I have a friend, from Asheville, that just called me to tell me about his find. He just bought a Tad with work in the buttsleeve, two shafts, A four point, four veneer Josswest with ivory in the buttsleeve for $75 a piece at a pawn shop. He said he felt dirty after paying the bill. Couldn't wait to call me. That's just plain sick.

same thing happened to a friend of mine about 20 years ago, his neighbor knew he was a pool player and someone had a Leather George case and a Joss as I remember. I do remember he paid the guy $100 and sold everything for $900 in about a week, I remember the case and $800 profit I just cant rember the cue, but he said he almost didnt answere the door because he was asleep and was pissed someone was knocking on the door. That was the easiest score ever.

I got a satin finish Southwest for 40.00 in OKC at a pawn shop about ten years ago.

I bought a Gandy "Big G" from a private party about ten years ago. They had bought the house it was in and wanted to get it out of the dining room. I paid them $500 for the table. They threw in the wall rack and cues, including one Ginacue, which I later sold for $1,500. I only got $1,000 for the Gandy.

I picked up a Josswest for $150 about 4 months ago.

You are correct. I don't believe this. I might be convinced if you could provide some nice clear pictures. We would love to see it.

Me too...although I don't make it in to many pawn shops these days...too busy! LOL The best deal I ever heard of was a woman who found a Gus Szamboti for $50. This was about 10-15 yrs ago, and it worth $1500 then! Probably worth $8-$10K now.

Randyg, while traversing the country doing the Texas Express tour in the 80's, used to stop at EVERY pawn shop in every town they went through, looking for old Palmers. He bought every cue even near nice, and at one time had probably the largest collection in the country...over 1100 Palmer cues! I know he made BANK when he sold them off, a few at the time over the years. Several posters here have purchased some of these cues.

I just hope you all have made every attempt possible to find the real owners from who these great deals were stolen.

I have a true story similar to Jays. I bought an older Macon Billards table about 10 or so years ago. The table was in very nice shape and I thought the guy was out of line at $2500.00 for the table. That was until he brought out two old box cases and set them on the table. He said, here ya go, these go with the table. I opened the boxes to find VERY, VERY early Gina's in the boxes !! Then he brought out a handful of house cues with two bridges. Turns out that the house cues were a set also made by Ernie for this guy. I took them to Ernie and he remembered making for them for this guy. I ended up selling the cues for $4000.00. Wish I still had them today, or at least took pics...

Live and learn!!

Russ......

ps - I would also like to see some pics of your buddy's pawn shop find!!

About 10 years ago, my uncle and i were cleaning out this old house. the man that lived in it had no family and my uncle bought the land and the house. there was and old pool table in it and my uncle said that i could have it. it had the ball return not drop pockets. the balls kept getting hung up and we could not figure out why. i reach my hand down in it and there was a roll of 100's, 50's, 20's, right around $6000. I had a fit, told my uncle about it, and he said congrats and let me take the money

I'm happy for your friend. It's a cue fantasy come true. Unfortunately, I haven't hit the cue jackpot yet, just the reverse. My wife likes to visit second-hand shops, so I tag along and look for cues. Recently, at our local Good Will Store, I noticed an old beat up and chipped cue in a special area behind glass. It had a black butt with a Playboy logo. They wanted a hundred dollars for it. I told the cashier that you could buy that cue new for $25. She replied that she had nothing to do with pricing. Too bad. I might have bought it for $2 and donated it to the game room here at the old fogies trailor park. :)
