not let past matches have anything to do with the next game, match, tournament remember how you did this ?

Grady, please talk to people you can trust and follow their advice.
Posters leave him alone, this is a self destructing good guy who is not acting rationally!
Grady you are a former world great and we love you! Hang in there.

Maybe you are trying to do too much right now?

Friends of Grady please check on him he sounds to have the blues(depression)! This is dangerous.

Jay..

Jay...That was one great post...Hopefully Grady can get over it and move on...I for one think he can..And when he does he will come back and enrichen us with some of his history as a player and promoter..We all have things in life that just dont go our way...My wife always tells me "Life aint fair"..So i make the best out of the situation and move on...Don

Very well said Scott. Grady has earned the right to be given some lee-way with his knowlegeable opinions. We will all be losing a great source of history and expertise for our favorite game.:(

Don't let a few knotheads run you away Grady.

We really dont know what Grady is going through right now. His personal problems that he is facing might be overwhelming. I know a couple of months back I lost someone very close to me. My sister to cancer. I stopped posting or even coming to the pool hall for at least 5 months. Before that I was playing 6 hours a day. I guess clinically you can say I was depressed.
I'm not saying Grady is going through that but one thing I learned is the mind is a complex thing. Something can just set you off that you been suppressing for a while and sometime it just breaks down. People sometimes self medicate with booze, drugs, caffeine, tobacco, gambling, etc. We all know someone like that. I just didnt want to go out of the house. I was so angry to lose someone so valuable to me and someone too young before her time. Maybe JAM is going through some rough times of her own. Pressure's from her new job. I know it would effect me if I had to be up at the crack of dawn get in a business suit and perform 110%.
Lets let Grady do his own thing.Get healthy spiritually, health wise and financially as well. Be with friends who support him, talk with someone who can understand the things he has gone through (other pros), spend time with his partner in life Randi, write his books, develop his pool room, and anything else that keeps him well.
Then welcome him back anytime he is ready to share with us his thoughts and experience. Show him our love and respect.

My teeth. It's my friggin' teeth. My teeth are killing me, and I'm dreading going to the dentist, after taking a 2-year hiatus. My nickname at the dentist office is "Pockets." Kind of a neat pool name, too, wouldn't you say!? :p

That's a piece of cake, been there, done that, and looking forward to it. Congress is gearing up for an election year and must eliminate old business, which generates mega pages. That's like about 20 different Johnston City tournaments all happening simultaneously for me. If I'm lucky, I may make enough money to take care of my teeth! :o :( :p ;) :D

Naw, though he does have that Hennessee "look" in his eyes, as well as wearing Hennessee's trademark, a baseball cap. ;)

I do see the similarity in that snapshot. :)

The portly gentleman on the left is Gypsy from the Big Apple (good bar table player with a powerful break). In the middle is Frankie from Joysey (a player in his own right who'd rather be shooting dice than shooting pool), and on the right is a feeling-no-pain Earthquake who's all smiles for the camera as long as he's holding onto a cup of happy juice! :D

I can't stand it!!! I've been around Grady a lot in person and have seen his posts' here, other forums and newsgroups for years. Face it, Grady's recent rants are nothing new, he's been going off, pissing and moaning for as long as I can remember. Both in print and in person..... Everyone is aware of his recent discretions and they are nothing new, check the archives here or do a google forum search for some of his post at RSB. He is just plain bitter.... Don't get me wrong, I have learned a ton from Grady in his older instructional tapes and in person at several clinics I've seen him do. Plus, he is one of the top 3 or 4 poolroom storytellers I have ever been around. That's what he is still GREAT at, teaching and storytelling... But he doesn't play world class pool anymore and that is where the bitterness comes in! He was a world class player and somewhat dominating in the 70's and 80's but face it, he's 20 years beyond that. That's whay I have so much respect for Buddy Hall, Cardone, McCready and the like. They have accepted that the best has passed, realize that they are no longer capable of dominating as they once did, and don't expect to be invited to so-called "world championship" events. Grady just can't let go.... Did Randy or whoever invite a few players that play short of Grady's current speed? Probably so.... But hey, it's their show! I didn't see them invite a couple of really good straight pool players like JR Gay or Tom Karabatsos, either of which would rob Grady playing today, but you will never in life hear either of them ***** because they are class acts. In the 15 years I have been around I have seen Grady match up 20+ times and have only seen him book 1 winner and he is the sorest loser I have ever seen. He is an absolute perfect gentleman to talk to and to match up with but he acts like an absolute child when he loses. People always want to talk about Earl going off when Grady is just as bad, maybe worse, than Earl. I'm sure I will get flamed for my opinion but it's the plain truth that everyone here should know and come to realize...............
