Your shooting music?

back to the beginning

I'll listen to 50's and 60's country or older, mo-town and rock and roll into the early seventies. Some folk all the way to hard rock, the same music that I was listening to when I cut my pool teeth. Otis and Marvin Gaye mixed in with buckle polishing music was pretty typical on the juke box way back when. Then I was listening to everything from folk to Zeppelin and Hendrix along with the country. Of course I agree that the best music of all is just the click of the balls and the slap of a ball hitting the back of a leather pocket cleanly.

Pool Player Music

Last night at Table Steaks the satelite raidio played a set by gutar player Joe Satriani.
May have been a little Stevie Vie in there.
Someone yelled out "don't these guys ever sing".

I prefer classic rock, Motown, or blues.

Weather you use an Mp3 or just the juke box what is the music that gets you in your rhythm? For me I prefer some good guitar music, maybe Stevie Ray Vaughn. Or just somethin' rockin', like the first Green Day cd from back in the day. So what does it for you?

Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Stevie Ray, BB King, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Goshorn Brothers, Eric Clapton, Kelley Richey, ZZ Top, Lonnie Mack and lots more of the same genre .... Can't fade any C"RAP" or Hip Hop but that's about the only music that sends me balistic.

No music does it for me. Or in lieu of that anything as long as it isn't too damn loud which it always is blaring out of some jukebox. When I listen to music I listen to music, when I play pool I don't want the distraction.

No music for me, there are enough voice's in my head for a chorus.

Lol see the music for me stops the voices in my head. If I'm singin along in my head then I can play loose and free. Thinkin about your shot is good, TOO MUCH thinking about your shot is not, at least not for me.

tunes

At home when I practice alot of jazz and classic rock. Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles would have to be my favorite.

I like music that makes me happy yet is simple in nature. Therefore, I tend to listen to a lot of AC/DC when I shoot. Much of their music sounds similar so I don't loose a lot between songs. Also, I'm a rythym shooter and AC/DC always has a great rythym.

I remember at the old bar I used to play league at, I always wanted Back in Black or Hells Bells blaring when I was up. It always seemed to relax me and put me in a good mood. Took my mind off the game and I just shot.

When I'm listening to my MP3 player, I typically listen to a lot of upbeat stuff, mainly rock-n-roll or metal. As long as I feel good listening too it and it can distract me from feeling jittery or nervous because I have a tough shot or am down (doesn't happen much), then it's good for me.

I especially like music when I'm practicing because I'm usually alone. It keeps me company and gives me something else to do. That way, I don't get bored as fast.

Metallica, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Sabbath, with a little Ted Nugent for good measure or i throw in some blues with Tommy Castro, Kevin Russell, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Popa Chubby, Albert King, Albert Collins etc...

I remember playing a guy that when he was stuck, would go play "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor on the jukebox in a loop...!!!

He thought it pumped him up, so it usually did. Plus his opponents would get so annoyed with him and the song, it'd likely start affecting their play. It was really funny to watch, unless you were his opponent! LOL!

For a short time, I tried practicing with Frank Sinatra playing on my iPod, trying to develop my routine rhythm to sync with the music. I like the "Chairman" and all, but it got to be too much after a while and I stopped.

I like to think the above theory is sound, but have not proven that it increases competitive performance...

Great topic..................

I find Bbues or jazz really gets me relaxed and focused.

I went through a big kick once where I was trying to find the song that matched my best playing rhythm.

I thought that if I could find that Perfect Playing Rhythm Song, when I wanted to pump myself up and get into a smooth playing rhythm I could just grab that song and get it stuck in my head on purpose, then play with the beat.

I did find the song, but it didn't really work. It just felt awkward, and it's really hard to put a song that you like into your head for very long. Song you hate? Easy- stuck for days. But Karma Chameleon and For The Longest Time are NOT good pool playing songs.

Loud, when I am in a zone:
Almost anything by ZZ Top, but especially LaGrange. (ahawh hawh hawh ...)
AC/DC
Guns and Roses

Soft, when I am trying to think:
Instrumental blues.
Instrumental 50's-60's jazz, like Dave Brubeck.

Practice music

Depending on my mood I use one of these playlists on my iPod:

Chill: Radiohead, Muse, Beatles, Black Crowes, Coldplay, Bowie... etc.
Thrill: Anthrax, Pantera, Metallica, Clutch, Megadeth, Tool, NIN... etc.
Kill: Slipknot, Machine Head, Sepultura, Hatebreed, Superjoint Ritual, Norma Jean... etc.

personally

Its just about everything genre except jazz/country. It's too slow for my internal clock to match up with. I have about 900 songs on my ipod, and its normally thrown in my pocket with random hit.

I have a good bit of rap, that's generally talking about getting paid or getting lucky cuz thats about the only way i win

Other times it can range from bands like tool staind avenged sevenfold clarence carter

But my all time song that I MUST play before I ever gamble is Smooth criminal by Alien Ant Farm.

really the whole music increasing play versus decreasing is all in how your mind relates things. I've always been better at anything I do when I have some background noise/ a distraction so for me when I play and catch gear i generally am focusing on the music and not overthinking the shots. It's weird, you'd think the opposite would be true but i've found if I focus on the table and the game tooo much i end up hurting myself by getting down on myself over mistakes, so now i just take a deep breath then sing whatevers jamming. I'd really love to see a breakdown of those two stats. People who play with music and people who dont and their logic/ reasoning behind why they play that way.

Mine is trance music, dance club music

Vincent de Moor,Thrillseekers,Andy Blueman etc.

Underground metal: Xasthur,Opera IX,Judas Iscariot etc.
