I have 2 theories:
#1 There should be no pool playing permitted without music (and ALL music played in pool halls should be approved by me).
#2 Pool proficiency is DEFINITELY enhanced by music that is both very familiar to the player (so the rhythm of the music enhances his "flow"), and that has pleasant memories (to inspire comfort, and take the mind off potential negative stressors). In my case it is the rock music we loved in college in the early 70's, or high school in the '60's...geez, put on anything by Jethro Tull and my game improves by at least a ball or two...I'm sure of it...not kidding...
I spent over a year studying my music sources so I could have EVERY good song ever made (as decided by me) on my Ipod. The vast majority of the songs each has some special memory (played in a rock and roll band for 40 years) - it is a competitive advantage for me when I use this list in my weekly games with a top pro.
Do not visit Betmore's Basement if you don't want to listen to my music (though I will occasionally let visitors "bring their own" if I'm in a good mood). I still have a couple of Government Mule CD's that Justin Collett left in my basement several years ago, and I'm quite worried he is holding it against me (I keep forgetting to take them down to DCC...in a scrape with JC you should strongly consider not betting on me...).
